In an e-mail to its customers today, the team at TekTrak (an app we reviewed back in August) officially announced that the service has shut down and that users will no longer be able to utilize its features. In the heartfelt message the team explains that, as with many startup ventures, it has come time for the service to shutter its windows and call it quits.

TekTrak's official website has also been updated to reflect the end of the service.

Dear TekTrak Customers,
We are sad to announce that the TekTrak service has shut down, and you will no longer be able to use its features.
In the past 18 months, the TekTrak team has worked very hard to bring you a great product with the best user experience. We know we helped many of you, and your great feedback has certainly helped along the way.
As it often happens in the start-up world, the company had to shut down, and we hope you understand.
For Android users, you can remove TekTrak as follows:
Please go to your device's Settings->Location and security->Select device administrator and make sure that the checkbox next to TekTrak is unchecked.
Then you can remove TekTrak the regular way.
If you have MultiLock installed on your phone, the unlock code is 8358725.
We want to thank you for being part of this journey, and hope we helped you a little bit, too.
So long and goodbye,
The TekTrak Team

It's always a bit sad to see an app like TekTrak shut down but, as the team's e-mail explains, the service has helped many users keep their phones secure over the past year and a half, and that's what's important.
