Oh. My. God. Madfinger games - the same game dev firm that brought us Shadowgun - just announced a new game for Tegra 3 devices called Dead Trigger, and it looks amazing.

Awesome graphics? Check. First-person shooter action? Check. ZOMBIES? Check. This game has it all!

It has all the features that you would expect from Madfinger:

  • Stunning graphics with advanced lighting and post-process effects
  • Full 3D characters and environments with an unprecedented level of detail
  • High quality 3D audio and a lively music soundtrack
  • Character animations recorded using high-end motion capture
  • Intuitive controls
  • Spectacular ragdoll effects

Unfortunately, there's no word as to when the games is expected to release, only that it'll be hitting the Tegra Zone "soon."

And soon can't come soon enough.

Looks a bit like Left 4 Dead/2. Can't wait, should be awesome! Wish there was First Person version of Shadowgun.

  • TheFirstUniverseKing

Looks like it'd become repetitive at an even faster rate than Shadowgun, because I didn't see much variety in gameplay.

Looks great! For both all platforms, but I definitely need to get myself a Tegra device!

Just another reason to get the Nexus tablet! Though I don't like how the comparison is "Android vs Tegra 3"... I'm pretty sure the Tegra 3 version is Android!

"Android vs Tegra 3"? Ugh. I feel sick.

I'm pretty sure some Android phones with different SOCs (Snapdragon One X, Exynos SGSIII) are more than capable of running the version of the game with prettier graphics. But when NVIDIA has game developers by the balls... :<

I've said it before (http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/05/16/sonic-the-hedgehog-4-episode-ii-review-a-really-great-game-if-you-have-a-controller-and-some-patience/#comment-530946890), and I'll say it again: Tegra is fragmenting Android. And not for technical reasons either; it's all about the money.

The Exynos chip in the SGS3 still uses Mali-400 MP, so it would still be weaker than the Tegra 3.

What I'm guessing is that the Tegra 3 version of the game uses custom shaders (like some PC OpenGL games that use OpenGL Extensions for D3D-like effects) that the Mali-400 MP and Adreno 225's can't render properly.

But yeah, it's obviously all about the money. However I would not go doubting the Tegra 3's technical specs compared to it's current competition.

mali-400 MP running at 400mhz (GS3) rapes tegra 3 GPU day in and out. it's the fastest phone GPU right now. pay a visit to anandtech, they have some benchmarks

This I can agree to! Had an TfT202 which lagged occasionally while playing gtaIII, browsing and even playing shadowgun.
Now I have  SGS3 which plays GTA3 smoothly, scrolling in the browser is smooth and playing the non tegra 3 version of shadowgun while playing music and a hd video using popup play is smooth!
The whole tegra 3 vs rest of the SoC is just bullshit and game developers shouldn't fall for it. Expecially when the SGS3 has over 9 million pre orders and a lot of android phones is the SGS2.

I love how people fight over which GPU is more powerful as if it matters anymore. No piece of software written for Android has come close to tapping the full potential of these processors. If your Tegra phone lags on the homescreen it's not because the processor isn't capable, it's because the software it's married to was poorly written for it.
The reason why Samsung's phones seem generally smoother is because Samsung make their own chips and know how to code their software better for it. Not because it scores a couple hundred more points in some synthetic benchmark. Meanwhile, HTC nor Asus make Tegra chips. Asus did have the benefit of working closely with nVidia on the Transformer tablets but otherwise Samsung is about as vertical as it gets with Android and they benefit for it.

        some numbers

GPU Power Nvidia Tegra 3 has a Kal-El GeForce GPU it can produce 7.2 GFLOPS at 300MHz. Samsung Exynos 4412 has a Mali-400 GPU, Exynos 4210 also powered by Mali-400 GPU, it can produce 10.8 GFLOPS at 300MHz. my guess Exynos 4412’s GPU will clocked at 400MHz means it will produce 14.4 GFLOPS of power. At “GPU Power” category Exynos 4412 wins easily.

note that "gpu power" does not equal performance. for that you see benchmarks

am i the only one who keeps being amazed by the graphical level that phone games are reaching? needs better stories and more cowbells tho'.

Omg I can't wait. Its about time we got a real zombie game and who else could do it better then madfinger games. Woohoo!!!

  • Himmat Singh

Official word from devs is that it's set to land before June is out.

  • Himmat Singh

Crysis 1 and 2 were both created on Xbox 360. Same hardware/GPU but Crisis 2 blew Crisis 1's graphics off....why? The devs became better at utilizing the tools. Same with Madfinger Games here. They were one of the first to have a Tegra 3 optimized game, and now their second attempt is (way) better. With news that Tegra 3+ only due next year, we're still some time off Tegra 4 some Madfinger's 3rd Tegra 3 optimized flagship will be even better. With the same tools. :)
