htc one x

Your smartphone can be a lot of things. One thing it should not ever be is a hammer. The guy in the video below disagrees with my opinion that the HTC One X is not, in fact, a hammer. As you can see, he has a serious nail problem and, as the saying goes, "When all you have is a nail, all your HTC One Xes look like hammers." Or something like that.

The phone appears to be unharmed, despite being smashed in the face with a nail by a very sadistic Russian Chinese man 151 times. Yes, I counted. Each blow hurt my soul. However, even though this phone survived, you should not ever, ever, ever bludgeon a nail with the sexy screen of an HTC One X.

If, however, you are a crazy person, or a rich person, or a rich, crazy person that has no regard for your One X, and you decide that you must attempt to obliterate a nail with the full extent of your wrath, channeled through your One X like a minimalist Mjölnir, please make sure you do so safely film it for us all to see.

Youtube comments are spot on for a change.

"I wanted this phone...but if it's going to take that much work to hammer a nail in I'm not so sure anymore...."

    "nice potato camera"

    • fixxmyhead

i dont get this "potato camera" joke thing.
      where does it come from?

      • Sameum

It think it's about the quality of the video.

It's a long trite joke to ask, "which potato you recorded that with" to poke fun at the bad video quality.

        • fixxmyhead

i seriously have no idea what even a trite joke is. have never heard that term

          • Sameum

            Trite means
Overused and consequently of little import; lacking originality or freshness.

Stupid SAT words nobody uses... -_-

          • utopianh

trite is in fact not trite.

        • fixxmyhead

cant reply to ur other post but got it amd yea nobody uses those words

          • S Jobs

You just have a poor vocabulary.

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

The potato is a dig at the qualify of the camera and the common fact that Russians eat a ton of potatoes and make everything (read: vodka) out of potatoes too.

  • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Btw, the language is definitely not Russian. It sounds Chinese.

  • Tyler Chappell

lmao, wow, it kinda works! This One X really is the phone that can do everything! :D

  • LordGeek

So .. does this mean that Gorilla Glass actually works !!! LOL

  • Thesmokingandroid

brutal dude, brutal. Now i want to see him do it with the SGS3!

    • Roger Sellers

I read earlier today the S3 was to have Gorilla Glass 2. Maybe the One X does as well.

      • http://twitter.com/rohanXm Rohan Mathur

All variants of the One X have Gorilla Glass 2 as well.

Looks like balsa wood and the hammering sounds added in.  I could hammer a nail into balsa wood with a crumpled piece of tissue paper.

  • Bas

    This is hurting... it's abuse!

  • Keith

I think they're Chinese and speaking some dialect.

The audio quality is pretty bad but I think I can make out a few mandarin words.

Some of the conversation before crazy hammering...

"Good. Its too low. What do you mean too low? Show them your pics? OK good".

I don't know if he's trying to prove a point but wow.. go gorilla glass?! (Still painful to watch)

Someone should try this with an iPhone 4.

    • Bas

      Instant break.

    • Guest

The iPhone 4S uses the same Gorilla Glass.

Remember these are 2 VERY different "tests":
      1.  Flat hit with a nail head.
      2.  Drop the phone from a height... onto the CORNER of the phone.

      • Ammi6543

Im almost certain Apple doesn't use Gorilla Glass anymore. I think they stopped with the iPhone 4 CDMA version or something like that, hence the 4s will not use gorilla glass, but the iPhone 1st Gen did.

he need to be shot for doing that to that phone i would have killed him if i had saw him

    • Lol

jesus christ man it's just a phone lol

  • sgtguthrie

Anyone else notice that as he would stop hitting the nail, the hammering sound would continue?

    I have to call bs!

    • ChristianFletch

MPEG compression (or other compression) can result in audio NOT BEING PERFECTLY SYNCRONIZED with video. So your BS call is BS.

      • bob

lol many n00bs dont know much about video and have only had a comp for a cpl yrs :p

    • Guest

So you are saying he's stopping short and not actually touching the surface with the nail?

Sorry.  It's pretty clear that contact is DEFINITELY being made.

  • fixxmyhead

ok now do it with the middle part of the screen NOT with the corner where its obviously stronger. i slammed my s2 in a drunken rage 2 days ago on the carpet but it was the hard carpet with no padding and nothing happened. battery came off and wouldnt boot up my old rom had to restore from a back up but still functioning.

  • Dark

And watch next week as he uses his One X as an ax!!! Man that was painful to watch, but I have to admit that it is a tough phone. Got to love Gorilla Glass.

  • Noreen

WTF!!!  What would make some one say, "Okay, I'll try it!"???  *I would never do this!*  I didn't know if I should be way pissed off that this kind of smartphone abuse was happening, or if I should be amazed!!!
I'm sorry, this is just wrong to do.  I would leave it to the labs or professionals that test out the patents.

  • Dagmar Schneitz

This is just wrong! Just use a dress shoe or something if you don't have a hammer! Don't use a phone! If the glass breaks, then you have to pay for it. Remember that.

  • E72aD

This is actually how I decide all my smartphones now, the iPhone shattered so now I cant see Apple as a trustable company anymore. Shame..

  • sssgadget

We better report this to the proper authorities!! Like Android Police ;)

Stupid idiot.... I dropped my ATT One X less than a week after I got it.. my screen cracked... and Im still in pain... First of all because of the damage... and second because of the customs delays, I havent been able to get the replacement thru the insurance.

    • Jbowman1018

The glass is far from unbreakable. This just shows how hard to crack it from head on impact and that it is likely fairly resistant to scratches. When it comes to being dropped my guess is the glass flexing is the leading cause of cracks.

  • Lostanddisillusioned

wow.... my one x fell 2ft onto carpet and smashed to corner of the screen

  • Fatdaddy

I think the pointnf the video is to prove how tough the one x is. I think they made their point pretty well.

  • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

Alright, I'm sold, where can I buy this guy's screen protector???

Zagg would flip a nut if phones actually could survive this kind of abuse :)

    • Guest

This phone actually CAN survive this kind of abuse.   Did you watch the video?

  • Andrew

Oh fuck what kind of horror is this!? Thank God I didn't get a heart attack..

  • James Silva

  • Jaintanmay

His license to use awesome phones should be permanently revoked....

    too much heartache to see

  • Guest

But not too many of us real-world users are going to break our phones like that.

Try this real-world test 50 times instead:   Let the phone slip out of your hand and drop onto a common street or sidewalk.

You probably won't be lucking enough to have the glass land flatly on a protruding nail.
