Update 5/31/12: Verizon is pushing out this 4.0.4 update to devices now.

Galaxy Nexus LTE owners, listen up: the day you all have been waiting on is finally coming. Yes, I'm talking about the update to Android 4.0.4.

Verizon just pushed details of the update to the GN's support page, which means that the update is imminent. Aside from .4, the update also brings a handful of enhancements:

Email, Messaging & Data

  • Email messages will display properly when the text size is set to large.
  • When sending a multimedia message to an Outlook email address, the file extension will send, allowing the recipient to successfully open an image.
  • Successfully deleted emails on the device will be deleted from the desktop as well.
  • Successfully send text messages without experiencing network connectivity issues.

Applications

  • When viewing a Calendar reminder or appointment, you will now be able to view the full notes associated with the appointment.
  • A down arrow has been added in the Calendar application that will expand the calendar message body, allowing you to view the entire message.

Device Features

  • Successfully turn on Wi-Fi using the Power Control widget.
  • Updates have been made to prevent the display from freezing or becoming unresponsive.
  • Complete calls without experiencing choppy audio, clicking noises and one-way audio noises.
  • Succesfully access Voicemail and other automated systems without error.

As you may recall, this update actually hit Google's servers last week, but was quickly removed. After all the kerfuffle, though, it's finally time for GN owners on VZW to get what they should've gotten long ago.

We'll make sure to update as soon as the update begins rolling out.

Can't believe how long it took, but it's finally [almost] here. One of
the worst examples of an update to a Nexus device. Wait, nope, the worst.

    • fixxmyhead

its verizon what do u expect

    • http://twitter.com/dynomike666 Mike

yes, Big Red has to "inspect" it for a month to verify it's worthiness.  I really need to get about rooting my phone...

      • Deltaechoe

You are partially right, they have to take 3 months to inspect it once, send it back, inspect it again, find nothing wrong, tell public it doesn't exist for awhile, send it back again, then inspect it one more time, sit on it for a week until iteaks everywhere then finally push it. Your money at work

    • John

artem, what do you think the real reason is that VZW took so long? just back n forth bs?

      • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

I have no idea, but I think it's a combination of a terribly slow testing process and a bunch of bugs that they weren't satisfied with, which created a lot of back-and-forth. They shouldn't have bitten such large chunk and released more incremental updates because after a few months every bug fix likely meant re-testing all of the changes.

feels like maybe vz is doing it to make the "nexus" phones irrelevant with their droid line up...?

  • TheWhiteLotus

I don't care. I'm switching already as soon as I can pay my ETF. I really don't want to continue supporting them now.

  • mikeGsays

Seriously, who would stay on VzW after this summer?  Screwing up updates to a NEXUS device and putting an end to grandfathered unlimited plans?  I'm sure there will be thousands of people ditching Big Red just because they were hanging on to their unlimited plan and couldn't get another after AT&T stopped theirs as well....  AT&T and Sprint stores are gonna be getting hounded shortly by angry Verizon customers, you can be sure of that!

    • http://twitter.com/dynomike666 Mike

Verizon simply has the best coverage in the US, period. Yes, if you live in a decent size city other competitors do just as well (if not better), but Verizon's coverage in the majority of the US is unrivaled.  For those that travel a lot (like myself), this is important.

I will believe it when it's here and I am going to leave Verizon after 20 years...They see me only as a dollar sign and  not a loyal customer!

  • boe_d

All I really really care about is fixing the radio and mic issues.

As far as the raw OS fix - I can't believe and LTE button isn't available like wifi or BT.

Lastly - Verizon quite simply you suck at updates- just get out of the way and let Samsung and Google do what they need to do - your input is not welcome.

    • Scott

      Boe, you're everywhere! :-P

      • boe_d

        Look who is talking!

    • bevardimusg

Amen to that!  I heard a rumor that after this update, VZW is no longer going to be in charge of the updates (therefore, they will roll out in a timely manner).  Any weight to this rumor?  I sure hope so, because 4.0.4 was available back in JANUARY.  This delay was completely unacceptable.

Seriously, Verizon, get the f*** out of the way.

"Should finally start rolling out Soon"

LOL @ Verizon - Said in my best Indigo Montoya voice: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

  • Dmitry Chorine

omg, it only took half a year since last official update ...

  • FrillArtist

Go prepaid and you won't have to put up with this BS. Currently paying $30 at T-Mobile and I've never been happier.

  • Trispopalus

What about signal strengh!!! That'll be it with me

  • anonymous Verizon employee

When i went to work tdy (@ verizon) we finally got the "mandatory information bundle" about the update. Which basically neans its REALLY coning , after we receive these for a specific model that means update will be out within 3 days. So in another words "ABOUT DAMN TIME" and dont feel bad they even kept us employees in the dark , but after a lunch with the beautiful site director (damn i want her bad) i was informed everyone will have update within the week. Just to b sure , used reversed psychology and got a direct answer from her .

  • mduran1023

I just got the update! Looks like it started rolling out.

    • Netkil

Really?!....Nothing yet in Atlanta. Where are you located?

      • mduran1023

        I'm in Phoenix

        • Netkil

  • abentley98

  • Jeremy Cope

My only real complaint about V is this...BS update time frames

  • Kerry

A download notice for the update appeared when I turned on my phone this am in Albquerque, NM, but it did not download after 30 min.  I tapped the on/off button and the phone immediately booted, but without the update.  I have been trying to manually update since with no indication that the update is available OTA.  Kerry Morris

    • Mdub609

If you didn't accept it your esn has been pushed back to the end of the line. You might be able to call and get it pushed but I doubt they will be able to do it.

  • Lsx69

This is reason enough as to why Google should dealing with system updates and not OEMs or carriers, may not always be in favor of Apple but they maintain their OS

  • parsonbrown11

Worst tech buy ever. Is this verizon bulletin even real? Six months later and texts might be reliable and fonts other than normal might be used. This is such a hunk of crap. Anybody who relies on this phone for work is fired, anyone relying on this phone for emergency is dead.

  • parsonbrown11

If it looks like ics is underrepresented on Disqus....try using the ics phone to post....impossible, using iOS here...my gnex can't post here.

    • Jeremy Cope

      Mine can

      • parsonbrown11

        prove it

  • bevardimusg

I'm in Chicago and I'm still waiting (im)patiently for this.  Anybody in the midwest get this yet?  I don't think I could handle it if this article turned out to be ANOTHER rumor...

  • parsonbrown11

Cameron, if you truly have access I think you owe us the skinny on the six month debacle that is gnex.......give us the lowdown. This is the worst tech buy/choice I have ever made.

  • Jdolbear

    Just got the update.

  • Kerry
