Last month, I took a look at just a few basic things you can do with NFC tags and a capable phone. The possibilities of things that you can do with NFC are only limited to your own ingenuity,  and we've teamed up with TagsForDroid to help you get started playing with this amazing and fun technology.

Before we get into the giveaway, though, here's another look at our demo from last month:

Like I said, those are just some of the more basic things that you can do with NFC. When combined with the power of Tasker, it really opens a whole new world of automation.

This giveaway is sponsored by TagsForDroid, a go-to place for all things NFC. They offer both Android-ified and plain white tags for all of your NFC needs, ranging in packs from two tags, up to twenty. Currently, if you buy a ten pack or larger, you'll also score a free NFC keychain, which is perfect for launching on-the-go tasks at the gym, in the car, or anywhere else you may need it.

The contest is now over. Here are the winners, selected at random:

  • Kasey Freeman
  • Garrick Raigosa
  • ScottyByrd
  • Abel
  • Paul Mendez (no response after multiple contact attempts)
  • Virgilio Enmanuel
  • Scott Kennedy
  • TheKaz1969
  • Benjamin Lecun
  • Alexander Tatevyan
  • djgrant

Congratulations - you will be contacted for your information in the near future!

Everyone else - keep participating and stay tuned to Android Police so that you don't miss our upcoming giveaway announcements. You can follow AP on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and RSS.

Ah, the reason why you're here: free stuff. Here's the skinny: we're giving away ten packs of five tags plus one NFC keychain each to ten lucky winners.

So, how do you enter? Drop us a line in the comments telling us how you'll use the tags to automate things in your life? Will you use the tags for a profile in the car? How about a nighttime profile before bed? Or something more intricate? Whatever the reason, just let us know.

This giveaway is available worldwide.

The giveaway begins immediately and ends on Sunday, June 3rd at 11:59 PM PT, at which time the winners will be chosen at random and notified.

Good luck!

  • EdsonDJ

I'd have one in the car so that it automatically launches the Google music app. Then, I'll have another one in my bedroom that will launch the clock/alarm app when I'm about to hop onto bed.

  • http://profiles.google.com/n3o59hf Elviss Kustans

I would like to try out programming of NFC in android. Not sure what I will automate but I think that I will try out a lot of possibilities :) One could be turn on or off wireless ADB for development.

  • http://twitter.com/LV2355 Laurentiu

I'm going to put them everywhere. Home, work, car.

  • MJ

The first NFC tag I would use would be to turn on Wi-Fi on my phone when first walk-in the door at my apartment. I am sure would be able to think of many uses for them if put my mind to it...

  • Andrew Bockus

I'd use them for turning on bluetooth and connecting in my car, since it's hard to hold a phone and drive a stick at the same time...hahaha but I would also use a couple in combination with tasker to do things like turn on my computer or something...I've made it a plan to make some really cool things happen with NFC this summer...which starts in 5 days for me...

  • HGamesTeamCato

I'll use it to make life easier for me this upcoming school year, and help me remember to turn in my stuff on time. This would help me improve my grades.

I'd post mine by light switches. One by my bedroom light that toggles airplane mode when going to bed, getting up. Another in my mancave to toggle wi-fi for when I'm going out, coming in. Oh! One on my bike, so I could mute all notifications except incoming calls and not interrupt my tunes unless absolutely necessary. So many options...

  • Lucas Rushing

I have so many uses for these tags in my personal and business life. my work schedule had me getting up at different hours and I'm always forgetting to set my alarms. some of these tags could help me too automate my alarm times. • Jeff B

I would attach a NFC tag to the back of my dock launching my alarm clock app, lower the brightness and turn off all sounds.

  • Corben Crew

    put one on my most important possessions and have my phone chime when there near...so i never lose them :}

  • nailBnny

I'd use 'em to change ringer modes on my phone.  Yeah, I'm boring.  :]

  • juustin56

Thats so cool. I would put one in the car where i always put my phone. It would make my phone go into Driving Mode and Voice Talk. I would also put one by my light switch so when i go to school, it will put my phone into silent mode.

one for home and one for work
Thank you for hosting this giveaway

    pumuckler {at} gmail {dot} com

  • John H.

Probably use it in my car.

  • Leo Herrera

I suppose I'll use it for what most people tend to be using it for; the use of profiles throughout locations in which one normally commutes and/or uses would prove extremely helpful. I would love to have a set of NFC tags to set up through out areas in which I'm most productive (or even unproductive) such as my bed, or my desk, or my car or my room. Things of that nature will allow my to be extremely intuitive with my environment. For whatever it counts, would be awesome to win a give away like this :)

  • YodaDaCoda

Car. Definately. That's got to be the only situation Locale can't detect by itself.

  • Deven G

In the car, so I can get back to my music with out looking.

  • Panzer23

I think id use them for work, home, and bed. Maybe the car also. Hmmmm something to think about.

  • Dinesh Nalluri

Ill use the tags to set different profiles up  So that when i am in office my phone can get quiet and just be in vibrate, and when i am back home it can go loud! also, when i keep it near my desk before sleeping, ill make it completely silent and just make the alarm loud!

Thank you for this neat giveaway!!

  • Randall

Going to make a system to turn the sound off on my phone when I sit at my desk at work

  • jdomann

I would use it for both fun and a bit of security research.  See what I can get on an NFC chip that could potentially be a threat.  Yay cybersecurity!

  • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com/ Cody Toombs

I've been playing with a few app ideas that would make heavy use of NFC.

  • hoboy

i'll use one to automate my "i'm home" profile - turn on wifi, send message to significant other that i'm home, and sync reading articles and social network feeds.

    mmmm. automation.

  • Mtyedavis

I'd use them for night automation.

  • Michaelsileader

Would use the tags for home/car/work mode :)

Other two I would give to my bro who also has a gnex

  • Brock B.

I would love some of these!

  • John Kow

i would stick some around my home for automation, stick one in the car to load up navigation while driving, and stick some in my books so that I won't be disturbed by my phone when i'm studying :D

  • Charles Guardino

I would probably put one on my backpack to silence my phone to school. Also, I could plan on using it to disable lock and enable wifi when I get home.

  • http://twitter.com/NullColaShip Paul Nicholls

    A few things I'd do:
    - Switch phone to silent mode when docked in my overnight charging cradle (I already have it go silent at a set time, but sometimes I go to bed earlier)
    - Automatically load up Maps Navigation when putting phone in car dock
    - Wifi setup (assuming this can be done in a way that allows NFC-capable phones to use it with minimal effort)

  • Paul Mendez

    I'd use them while driving.
It's a pain in the ass to skip tracks I don't wanna listen to while driving, so I hope these will help me with that.

  • DrMacinyasha

Oh, easy. For starters, one on the bedstand to start Night Clock and quiet down everything but the alarm, another in the car dock to launch Car Home and crank up volumes, one on the front door to adjust the ringer volume and turn on WiFi, another at my desk to mute everything and turn off LTE... The possibilities are endless!

  • Jruasap

I would set a tag on my collection of old video game systems to open their respective emulators that way I tap my SNES to play my SNES emulator, tap the Turbografx-16 to play some TG16, etc.

  • Vikram Mohan

    Oooh! The possibilities are endless....

  • SxperiaS

  • ConCal

I'm going to use it at work to keep inventory of my hard copy filing system.

  • JohnHalligan

One in the car to get myself set up for a drive, no more missed calls and messages. Also I'd have one for sticking the phone into airplane mode for when my son is playing on the phone, he has a bad habit of answering calls and chatting to a client about angry birds and the like (funny at first, now... less so)

  • https://profiles.google.com/116246093422575368473 Grant

Tag at work to drop the volume.
Tag in my car to raise the volume and turn on bluetooth (or keychain?)
Tag at home to raise the volume and turn on wifi

  • NikTheJedi

I'll put it at work and at home to set audio and bluetooth profiles. :D

  • Veridor

Definitely plan to have profiles for car, hone, and work to enable/disable Bluetooth, GPS, wifi, and mobile data accordingly.

  • Leossmith

will use it at home to turn on wifi
car to change to dock mode
and in every single room for different tasks and fan..

  • http://www.facebook.com/ktkintner Kevin Kintner

I will use the tags to set profiles and activate Tasker profiles.

  • Totte

Wifi+sync at home, spotify+bt in the car, silence+checkin at the gym as a start. have a fiew more ideas but they need work to get done.

  • Shavers80

i'd put one on my phone, and my bosses phone so i could tell when he was coming.

  • PhreshPrinz

I'll definitely use them for a car profile not sure what else yet but very excited about the possibilities!

  • Andrewecoleman

One in the car to put it in car mode, another on the desk to start music and a third on the nightstand to make it quiet.

  • Seth M

The top feature I would use it for would be when I get into my office, the tag on my desk would turn my vibration off, notification volume to low, ensure wifi is on, and run airdroid. These are all things I do every day when I get to my desk; nfc tags would definitely be useful!

  • Sean

Profiles for work, car, and home plus some experimenting for fun. :-)

  • Brian

I'd put one at the main counter of my business for people to tap to check in and add us on Google+.  One for car mode, and nighttime sounds like a good idea.  One by the office door to make a "meeting mode" (i.e. Turn your freaking phone off in the meeting, people!)

  • Tannen Skriver

I would probably have one for the car, to automatically turn my phone in car mode. Maybe one in the bathroom to turn on music or something while I'm getting ready. They'd be awesome though! Now I just need an NFC phone!

  • Aaron Newman

I will experiment and see what I can automate that will be helpful.

  • Raphael Wakabayashi

I'll use at least 5 tags:
-1 at home to active my wifi, sync/airsync
-1 at my car to activate bluetooth and google maps
-1 at office to activate the silent mode and deactivate bluetooth
-1 at office to open my BusinessCalendar app and evernote
-1 at my bike to activate my gps and open my noom app =)

  • Tuck Ngun

Probably to turn on a bedtime and at the desk profile easily.

Whatever it is, I'll feel like I'm living in the future :-)

  • http://them3blog.wordpress.com/ Abel

I'll be honest, I want them to make apps that support NFC yeah Ill play with them but I want them for development

  • http://twitter.com/sakura_candy Lumi

This sounds much more precise than Llama!

    1 for my bedroom
    1 for my office desk
1 for inside my bag, to turn the ringer volume up when I'm out and about
1 for my kitchen sink, so that my music player turns on automatically while i'm doing the dishes

  • http://www.twitter.com/morenicano Morenicano

I would have a tag for work to put my phone on vibrate and send my boss a text saying "sorry I'm late"...

  • endtojunc

I will use them to space travel from one place to another.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rob-Pester/100002479932056 Rob Pester

I have been wanting to get these so I can turn on/off my wifi to save battery life and to turn on/off my Bluetooth when in my car so I can use it with Sync. Also, I would use it to set up a nighttime profile so my alerts would not wake my wife. Really want to get these. Thanks

  • http://www.facebook.com/taylor.labrier Taylor LaBrier

Hmm... One for WiFi on and off at my door, one for music and another for maps/navigation in my car, and probably one under a pew at church to turn the ringer off. Haha!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=739822243 Russell Gutierrez

I use my phone to control by Boxee. I'd put one tag on the table to
    1. start boxee on my media center pc if it's not already running
    2. stop all the torrents so my video playback doesn't skip from too much I/O

  • cashd00d

I will put one in my bathroom so my phone will automatically herp while I derp.

  • Catiremedina

Ill use them in my car to launch car mode, on my laptop to launch wifi sync and/or something like airdroid, night stand to launch "bed mode", launch tasker profiles and iguess thsts it, ill probably do other things when i get them

  • http://sharepress.org varma

Will use the tags for shopping with my Girlfriend .. :)

  • steelew

I would use this to crank up the volume when getting into my car and start "act 1 video player" (so far, it's the best for listening to podcasts and gives the ability to bookmark video and audio content)

I would put one in my bunk to turn down the volume of all the sounds except for the alarm while I'm sleeping (lets face it, phone calls are all bad if they wake you up and I don't care about calendar notifications or winning "$1000 best but gift card" from some anonymous spam texter) I got off on a rant there... my bad.

I would also put one in my bedroom for the reason above, I really hate those fake job offers and fake winning notifications!

and last (for now) I would put one on my treadmill to activate cardio log and the deskclock while I run.

  • Sukhvirkhaira23

    Car profile, and alarm commands

  • Brian Walker

One in the car to turn off LTE and turn on GPS, one on my desk to switch to vibrate and turn on wifi, one by my bed to turn to silent, and I'll keep one in my wallet as an NFC business card. The others will find random uses.

  • miso_sori

I would use them to keep track of account infos at work. I'd have to buy more but a tag for each account, on my desk, would make pulling up account numbers and other info quick and easy.

  • Bill Schrickel

I'd use them for a great app idea so I can't give away my money maker!

  • nandre

I don't really want to pay for a whole car dock, so these tags would be great for putting it into dock mode with just my generic stand/cigarette lighter charger. Hoping to win these!

  • kapil sukhyani

Ill use them in my car to launch car mode, on my laptop to launch wifi sync and/or something like airdroid, night stand to launch "bed mode", launch tasker profiles and iguess thsts it, ill probably do other things when i get them

  • Richard Chao

definitely one to use in the car to open up my music player and put the phone on vibrate. I would also have one at work to turn on wifi and put the phone on silent. the possibilities are endless!

  • broadwayblues

Thinking that it might help me to remember to turn off the volume when I plug in my Gnex at night. The beeping drives my wife crazy.

  • Christian Joaquin

I would use the tags for tasks that I'm not using Tasker for.

  • TooSmooth93

I will use the tags to make my everyday life simpler. I'm talking about profiles EVERYWHERE. In the car, at my door, in the bed and more

  • Kaustubh Ghanekar

1 in bathroom, 1 at office desk, 1 at home door. Awesome! Many things to be done!

  • Dylan Ea

For when I get ready to leave the house, I can auto-set my profiles for work, gym and general merriment.

  • Zoneofsorrow

a school profile , a car profile , silent profile and one for home.

  • zmberven

Use it to perhaps change settings as I get in the car.

  • tikkitakkitorri

Of course I will use it for the bedtime/cartime/worktime change but I'd also love to have this to explore some general hackery... maybe it'll lead me to do some development of a super awesome sexy cool new app.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tim.roberts85 Timothy Roberts

I would like to use it in my office, maybe wi-fi on.

  • Alo Tänavots

Use NFC to write tags for user-specific commands.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rivapalacio Rudy Rivapalacio

sweet as! definitely putting my wifi info by my front door. i'll set up a second one outside my office door with my contact info for people who missed me.

  • Svinkall

I would put one at work so my phone will go silence and turn off wifi and so on, and one at home to put wifi, bt and sound on.

  • Ben

    I'll automate everything with them!!

  • GazaIan

I'd use them as location profiles. If I'm at home, I'll make it play a song. At work or school, I'll make it go silent.

  • http://www.dolphinfree.net Tenkely

With the tags I'm pretty sure I'll go buck wild with all kinds of ideas. Obviously a work profile at my off would be sweet, but I'd also like to set up some tasks, like if my wife or I feeds our dogs, we'd hit the tag and it might send a message letting the other know they've already been fed (our dogs are filthy liars). I'll probably end up trying all kinds of things and rewriting the tags a bunch, this could get very cool.

  • Nipcarlover

I would love to have some NFC tags for making my life easier and impressing my friends! :D

  • Yat Keen Wong

one tag for home, one tag for office.. the possibilities are endless.. ;)

i will just use it to show off!!1

  • https://plus.google.com/100377063879167673730/posts?hl=en Jordan Fritzsche

Definitely use them to turn on my Bluetooth, off with Wi-Fi, and on with music as soon as I get in my car!

Oh and for a great alarm clock!

  • Dima Aryeh

Car for sure. Throw one in the storage compartment to silence my phone automatically. Definitely other places too!

  • H3xTo

I'd put one on my work desk to put my phone on vibrate and another my my bed to put phone on ring

  • Martyn Haigh

I'm going to automate my house using ADK and Android - NFC tags would allow my house to know who is home.  My girlfriend hates horror movies so I was thinking I write some code so that when she's alone at home the lights start blinking on and off and I could play some suitable scary music.

    Just a thought :)

  • Garrick Raigosa

Theres so much possibility will these NFC tags. I dont even know where to begin! Well first in the car for a drive assistant or music, next to my computer to boot my messaging or anything else really, next to my stereo for music (hopefully the android @home stereo they should show at IO), in the bathroom to boot up reddit, next to my bed to set my alarm, the list goes on and on! Can this technology make anymore sense and make life any easier?!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Iliyan.D.Iliev Iliyan Iliev

I'll put one on my desk sayng me T.G.I.F!

  • Dewind

Well, for starters I'd say one near my bed for airplane mode and alarm, one at my desk at work for nearly silent sound profile and one in my backpack for bluetooth and music on the go. With the rest, I don't know.. yet!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Martin-Meier/100003487433704 Martin Meier

I would put the tags on my RC planes and write a small app to track the flight times etc.

  • Ali AlAli

great to use it as a check in for home

  • http://twitter.com/psych2L Joseph Lee

I'd use the tags to quickly change settings on the fly whenever I'm at work or home. I'd also put tags on my dog!

  • Aseem Mishra

I would use one to turn my wifi off and bluetooth on once i get in the car. I also would put one on the back of my head, and pretend that my phone can magically read minds!!

  • Loren Cogar

In Soviet Russia NFC Tags use you!!

  • pichao

i would just randomly paste them around the city hahha maybe others would find it useful and advance the technology =]

  • srinivas kodali

i would use them to build a alarm system for my house and few other automation tasks.

  • kellett23

I'd use one in my car to turn off wifi and turn on bluetooth, one for when i get home to check in and one next to my bed for a night time profile

  • Danny

i would use it to simplify my life and introduce it to my friends and encourage them to get a nfc-tag as well.

  • Gerrit Vermeulen

I'd like to play around with this at work and at home to automate...ALL THE THINGS!

  • djgrant

I would use with tasker to automate even further, setting tags for home, work, driving, etc.

  • Saif Al Ameri

I'm thinking of using it to build my senior design project of a fully automated house, office, or lifestyle. Something that can revolve around NFC.
