Last month, I took a look at just a few basic things you can do with NFC tags and a capable phone. The possibilities of things that you can do with NFC are only limited to your own ingenuity,  and we've teamed up with TagsForDroid to help you get started playing with this amazing and fun technology.

Before we get into the giveaway, though, here's another look at our demo from last month:

Like I said, those are just some of the more basic things that you can do with NFC. When combined with the power of Tasker, it really opens a whole new world of automation.

TagsForDroid

This giveaway is sponsored by TagsForDroid, a go-to place for all things NFC. They offer both Android-ified and plain white tags for all of your NFC needs, ranging in packs from two tags, up to twenty. Currently, if you buy a ten pack or larger, you'll also score a free NFC keychain, which is perfect for launching on-the-go tasks at the gym, in the car, or anywhere else you may need it.

Giveaway

The contest is now over. Here are the winners, selected at random:

Everyone else - keep participating and stay tuned to Android Police so that you don't miss our upcoming giveaway announcements. You can follow AP on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and RSS.

Ah, the reason why you're here: free stuff. Here's the skinny: we're giving away ten packs of five tags plus one NFC keychain each to ten lucky winners.

So, how do you enter? Drop us a line in the comments telling us how you'll use the tags to automate things in your life? Will you use the tags for a profile in the car? How about a nighttime profile before bed? Or something more intricate? Whatever the reason, just let us know.

This giveaway is available worldwide.

The giveaway begins immediately and ends on Sunday, June 3rd at 11:59 PM PT, at which time the winners will be chosen at random and notified.

Good luck!

  • John

I would do whatever I want to do with them and no one can stop me.

  • Patrick Fallon

Man, this is so amazing. Even if I don't win, I'm going to find out where to buy some and start making my One S into something more than a glorified paperweight. Auto sign-in for my car, Snap Fitness membership? Yes, please. Make up for the glaring fact this POS phone doesn't have an NFC chip of its own and start using Google Wallet and NFC payments? Oh, I'll find a way.

  • andrew zavala

Love me some NFC tags! I have already used all the sticker ones I bought, and could definitely use some more of these!

I have written some tasks that I will be using for NFC, but no tags to write to at the moment.

    1. Night stand. tap once at night for:
-OverSkreen turns on at 45% dim (the lowest brightness setting on the note is still extremely bright, especially in a dark room)
    -bring Media Volume to 1
    -Set System Sound to vibrate

Tapping again in the morning will revert phone back to normal state :D

    2. Bike Tag. Tap once for:
    -turn GPS on
    -Launch SportyPal
    -Launch Apollo Music player

NFC is the best thing to happen to our phones!

  • Julius Besser

I'd use it to open up the maps in the car and use another one to change some settings before sleeping.

Oooooh, I'm not sure what i would do besides car, school, and home profiling, but these would be insanely fun to play with!

  • ryanmmoore

I'm looking for a way to test NFC... love the possibilities.
First I'd have one on my bike, so that it would turn on BT, connect to my headphones and turn on a few apps (endomodo and play music)

Another I'd have at work (silent, wifi, etc...)

    one for bed...

so many ideas... is 5 going to be enough?

  • Alex Blaze

One in my bedroom, One in the car, One for my Church and One for when my 3 year old has my phone!

  • MacMan156

have one at home to turn my phone from vibrate only to ring

  • flo95

I would use the tags for everything. For example one to save my address, mobile number etc. to share it simply with users of upcoming phones using NFC. Also with simply profiles for car, home, work and outdoor.

And if it's able, i would configure a tag to connect to a wifi by simply holding the phone to the tag.

  • Stefany Baez Rodriguez

Uhmmm I WANT. I'd put one on my door to toggle WiFi as soon as I get home. Then use the others to play around with other stuff in the house.

  • Rob W.

My phone signal is terrible in my home, so I would use a "going out," and a "coming in" tag.
One will turn off WiFi, open the music app to my driving playlist, connect to my car Bluetooth, arm the security system, and unlock my car.
The other tag will do the opposite of the first.

  • Erik Horte

    5 tags, huh? Guess I'd set;
    1. Home mode, wi-fi on
    2. Bed mode, enabling my alarm with different times for the weekend. Set ringer to silent.

  • Samir Taylor

I'll use mine for work and school

1 at my desk so I can track time spent at work.
1 on the back of my Pebble watch when I get it, so I can turn on Endomondo, bluetooth and music when running or biking.
1 at home with Wifi settings, so when someone's at my home they can just swipe their phone to connect to my Wifi.
1 for opening the frontdoor if possible.
1 more at work to open the door instead of using the trivial keycard.

  • Kjani

I will use them as a business card.

i would use those tags to track down the sell-by date of what i put in my fridge.

I have lousy 4G and Cell reception at home so I run Groove IP off of Wifi at home. Sometimes I forget to turn on the wifi and Groove IP when I get home. A tag on the door would solve that problem.

  • Jelle van M.

I would use it to automatically set my alarm for the next day, so I would never be late again!

  • yash1229

I'd like one of these because it would make my life much easier and make me feel like I'm in the magical world of Harry Potter.. Oops, Android! :P

I'd use them to set up work profiles. Nothing worse than my phone going off loudly while my supervisor is behind me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stacy-Shaw/100000255574834 Stacy Shaw

Ahhh, the possibilities are truly endless.  Like almost everyone else I would set up a couple of different profiles for home and my car.  I can also see setting up a "kid friendly" profile for when my nieces want to play around with my phone and I'm starting to gather stuff to make an NFC door lock.

  • http://twitter.com/andr3wjacks0n andrew jackson

I can think of a few.
    1. Put one in my car that will take me home using my GPS anywhere I am,

    3. On in my suit pocket that silences my phone and puts it into airplane mode while in church.

  • FaSSt2001

I will use them to implement NFC actions into my app.

  • http://twitter.com/zealotonastick zealotonastick

I'd love a set of these.  One for the car, one for my desk at work, one for my desk at home, one for the coffee table in the living room, one for my bedside bookcase where my phone lives when I'm sleeping.  I could think of a couple more things given time I'm sure.

  • Alex Martin

I'd stick one to the inside of the panel that covers the batteries in my wireless earphones, and have it turn Bluetooth on. I'd stick one to my coffee grinder to start a timer app to get coffee brewing perfect.

  • Christopher Heuer

I'd use one by my desk at work, desk at home, nightstand, and in the car for changing volume/settings. Plus one more to play with and show off. :D

One for a home profile, one for a sleepy time profile, one for work...others to play with the endless possibilities.

  • Nash1551

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/ZR46R6TCFQKZNFOFSICTNTQYWY Erik Roessing

I will convince my work to allow us to clock in and out with nfc tags as opposed to badge readers.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001907162275 Torstein Molland

First, i'd tap it to turn off airplanemode and silent and open androidpolice. Then i'd tap it to start mp3 player with my bicycling playlist. Then i'd tap it to turn on airplanemode, turn off wifi, data and autosync. Then I'd tap it to turn those features on again and open the mp3 player again with my bicycling playlist. Then i'd tap it to turn those features off again.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Dustin-Carney/1004713533 Dustin Carney

I would use these to mess with my family as they all have NFC enabled phones, so it will do various things that will freak them out ;)

  • MyNameIsLOS

I finally got an nfc capable phone (evo lte) and am working on a custom dash panel and it would be sweet if when I dock the phone it would automatically go into my car mode app.

  • Hisayo

I would create a profile for the car.
Set up a night time tag for alarm on, music off in 30 minutes and turn device off. I know I would do others :-)

  • http://komorkomania.pl/author/michal-brzezinski Michal Brzezinski

I would schedule the app "Mosquito Repellent" (which supposedly works) and at night, when I always open the windows, these irritating insects will not bother me.

  • Mll4eveR

    looks nice!

  • Tiggerbits

If only they had a larger radius .... say 10ft, then I would stick one to my boss and set my phone to play a ring tone every time he comes my way !!!

  • Rich

Id love to try this out.

  • edgar amaya

    1. have one in my dock and set it to open tablet remote and control my tablet/fancy play music radio
    2. one by my bed for when i go to sleep it wont wake me up
    3. i'd put one on the bluetooth headphones i'm (eventually) getting so i can just tap my phone on them and bluetooth gets turn on
and idk what i'd use the rest for, probably just experiment with them

  • FtBastrd2

After seeing your video last month I ordered some which arrived to me in the UK today. However, my phone can't / won't read them. I seem to be the only person with this problem. Either its my phone or they're just pretty looking discs. Any suggestions? I'm running the code name from and beam works just fine...

  • Scott Warner

    Easy automation :)

  • http://twitter.com/DarrenRichie Darren Richards

I would use them to get my phone ready in the morning for my car journey and also to set it for sleepy time!

  • aceofhearts24

I could use one im my office to turn on Wifi, turn off GPS, silence my phone and turn off Bluetooth.  One in my car to turn on GPS, turn off Wifi, turn on Bluetooth, and start my music player.  One by my bedside to turn on Wifi, off GPS, off Bluetooth and silent mode on.  The rest I'd set up around my house.  One on my BBQ to turn on music player. etc etc

  • shmuelp

The most interesting would be a tag to quickly pause music if people come up to talk to me while I'm listening to a podcast on my headset.

Other uses: car, home, work, and nightstand profiles; vcard on the keychain.

  • Roy

Tag music on when I get in the door, tag blue tooth on in the car, give 2 tags to my wife cause a nice guy

I will us them in the car mostly.

  • Scott Standish-Parkin

i just need the tags to do what i want to do :0) profile for work, home, car. Also since I'm a school Psychologist i could put these on my students folders to set reminders for their meeting dates with all the info of their parents and when best to contact them. I guess other privileged people could use them too :)

  • Signewton

Definitely have one on my backpack to silence my nexus during class. Also one for the car and work would be great.

  • Joshua Flowers

i'm going to give them to my brother to use with his G-Nex so he can automatically turn on wifi @ home, quiet mode & activate his daughters favorite app when he walks in the door.

  • http://twitter.com/tyleralane Tyler Lane

I'd have tags for different phone settings at work and home so i can just touch the tag with my phone to change settings.

Definitely a sleepytime tag, one to start ADB over wifi and AirDroid/SFTP server, and who knows what else...

I would use it to fire up my home theatre system, via my phone remote of course :)

Probably will use the others for sleep/work/chill profiles!
