Hey all you OG Transformer owners - wanna unlock your tablet by looking at it? Better start hitting that 'System Updates' button, because ASUS just started pushing an OTA that will let you do just that. This update not only brings Face Unlock to the device, but a handful of other features and fixes:

  • Improves system stability
  • Improves Email App stability
  • Improves MyNet stability
  • Improves MyLibrary stability
  • Add System Bar Lock: Lock the system bar  when playing games
  • Add Email App new feature: Email download size/Thread/Out of office notification/Mail Sync schedule

The update should be rolling out to all TF101's in the U.S. and Canada right now; head into Settings > About tablet > System Firmware Update to pull it down and get some Face Unlock action.

The real question is did they finally fix the randon reboot issues

This update might fix it for some users, but at least this update will reduce it.
While this update was being tested some testers had reboots. But Asus is already testing the new .25 update so eventually it will be fixed.

Although its price is relatively cheap! But I still recommend this one! Ainol Novo 7 Tornados Android 4.0 Tablet PC    http://weba.im/06454

Pretty sure the last one made it worse for me.
Time to roll the dice again and see if I get a 6 or a 1.

Someone posted on reddit 2 days ago that he is one of the testers and this update (which he claimed would be out yesterday so not too far off) fixed his reboot issues.

It's nice to see Asus not neglecting their older devices like some manufacturers *cough*

Yet they completely abandon their customers. I've sent back an RMA-damaged TF101 to RMA again (after it got uselessly damaged by their induced damage. They've sent it back to me second time with a damage caused by RMA), their response? "Sorry to tell you, we're not able to repair the damage under warranty as it is clearly caused by you". All my reasoning was like talking to a wall, so I rather pay 50€ just to get my tablet back, or shut my mouth and let them have it, without fixing it or anything. And I'm not paying them...

And I've sent a very detailed ticket about problems with the built-in e-mail app, and its inability to address certain corporate ActiveSync/Exchange policies. I literally got an "I'm sorry, but I don't understand. Goodbye"-kind of e-mail from one of their techs.

One of the reasons I went with Asus was due to reports of good customer service. So far it's rather negative.

Fortunately I've never had issues with Asus. There are and always will be employees that will be vulgar or rude. You can't base your opinion on 1 or 2 encounters. The issue with RMA damage is clearly stated in your warranty card that RMA damage is not covered. The employee probably didn't know what he was talking about. Asus will try and work with you but you've got to understand that many take advantage of RMA and strict rules need to be applied. I just hope that you were wrong and Asus is not turning into a bad apple.

Andres, can you explain to me this corporate apoligist mentality that exists on the Internet? Why do some people feel the need to defend a company when multiple people complain about something the company did wrong.

When the Transformer Prime came out and the aluminum case disrupted both GPS and Wifi signals so many people posted "oh you don't need GPS on a tablet anyway". What complete hogwash! People paid for the hardware and it didn't work. They SHOULD complain.

It isn't just Asus... I noticed the same thing on the Motorola boards when I owned a Xoom. People complained the SD card reader they paid for didn't work (and it took 9 months for them to roll that out). But other posters insulted those who complained and made excuses for Motorola.

I am curious why would you defend them unless you were an employee or shareholder? I just don't get why tell people they are wrong to complain (which you did)?

I don't know if anybody else has it, but it didn't fix my camera =(

    • Josh C

are you having that issue where it freezes if you go to panorama mode? if so you need to wipe your tablet to factory. fixed it for me.

      • Brandon James Starcevic

No, it just says can not connect to camera, with a black screen.

this is really F*cked up.  How did the TF101 suddenly become the "lead" tablet.  TF201 owners still don't have face unlock.  AFter all the trouble I've had with Asus (GPS, customer service), I'll never buy another Asus ANYTHING.

I just wish they would sort the dodgy you tube playback and sleep of death, kinda ruins an otherwise decent tablet :-(
