It's been like, what, two weeks since our last Rezound ICS leak? That must mean it's time for another, so today we build 3.14.605.5 (build date: 4/28) for your downloading pleasure.

This build offers a handful of fixes over the the previous leak, along with a new set of radios (really, we mean it this time). With that, let's get to it!

Changelog:

  • Lock screen shortcut settings separated from launcher bar shortcuts
  • 3G/4G icon displayed prior to entering decryption password
  • Hidden menu (*#*#4636#*#*) removed
  • Messages application – wrong sender displayed on occasion
  • IPv6 solicitation timer value change
  • New radios

1 2

Download: (MD5: 6ba6f7f2905017002e94dd7f1e8c7b0a)

Installation Instructions:

This will not work if you used the HTC Bootloader unlock tool. Your device must be fully stock with a locked bootloader or you must have S-Off (method).
  • After downloading the file, rename it to "PH98IMG.zip" (no quotes)
  • Place the renamed file onto the root of the SD Card
  • Power down your device
  • Reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + Power
  • The flashing process should begin automatically

Let the device reboot, and you're done. Enjoy!

    Does this wipe?

    • thedarryl

      Yes

      • Airtas

do apps auto restore on ICS?

        • http://twitter.com/aplacefortweets twittter account

if you have it set already to back up to your google account, yes, they should.   At least they do on my CM9 ics rom :)

  • Guest

As a followup, will the OTA that's supposed to come on Wednesday wipe?

    • thedarryl

lilkely the only way you'll get ota is if you're still on the GB stock rom, at which point, it should not wipe, it would/will just be an upgrade.

  • phaded

Don't like the removal of the hidden menu... I use that a lot.

    • Guest

Does this also mean that we won't be able to use the LTE on/off app from the market?

      • RobMorris

Possibly, but you can still turn it off under mobile network settings

    • http://twitter.com/EzioAuditore007 Galen Shepard

While the hidden menu is missing, 4G Toggle by We Make Better Apps allows you to still change to GSM/WCDMA.

  • TBolt

Why would the hidden menu be removed?

    • Howard

Because people are buying T-Mobile, AT&T, or international SIM cards and using the rezound on their GSM or WCDMA networks.  And doing this without paying Verizon any special fees.

      • Howard

Without the 4636 hidden menu, they can not switch to GSM, WCDMA, or others.

        • TBolt

So, now I have a real reason to root.  Interesting how that works out.  Thanks for the info.

        • http://www.mark717.com Mark Seven

That sucks. That ability actually makes the phone more 'buy-able'... They are screwing themselves...

      • Azuleclipsegs

How unlock my rezound to use with gsm sim card

      • Bakemcbride21

How is that possible (using a Rezound on a GSM network) when it only has CDMA 800, 1900, 2000 and LTE 700 radios???

        • http://twitter.com/EzioAuditore007 Galen Shepard

It has the GSM radios, HTC talked about it, VZW did not.  While the hidden menu is missing, 4G Toggle by We Make Better Apps allows you to still change to GSM/WCDMA.

  • Matthewljaustin1

Thanks for leak but why does it take so long to download.

    • Jbowman1018

Because its a complete device firmware (very big) not just the updated parts plus I would imagine a lot of people are d/ling it.

  • Emmo

I got it loaded but it want register with the network.  How do I force it to register with the network?

  • Howard

    No more 4636 menu?
    That's it!!!

Last year I swore I'd never buy another Motorola product because they keep making it harder and harder to root.

Now, I swear I'll never leave Verizon for good when my contract is up.

Those money grubby Verizon people will lose so much business they'll be selling their assets to someone else.

Everyone who buys a phone, first goes to their local phone techie guy - and he'll be saying stay away from Verizon and every Verizon phone.

    • Howard

oops, typing mistake.  change "I'll never leave verizon for good" to read "I'll leave verizon for good"

      • TynanDeRosa

What the fuck are you smoking? You can unlock your Rezound via the htc unlock tool, and this will have a rooted version for people on the unlocked boot loader in like a day.

Also the hidden menu will be back in too.

    • http://twitter.com/AthoraX athorax

I love Verizon. They have always treated my fairly and I have pretty decent coverage, but if they keep picking up every POS locked up phone (yes I know you can unlock via HTC) I am going to leave for TMO. They have just as good of coverage (~13 Mbps vs ~20 on Verizon isn't a significant difference) and they are cheaper. Oh, and they have all the best phones. It is becoming harder and harder to reason why I would stay with big red.

    • Mat_t

don't be crazy. They probably just changed the numbers for the menu to 2626 or 2828 or something. That by itself is still stupid, yes, but I don't think they'd turn off that menu entirely when they release the OTA.

    • http://twitter.com/EzioAuditore007 Galen Shepard

While the hidden menu is missing, 4G Toggle by We Make Better Apps allows you to still change to GSM/WCDMA.

  • Raggioazzura

Does a relocked bootloader work? Or does it have to be completely locked up tight?

    • Keiferson22

Relocked boot loader works with this type of update...Just put the file/image in the root of SD card and boot into recovery.

How do I get stock GB? I want to get the OTA update on Wednesday or at the release time, I am  using previous
    build date: 4/28 any help????

    • nicotinic

You'll need to S-OFF(security off) your Rezound if you haven't already.
Detailed instructions are available on XDA forums.
      http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1612035

Once that's complete you'll need to download the RUU to get back to stock Gingerbread RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_2.01.605.11.
      http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338916

^^keep in mind that you run this file in Windows with your device attached(it's an exe file). It will walk you through the process.

There's more detail in the forum.

      • http://www.facebook.com/anthony.m.blue Tony Blue

If you're not rooted, you shouldn't really need to do anything as the OTA *should* still have a newer version number than this build.

Barring that, the first thread Nico listed should be sufficient, as someone will mirror the new OTA once it's out just like the leaks have been posted.

Don't Worry too much, but yes, to go back to GB I'm pretty sure you'd need to S-Off the phone so you can overwrite the hboot back to the GB one.

        • http://www.facebook.com/mrdjeep77 Pedro Zelaya

no, i am not tooted,  just using the previous leak,  so  you think whe Verizon releases the new OTA will update my Rezound without having to go back to GB???

          • nicotinic

Sorry for the wait. First, you're welcome.

Second, no you will NOT be able to update to the upcoming OTA without returning to stock GB 2.01.605.11.

Sooo...if it's still what you want to do, Root the phone, S-OFF the device, flash the RUU .exe for stock GB and then wait for the OTA to be announced(short version).

        • nicotinic

It's true if he S-OFFs the device and waits for the download to be available on the forums he'll be able to flash that way. I just wanted to answer based soley on his question w/o hitting him with ifs and how I'd do its.

If he wants the OTA direct through his device update screen as a stock user would, then he'll need to be back on stock GB.

      • http://www.facebook.com/mrdjeep77 Pedro Zelaya

thank you so much, I will try  tonight!

  • Adil

Does the rezound have to be rooted for this????????

    • http://www.mark717.com Mark Seven

No, it says u must be completely stock.

  • http://www.mark717.com Mark Seven

If I scan the QR code for the download what will I need to do next?? (Not sayin I'ma do it but just in case I do)

  • http://twitter.com/whatupbigworm Kevin Williams

I downloaded followed the instructions to a T, only for my device to tell me: "Image missing" or something to that affect. It took me hours to download this update so has anyone else had issues with it not installing?

    • Bigsoccermusic

      same thing for me...

    • Bigsoccermusic

Ok, found some help from old instructions - this works!I just discovered that on my phone i have two folders labeled 'sdcard'. One is 'sdcard' and one is 'sdcard2'. I tried loading the .zip in the 'sdcard' folder and had issues when booting, but after downloading astro i discovered the two directories. I loaded the .zip into the 'sdcard2' folder and rebooted and it appears to be loading successfully now.

    • Kyle

try putting the file on the sd root without .zip in the name. This worked for me

  • Bigsoccermusic

These directions don't work, right?  I keep getting a "wrong image" or "missing image" message.

And these directions, for the same file, take you into recovery mode.  The directions above say it just happens automatically.
First of all, Download Latest ICS Package on your computer from here. If this link is not working you can try mirror link. After downloading the package rename it as PH98IMG not as PH98IMG.zip if you are on Windows Operating System.Once its done, connect your Android device with computer and move the renamed package to the root folder of the SD Card. After it disconnect your device and turn off it.Now enter into Recovery Mode using Boot Loader by pressing and holding both the Volume Keys and Power buttons simultaneously. In Recovery Mode, navigate to Install Zip From SD CardàChoose Zip From SD CardàDownloaded Package. Use Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate between options and Power Button to select any option. Now it will take 3-4 minutes to update, once it updated you will get back on Recovery Mode Screen. Select ++++Go Back++++ in recovery mode and then Reboot System Now.It will take sometimes to restart your device. Don’t worry if your device doesn’t start in 3-4 minutes. But if isn’t showing home screen within 5 minutes then try to start with re-inserting the battery in it.

My coverage is within 1 inch either way of Loosing 3g and 4g and phone locks up.

Obione-Kanobi-1 May 8, 2012 3:07 PM I have just gotten off the phone with their Corporate folks as they were not to impressed with me for filing a complaint with the FCC because of my coverage or should I say lack there of. From what she told me after all the legal mubo jumbo was that the coverage map which was not so well done is only a maybe for coverage as their are 3 little fine print exclusions on the WEB.
I conveyed to her that if you tell me I have 4g and 3g and I move my phone on my nightstand 1 inch either way I loose the 4g. If I move it the other way I lose 3g and the phone locks up till I go into airplane mode and and back out. According to her I am on the fringe of the signals and they are sharing their signal with anouther carrier. In other words tough roller skates. And then to have the audasity to charge me an extra $30.00 to change out the old home phone connect for the newer one that you can get an extended antenea for. Get rid of theold inventory and charge for the upgrade or switch and bait. I urge everyone to file with the FCC individually and hold Verizon to task, I told her I would continue to persue this with the FCC till my area was fixed. I have a Rezound that is stock. Plus for some reason when I tried to log back into this site I have to unlock my Account as it had been locked for some reason. Wonder who would have done such a thing to me especially after a phone call from Verizon Corporate. ( HUMMMM )

  • Storieddeth

Doesn't work. Have followed ALL directions in the initial article and then in subsequent posts. When I select recovery in HBOOT it just reboots my P.O.S. Rezound and does nothing. I should have gone with the RAZR Maxx... I guess I've learned my HTC lesson.

    • http://twitter.com/Pucuck Nicholas Ringhiser

You don't select recovery when you go to the HBOOT. If the process doesn't automatically start, you need to go to "bootloader" and it will scan for the PH98IMG.zip file. Once it finds the zip, it will load it and then ask you if you want to flash it.

Are you S-ON Locked/Relocked or S-OFF Locked? Those are the only ways you'll be able to flash the zip. Also, make sure you have the zip on the root of the external memory card and not the root of the internal.

    • Keiferson22

Wow! You seem to be having quite a bit of trouble with such a simple task, maybe you should consider grabbing an iPhone!

    • Guest

Happened to me too. Will not go to recovery. I removed the battery, reinstalled after a minute or so. Reboot to recovery Vol down + Power on. It worked. Hope this helps. Oh by the way, I copied the zip file to both sd cards (root) just to be sure it is found. You can always delete it after the update with a file manager available in Google Play Store.

      • Keiferson22

The reason it will not go into recovery is that you have fastboot selected in power options. This will not allow you to reboot into recovery/hboot. Go to settings > power > deselect fastboot...

    • Jhartsb

How is the Rezound a P.O.S.??? Mine works very well and the screen makes the razr look like shit. Like the comment below says, you need to turn off Fastboot. Gosh I hate people like you that call a device crap because they don't know how to use it. Also there is this thing called GOOGLE, if you have a problem do a simple search.

      • balthuszar

he didnt say the rezound was a POS...he said HIS rezound was a pos...which roughly translates as he tried to do something that he had no idea how to do it and screwed things up

  • Corollas33

where is the root on the sd card i dont see it listed

    • Keiferson22

Root just means its not in a folder but on the sd card.  Think of placing a file on your desktop but not dropping it into a folder.  So when you look in your SD card the PH98IMG.zip should be visible without having to navigate to some place within a folder.

  • Andy

Is the notification sound / volume ever going to be fixed?  Will I ever be able to turn off haptic feedback when typing?  Both of these were non-issues with GB.  If this is what the OTA will be like then I'll have to go back to counting the days when I can get another phone.  It will be a long year.

    • Jhartsb

Remember this is a leak and has bugs, so just be patient and since those are pretty major bugs i think they will be fixed in the final build.

  • ntarr

Has anyone seen any improvements with this release? I love
the phone, but cannot get more than 7 hours on the extended battery and have
some reception issue is some locations.

It does seem somewhat faster with application loads, but I now get about 5dB lower signal strength and about 6 hour’s
    battery.

  • Dragonpontiac1979

Has anyone had any issues with sending E-mail? I got a app from the market place, then wanted a refund. From my phone I was in the market place, tried to E-mail the creator of the app. My phone gave me a error, E-mails come throw just fine tho. On top of that I can not delete an E-mail account ether. Other then that I love ICS on my Rezound :) P.S. Its the 10th of May and two diff Big Red reps told me they don't see a OTA Update for the Rezound now or anytime this month. :(  Thanks BIG RED for sitting on this as long as you can......

  • Darren Morten

Is it possible to root this once installed?

  • Doublee313

Still Bugs.  If you have a Visual Voicemail it connects to other texts and messes things up.  I could be texting someone and it's not the right person!  Still can't download some paid applications from Google Play as they say "Incompatible".

  • Izzaeroth

Is anyone having problems with google latitude not loading up? mine just sits on loading

  • Palmer Horst

So I did it, and it said press power to reboot, which I did, and it shut the phone off, and now it does nothing.  No charging, so booting, no life whatsoever, nothing....

    • Jhartsb

this happened to me after a unsuccessful rom install. I let it sit and then pulled the battery out and bam it suddenly turned on. Dont know if i was just lucky or it just got stuck doing something. Might be worth a try.

  • Piano_Man

Upgraded Thursday evening. Had a few issues understanding 'how to' but the software loaded well and all apps are reloaded with the exception of those that apparently will not work with this latest ICS.

    1) Place the zip file at the top/root level of both 16GB SD cards then no guessing. Your SD with the Android software is a complete wipe to write ICS from what I could see - meaning old Android software gone and overwritten by new. No harm done.

    2) Just hold VOL DN and POWER was not correct on my phone. I had to remove the battery, reinsert and then try VOL DN and POWER.

    3) The only app I was unable to reload was CWTV with incompatible as a reason. All other apps, 40-50, of them reloaded.

    4) It is a complete redo for all settings, apps reloaded and configuring the way you want - don't do this right before a trip away or a busy weekend. Just like the day you got the phone except with all the apps and things you have added since.

  • sess

wtf can't I get this to download? does anyone know a better mirror?

  • Disgruntled Android User

How many times have we seen this? A "leaked" release date, a "leaked' release candidate, then no official release for a long time thereafter.  Plan on getting the official ICS sometime in September or later.

  • http://www.facebook.com/vic1989 Victor Ortiz

I just tried to Flash it and it wouldn't find the zip file. I had to take the "zip" off of the end of the file name because when I found it on the phone it said
PH98IMG.zip.zip. so i took it off and it worked just fine.

make doubly sure that the file is named
      PH98IMG.zip and not
      PH98IMG.zip.zip

      i made that mistake

  • Dmnmcnl

I must be completely retarded with this thing. I've tried it dozens of different ways: with the .zip on the end, with out it, on the internal memory, on the sd card, on both. Nothing is working. It boots up into the HBOOT menu, scans for files and tells me that there is "No Image!" with each. Sometimes the scans take 3 seconds, others it takes about a minute.
I've even tried downloading the again and making sure it's been named correctly. I have the fastboot turned off. I don't know what else I'm doing wrong.

    • Dmnmcnl

well, I got it to work. But it deleted every app and setting I ever had. It also deleted all my pictures & videos. Absolutely everything is gone, even from my external sd card. I wish I'd known that was going to happen...

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5EFE2QWQDCQP7PYZU2G724KL3M ummm…no

sweeeeeet worked like a charm... alright incase anyone runs into my issues ill give you a quick run down to help out. i installed the zip file i downloaded to the sd and the ext sd roots cause some people said it didnt find it... i did both to be safe and it worked so w/e. anyway make sure you have fast boot turn off in your power settings or its skips the boot loader check and wont read the file. shut off phone. press vol down + pwr. once it works it said 3 lines for me. ph98img.zip blah blah 3 times. under the first said no image under the second no image and wrong file but under the third it said loading so i waited and it worked... idk if other people saw the first two and just thought it wasnt working based on what i read in previous comments. anyway then it has a file list. vol up is update. then it said it updated 3 of the files in the list and just shut off... i think its a multistep process and i hit power it seemed like it started over from the beggining but this time it went through and updated all the lines so it might just be a first and second step. also the system line keeps sayin unzipping then updating and repeat.. like 40 times... its alot of dif files its not froze and repeating so dont be alarmed.. had me wondering for a few minutes if it froze or not so im just warning you. anyway then it was done, booted up and u do ur setup wizard and presto change-o you have ics....

    • Jon

TRUST ME PEOPLE!!! so many people are posting issues regarding install problems, if Everyone would just read this guys post you will not have any problems. i tried every way to install for over a hour everything failed i tried it exactly as in this post and 15 minutes or so later im doing the initial set up for ICS. The biggest thing i can stress is the part about repeating update 40 times that felt like it wasnt going to finish but it does. Any way im running ICS flawlessly on my Rezound the only issue or complaint i have is theres a section on the android website that details ICS and it shows improvements to the camera app and a new looking gallery, Neither of mine changed a bit.

  • AZ Bob

My phone finds the zip file, says it's loading, then checking with a progress bar at the upper right.  When that finishes, I return to the HBOOT menu.  Now what?  I've gotten this far four times now.  Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

    • Bobnstar

P.S. I don't get a file list, nor an option to update.

    • DavidStark

I was having the same problem. I went to the .zip file on my computer and decided to extract it to see what i was dealing with.. it extracted to another zip file named rezound_AndroidPolice_3.14.605.5_PH98IMG.zip. I renamed THAT one PH98IMG.zip, transferred it to the root of the SD card and the phone (just to be safe) and it worked. I'm using a mac, and I think it repackaged the zip file after it downloaded it.. not sure if thats the case but who knows lol hope that helps

k i installed the latest leak to my new Rezound a week ago and it runs perfect. no crashes or errors at all. and although I do have most of the builds upgrades, my camera and gallery were unaffected. i found a android site that shows some cool improvements to the camera app and a new layout for the gallery. but mines the same, any suggestions???
