If you're one of the many who jumped on the Spotify bandwagon when it finally showed up in the U.S., then you'll be happy to know that the Spotify folks have been working on a new build that will bring a whole new interface and full support for ICS devices.

New Features:

  • Totally new app with full support for Android 4.0
  • Top-to-bottom redesign
  • All-new slide-out navigation
  • Even more social - check out friends’ profile pages and playlists on the go
  • Artist imagery in high resolution
  • Related artist view - available for the first time on mobile
  • 'Extreme' sound quality setting for 320kbps listening
  • So much faster!

They're also working to incorporate Last.fm scrobbling and support for folders. While the updated app isn't yet available in the Play Store, the team has decided to offer it up to the masses in beta form. Before you can use it, however, you need to be a Spotify Premium subscriber; if you're not, you can go here to sign up for a 30 day free trial. To grab the download, check out the Spotify Blog.

I jumped on the bandwagon mid-2011 but had to dump them a couple of months ago due to poor customer service and lack of support for the app which is well documented in the comments in the Play Store. I have no interest in going back though I've yet to find a comparable alternative. I'll stick to iHeartRadio until Spotify proves themselves again.

And still no updated user interface for tablets.

I have been digging slacker radio. Very good playlists. Spotify, to little to late for me. You should have been on the ball with android months ago.

Spotify is awesome. All the new apps have made it even easier to find music.

A friend saw me using Pandora and told me I should really be using Spotify. I downloaded it and was wary when I saw it was made with Adobe AIR. Then I opened it and saw how much it looked like iTunes.
I immediately vomited on my keyboard and uninstalled.
    Never again.

It's made in C++ but don't let that stop the hating.

That is shocking, I only took a brief look, but I was so sure it was in AIR. What developer would do this willingly?

I will continue to hate with the ferocity of a million suns.

the desktop application for PandoraOne is made with adobe air

And this is why I will not use the desktop app.

You can use http://play.spotify.com on the PC. It's better. Not great, but better.

    Is this real life?

Can anyone please test this and tell me if it wipes out your offline sync as has happened the last two times I updated to a beta :-(

    • OFI

Didn't wipe out my downloads awesome!

This looks SO much better. But yea still not seeing any folder option.. that thing we've been asking for for over a year. I have 232 playlists.. let me sort them. It would make the app faster for one thing! Not too interested in seeing my own pic and name above every playlist either but otherwise great looking UI now ABOUT TIME!

      • OFI

oops article said they are working on folders. Was honestly too excited to read it all after seeing the pics lol

I have installed latest version on my ics Archos 80 g9, great looking interface but still having the offline issue if I have any spotify content saved locally. Just reinstalled and removed offline content and it works OK again, fine when I have wifi access but really Ned to be able to store locally and stream when required.

It doesn't work at ALL on ICS tablets. Spotify is garbage.
