If there's one thing Android lovers can unite around, it's that we have the best community around. When CyanogenMod put out the call back in February asking for donations to get some new servers, the community responded enthusiastically. Now, the most popular third-party ROM developer is announcing that the servers are online and capable of building CM9 in nine minutes. Whoa.

This is where the magic happens.

The team says there's still some work to be done before these babies are cranking, but once they've set up schedulers to automate the builds, the new servers will be able to put together bleeding edge ROMs for your device faster than you can say "Holy crap, that was really friggin' fast."

For those who are curious (and aren't we all?) those are three Dell R610s in the photo of the CM servers above. Each server packs dual Xeon X5675 CPUs for a whopping 12 cores and a drool-worthy 32GB of RAM. In related news, my face just melted off.

    But can they run Crysis?

    • Daniel Kownacki

Yeah, they can compile Crysis in 8 minutes ;)

But can it beat me at Pong? ;)

        • ElfirBFG

How about a game of tic-tac-toe. Set players:0

        • Josh Flowers

but can it beat---Joshua? "Would you like to play a game of chess?"

  • Thomas

It can run Crysis with software emulation of Direct3D

  • James R

Hehe those little servers are so cute. But still cudos to the CM team

    • Sootie

+1, I have 4 of those with the same specs performing some menial low end testing rubbish before it moves over to the real servers

  • jeff1201

May be time to invest in a real network switch.

lol - I was just thinking that

Hope it will go fast CM 9  to stable :D

  • Nakedgoat

What OS are the servers running ?

    • http://meatcastle.com/ bwbloom

It initially had OS X Lion but they did not like Mission Control so they just installed an old copy of Windows 95.

Eric, if any of your melted face got on the floor in the Android Police Station breakroom, please mop it up before you go home for the evening. Thanks.

Wait, we have a break room? WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME?

Working for an Android shop myself, compile Android for some tablets. We learned all about compiling Android, we have several R610's (12-18 months old aren't they?) and they did ok but it turns out the best compilation systems were brand new 2nd generation core I7 computers; we went with some cheaper optiplex 990's. They compile android fast! We tried SSD, in case compile was being limited by disk IO, but it turns out the CPU is a bigger limiting factor (SSD helped only a little) so we settled on a couple of fast SATA drives in a RAID 0 configuration. Instead of 1 or 2 beefy 2-3.5k xeon systems we got 4 or 5 optiplex 990's for under 1k each.

They have four builds going on now on get.cm/

  • Deltaechoe

I heard these servers compiled cm9 faster than Chuck Norris

  • sssgadget

Please CM team should change the mascot! Looks mean and angry...lol

    • Yes

I agree. i think the "beta" one was better than the final

    impressive...most impressive

  • Cornbread12

noob question: what does this mean, it can "build" CM9? Does this mean more CM9 nightlies are imminent?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Correct: this will likely mean nightlies for all supported devices will be posted in a timely fashion, not just select ones.

      • Cornbread12

woot, can't wait. I need some CM9 on my EVO 4G

  • RocketScience11

It takes 9 minutes for my emulator to boot up....

  • John

They need to work on their network infrastructure...
