Last Updated: June 5th, 2012

It's been a while since VZW showed any love to Thunderbolt owners, but that doesn't mean that it has forgotten about them completely. In fact, we just received a leak of a new build that brings some fixes and enhancements to Big Red's first LTE device.

Download and Flash

Disclaimer: Android Police isn't responsible for any harm to your device - proceed at your own risk.

If you unlocked your phone with the official HTC unlock tool, you will need to re-lock in order to flash this!

First things first, you're going to need the download.

Once that's finished, here's how to flash it:

Update: The RUU also includes a new radio.

CAP201204171511

This is a full RUU, so it will completely wipe your phone.
  • After downloading it, rename it to "PG05IMG.zip"  Note: If you're doing this from a Windows machine, make sure you don't rename the file "PG05IMG.zip.zip," as Windows hides known file extensions by default.
  • Drop the file on the root of the SD Card
  • Turn off your device
  • Hold Volume Down + Power to reboot into the bootloader -- the file should automatically be detected and the flashing process will begin.
  • Wait for your device to complete the process and reboot

...and you're done. Let us know how it goes in the comments. Enjoy!

Thanks, Jack the Rapper!

I saw "Leak" and thought ICS :-/ That's disappointing...

Hopefully that's next :) Whenever they get it ready.

Looks like there's a new radio here after all, our tipster just didn't flash it. I'm trying to get more details now - in the meantime, if you flashed this build, could you please post the About screens?

Hard to believe it's almost May and this phone, just about 1 year old, is end of life.

At this stage of the game I'd be shocked and amazed if the Thunderbolt gets officially past Gingerbread. Shame.

They did officially say they are developing ICS for the Thunderbolt.  I don't think HTC would be that stupid to cancel it.

Prepare to be surprised by "Horrible Telephone Company" yet again.

    • Dedricktaylor

every since I flashed it my phone looses connection a lot. does anyone else?

  • http://twitter.com/jheyneman James Heyneman

Thanks for the file but damn those are some seriously slow mirrors.

Can't get over 50KB/s on my phone or on the office network.

  • Drootz

Anyone tried just updating to the new radios?

And if you did just update the radios has the system prompted you to update the software like the last Thunderbolt release did when just the radios were installed?

  • [SP]JESTER

No get us a mirror to the radios i want them

  • Tyler Chappell

Nice to see they havent forgotten about the ole TB, but I am quite happy with my Full Blown Sense 3.0 ROM, this wouldnt offer me any benefits. I just await the ICS ROMS

  • Havoc70

Official?? Please what a waste...been running SoaB for months so much better than Official junkfest.  Hopefully the new radios will help battery life though

  • Dean Lovering

Can somebody create a usable mirror of this? I've got plenty of bandwidth on my side and to say these downloads are crawling is a vast understatement.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Mirrors here, starting around page 4: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/23308-new-leak-build-21160519-not-ics/

  • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

Added another set of mirrors (mirror link #3).

  • nerdherder

    Hows the new radio?

  • Link

Is this an upgrade or does it wipe everything off the phone and start over?

  • SecuritySix

Still getting random Internet disconnects when the mobile hotspot is on, but works fine with USB tether + PDANet.

  • Rocco225

Can anyone confirm this has fixed the Hotspot disconnect issue? I normally won't mess with ROMs but if this will make my $30/mo. Hotspot usable I will try it.

  • Chuckie2k

Is Verizon going to push this at some point in the next month or so?

the mirrors listed above are pure junk.  incredibly slow downloads and the files are totally corrupted and useless and you cant retry because of download limits.  can someone please post a copy of the zip at a more reliable hosting site.  thanks.

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

If you can recommend a faster hosting solution that can accept files this big (600-800MB), I'm all ears, and I'd love to use them in the future.

  • Hsteward1

    Killed my root

  • FletchGuy

Ok so i downloaded the file I put it on the sd card then popped that in to my phone. I hold power + down volume and now I just go in a loop to the htc green logo splash screen. It never showed it starting to flash. I can get to the bootloader but even with the sd card out I can no longer boot stuck in a cycle of htc screen shut down restart htc screen...Any ideas?

Do you have to download something from all three of the links provided above?

Do you have to download something from all three of the links provided above or just one? Will this work on a Mac?
