If your device is running Android 4.0, you'll be glad to know that Chrome for Android beta received an update in the Play Store just a bit ago that brings a few new features, one of which many users have been waiting for: user agent switching. This means that no longer are you stuck on the mobile site, as you now have the option of choosing how to load sites. Yay!

Also included in this version is:

  • Allow for download of files to the device
  • Complex Text Layout (CTL) and Right to Left (RTL) text support in rendered pages
  • Enable old-style YouTube embed content to be played via native YouTube app
  • Support for country-specific suggested search engines.
  • You can now add bookmarks as shortcuts on your home screen, so you can get to your favorite sites faster.
  • Choose your favorite apps to handle links opened in Chrome.
  • Have a proxy setup for Wi-Fi access? You can now use Chrome with the system proxy configured in Android settings.

Also included in the update is support for 31 more languages, and the beta is now available in every country that has access to the Play Store.

still no GB support? im not interested :D

    • KreeTerry

I seriously doubt it will ever have gb support.  from my understanding chrome for android has many 4.0 only api's.

Sounds like they're reaching feature parity with the stock browser. I suspect it'll be out of beta soon and included as the stock browser in the next version of Android. :D

If they only could add the exit-button to it. Take Opera, take xScope, take Dolphin, take Ninesky and lots of other browsers. I wonder why Google has decided to leave the exit-button out of both of their browsers...

Personally my browsing experience ruins if I need to hit the back-button a million times before I can close the browser.

And before anyone wonders why I need to close the browser instead of letting the OS close it. I'm just used to it. And as long as there are choices that work the way I prefer, I use them. Probably I'm not the only one...

        This. One million times this.

I have the setting turned on for kill the open application when holding the back key. Very helpful for this.

Woohoo. Market links work too! I'm guessing all links will work now. ibcam finally uninstall ics browser+ and set gc as my default browser.

    Where is UA switching option?

Nvm it's only there when you open a new tab..

    • mkln

seems to be "request desktop site" from the dots menu. so I guess no default setting? and by the way, I'd like website-specific UA setting. nobody does that.

      • NuLLnVoiD

Boat browser does that. Try it. It's fast and resource friendly. I saw that it just updated to 3.0 today and is starting to support add-ons like Dolphin.

Oh man, thanks for pointing this out.

You are officially my hero of the day!

  • Kees

Still wandering when they with have a tab bar on the phone like on the tablet version...

Nice. Chrome had kept crashing on/rebooting my NS4G on a lot of the ICS roms I had been running, but this update seems to have fixed that issue on AOKP, so that makes me happy.

  • Raphaël Briand

Is there still no history? Since no-one's complaining about it I assume it's already a feature and I just can't find it.

    • Mduran1023

I couldn't find any history either. Though only a minor annoyance for me...

    • Jason

Hold the back button on your phone, This gives you access bookmarks and history.

  • mgamerz

A new commenting system! Thank god! Also, great update.

  • Zaatour36

I'm gonna re download it now, man without RTL support it was a no,no, for me!

  • Bala

    • Mihai B2

i have the same problem on rom anarkia v.rx5. is terea a workaround?

  • deX

Testing .. DISQUS and the new Chrome. :)

Bah. Looks like you need to have a DISQUS account and you can't login using twitter. Also, DISQUS doesn't work in Opera Mini and Opera Mobile. Why, AP, why did you change something that worked great? :(

  • Jerry Lange

Also it seems a lot faster. I can now close all 15 tabs i leave open in like 3 seconds instead of like 7. because it seemed to partially load them when i was in tab view mode.

  • João Luís

New in this version: now it supports keyboard shortcuts. As a Transformer owner, it is a very important update! Perhaps you should include it in the aricle!

SEE AND SHARE WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YOUR CITY - Picaim

Picaim is a project that aims to become a social network to see and share things that are happening in your city and in the world.
The service is based on sharing geo-located photos of things that are happening in your city.

The great idea is that photos can not be sent by the computer, just for mobile devices, and only at the moment they were captured. This measure helps prevent false information inserted in the social network.

This means, you see what is happening, what the person who took the photo has to say, and where that is happening at the moment what is happening.
You can see content classified by what is happening in your city.

Also you can post anonymously, if you wish to protect their identity to share with the world.

Anyone can see what is happening in your city on our web site, without registration or application for mobile.

The project still has very few users, and we are asking for help to all who possess an android phone, just download the application, test and share with friends in your city.

To check out the project, visit:
    http://www.picaim.com

The application for Android already available in the market!

Help us to share with the twitter hashtag: #PicaimForAndroid

OBS.: If you can not take the picture because of the gps location, try again in an open environment.
