Four months ago, Rockstar games brought one of the most iconic video game titles of all time to Android devices: Grand Theft Auto III. With that, came car theft, trashy hookers, shady criminals, and enough violence to satisfy even the most brutal among us. Fast-forward to today, and Rockstar has announced the release date for yet another iconic title: Max Payne.

The crime-laden world of vigilante cop Max Payne will be landing on iOS devices on April 12th, with an Android release just two weeks later, on April 26th. The game has been fully optimized for mobile platforms and includes HD graphics, high-resolution textures, "Social Club" connectivity, and user-customizable controls.

Rockstar said that it would release a list of "compatible Android devices" in the coming weeks, so we'll keep our eyes peeled for that.

It'll be for Tegra, no doubt.

Why do you assume so? GTA3 works great on non-tegra devices. (As long as a decent GPU is used, like the Mali 400 or a new PowerVR)

Kind of makes me want to play the PC version again :) I love that it's coming to android (and not ONLY iOS as first implied) but... I'm so tired of how normal games control on touch screen devices... it's shameful. Angry Birds works brilliantly because it works with the touch screen... games like this and GTA3 scream a need for a proper controller.

Have you actually played GTA 3 on a decent phone with great touch sensitivity, like the SGS2 or a Galaxy Nexus?

I used to be skeptical of touch controls as well (I mean, yeah there are plenty of badly designed games out there), but when I played GTA3 on my S2, it totally got me hooked. The controls are intuitive and smooth, and works well for the most part. Sure, it's not as good as using a regular keyboard and mouse, but it does accomplish what the game aims to do - entertain the user instantly for a quick and short gaming session.

that's great that we will have another rockstar game available to play on a total of 5 android devices

    • http://ggkthx.org Sumatori-kun

Yes, meaning you have to get an Android device that's actually worth it.

      • billf

do they come stock with your superiority complex?

        • http://ggkthx.org/ Sumatori-kun

Yes they do. Meaning: Stop using shitty Android devices and get a real phone/tablet with a SoC that's worth it.

        • http://ggkthx.org/ Sumatori-kun

Clarification: Shitty Android devices meaning anything with a SoC less than 1GHz and lacking a proper GPU (Mali 400, Adreno 205, Tegra 2, etc.).

the whole idea of buying a device to play a game is really silly and that isn't how it works. there are tons of android devices and people make games to work on them. i want to play max payne so i will buy a 500 dollar device that won't be able to play a game that comes out in a year by the same company? imagine if game consoles worked that way.

        • http://ggkthx.org/ Sumatori-kun

Uhm, that IS how game consoles and computers work.

  • adam

It work great on my google nexus s and stratosphere also. I cant wait for them to release max panye

  • Larry94

Think outside of the box people. GTA3 runs great on my HP TouchPad. You think that is a supported device? hell no. all it takes to get these games working is a simple build.prop change to a device that has a similar SoC as you. easy peezy lemon squeezy.
