I don't know a single person who has Facebook and doesn't check it on their phone. I also don't know a single person who doesn't hate how ridiculously slow the official Facebook app is. Fortunately, Facebook has APIs that allow third-party applications to do everything that you would normally use the official app to do - and it many cases, they do it better. A good example of "doing it better" is Friendcaster fro Facebook, which just so happened to receive an pretty massive update to version 5 today.

Version 5 brings many new features to the app, but the most notable is the all-new interface (which looks absolutely fantastic). Otherwise, the update includes six color themes, real-time push notifications, high resolution photos, faster access to comments, notifications, and status updates; a new checkin interface, and performance/memory improvements.

It's also worth mentioning that if you're a fan of Friendcaster Tab for tablets, OneLouder is scrapping that app as of today. The tablet interface is now part of the regular Friendcaster app, so just grab that one instead.

Friendcaster for Facebook is free in the Play Store, but if you just can't stand the ads, you can grab the Pro version for five bones. Get it!

Now you know at least one of your readers that has a Facebook account and doesn't check it on their phone. I only have Google Plus on my phone and do not want Facebook on there. I only keep my Facebook account alive for people that won't switch but I don't even post to it anymore. I only go on there at times when I'm on the PC to see if someone sent me a message thru it. Google Plus is way better and I don't feel the need to follow things on Facebook because of it.

To be on topic however, when I did use Facebook (before G+) this was the app I would use. It is a lot better than the official in my opinion too.

Those pics make it look Metro-y! D=

Until today, I've always just used the full desktop version on my Xoom's browser. I just tried the friendcaster app though, and it's awesome! It's pretty fantastic looking and more importantly, functional.

I started using FriendCaster just the other day, it was perfect and did everything where the official facebook app failed. My only complaint is that it looked a bit dated, a bit boring. I was already looking at other alternatives, like the better looking faster facebook beta, but this update fixes my only issue completely :)

Just can't spend $5 for a FB app and can't stand ads. Too bad.

Now you know two people. I hate facebook, but keep an account just because you have to look up someone from time to time and can't get on facebook without signing in. Never use it. I'm a twitter man, but I do have google+, which I don't use either. Guess I'm not a social butterfly. I prefer texting the people I really want to stay in touch with, and sending them fantastic MMS on my G-Note.

Does this app integrates facebook contacts with ICS people app?

    • debtac

yes it does, at least on my moto defy cm9 4.0.4 it does. but you may have to go to accounts and sync, and make sure the friendcaster account sync is on

      • Wagner

Yea, worked on nexus S with stock ICS. Now to be perfect it only needs to handle the friend lists on FB the same way G+ handles the circles on people app, so we can chose which group appears on the main contacts.

Now the app actually looks like something. It was always the best fb app, it just looked like something out of 2008. Now it looks great!

Those sneaky bastards! I literally uninstalled Friendcaster 2 nights ago because of the lack of updates. Guess I'll be checking it out again. Thanks for the heads up!

    • Ray

Literally? Good, I thought you just meant figuratively and I was concerned.

  • Tim

I downloaded it earlier and it keeps crashing over and over again. I sent in a report. Hopefully it will help.

Hey Tim, we're working on this issue right now and will have an update out today to fix it hopefully.

  • DFT

Despite notifying the devs a couple of months ago, it still doesn't show photos and vids posted to Groups that I'm a member of. :(

  • LesserCure

Removed the official app after installing this today. The interface is amazing.

A couple of hours playing with the update and it gets worse. Can't create a new private message to a friend, wont send replies, constant C2DM failures in addition to the photo issue I mentioned earlier. Shame. I liked it so much I paid for Pro and deleted uninstalled the original Facebook app. Now I may have to reconsider. :(:(

Great, I realy like the new interface, but it be nice if they would also redesign the icon, it's not as nice as the new gui.

I am an impatient person... getting frustrated trying to figure out how to include a photo when I check-in somewhere... how do I do that!?
