We've been hearing a few rumors about what Samsung had planned for SXSW for a couple of days - supposedly it was some big surprise. We've heard speculations covering everything from the Galaxy S III to an 11.6-inch tablet, but Sammy PR just sent out an email telling us what was really going on. Are you ready for the most anticlimactic news of the year?

It's Angry Birds Space. Yes, we're serious. No GSIII. No 11.6-inch tablet. Just Angry Birds Space on the Galaxy Note (phone).

All of the kerfuffle just for Angry Birds Space?! Seriously, Samsung ? I'm not sure if you guys (or Rovio) got the memo, but Angry Birds is played out, and we're all tired of hearing about it. So, to hold an event just to announce a game that is already way overhyped is just, well, absurd.

If, for some reason, you still can't get enough of those birds, here is a sneak peak at what the Angry Birds Space will have to offer:

Now that you've watched a NASA astronaut speak to you for three minutes like he's addressing a seven-year-old child, aren't you excited?

I'm sure they ruffled a few feathers with this disappointment of an announcement.

    • Ribbys

Indeed, the chickens will come home to roost tonight!

        This is an eggscellent thread

        • Scott Oldfield

I'm pigging out on all these tasty puns. Keep slinging them!

        • Steve

You swines, these puns are just fowl.

  • Marc

Still it looks nice, the gameplay is now more puzzle.

  • MF

The most anticlimactic news of the year? I don't think so... that title goes for the yesterday iPad!

    • Gabba

Quit hating; it's blind hate like this that the isheep pounce on to say how insecure android users are. Love it or hate it, the new ipad deserved it's own announcement, same as the new SIII will deserve it's own announcement

      • Scott Oldfield

I think there's some general consensus about the iPad announcement being anti-climactic (e.g.: http://mashable.com/2012/03/07/new-ipad-did-not-blow-my-mind/). It's not that that the new iPad isn't a formidable piece of tech, it's just less that what people were expecting. Part of the problem being that Apple has set their own bar rather high.

        • Gabba

Ah, I get what you're saying, and I agree. I was thinking MF was just posting another one of those "Apple sux0rz" crap that feeds right into the narrative about android fanboys

    • Mark

Wouldn't that go for the iPhone 4S? So many disappointments it wasn't the iPhone 5 and that it looked identical to the iPhone 4, etc. The one thing I remember from all the tech blogs after the 4S's announcement was the disappointment.

FYI my 2 year son LOVES Angry Birds. You know how most of us get "addicted" to something when young (Mickey Mouse, Cars, Wizard of Oz, Charlottes Web, whatever) well my son is Angry Birds crazy. Loves playing the game on my phone, the wifes phone, my mother-n-laws phone, loves playing it on 2 or 3 phones at once. Loves watching youtube videos about angry birds. Loves his stuffed Angry Birds (8 of them [4 birds 4 pigs), loves the angry birds game (uses a ricochet though not slingshot), his stickers, etc. It's his favorite word. Amazing my 2 yr old knows how to unlock our Android phones, slide over to the 5th home screen, load open the games folder and load Angry Birds, Season or Rio. So he'll be quite excited about a new edition :-)

I'm pretty sure he IS addressing 7 year old children, or at least those with that kind of mindset.......

Damn, what a let down.... Sammy had the chance to pull the rug right out from under that iThing from yesterday and blew it! I know I'm holding off on upgrading my SGT10.1 until the specs 11.6 are released to decide if I'm going with that or not

Anyone in there right mind thinking Samsung would announce a big product at this thing is nuts. SXSW, the f*#k is that anyway? lol. No, they will only announce products at massive blowout events either in a big European city or New York.

    • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com Cody Toombs

SXSW is actually a pretty big deal...for what it's about. It's not a show for large companies to announce new products. If anything, it's for web start-ups to announce that someday in the future they are going to announce something ;) Truth be told, it's really more about programmers, tech bloggers and tech evangelists getting together to bump elbows, plan their next job switch and have fun.

  • mastermind26

    smh at Samsung and Rovio.

Not only are we bombarded with discontent fowl on our phones and pc's and browsers and even FB/G+, but now we're being flung those birds from press announcements.

It was fun at first, but now it is WAY BEYOND sad.

  • Lewis

Angry birds is crap and past its sell by date. There are so many other games that are better, just the chinese and japanese love the crappy game

  • Shockzor

I'm just hoping that they give some information on IVS on the note. I don't care one bit about angry birds. Just give me that ICS!

  • mnguyea

I barely even play it anymore and have the whole Seasons 2011, 2012 plus Rio. It is a tired franchise and it got its 15 minutes of fame.

There only so much in flinging the birds before well...boring. So many other awesome games to play than this now.

    Sorry Angry birds sashay away.

    • Btod

LOL!! I wish we could "like" comments here! Never expected a RuPaul's Drag Race reference on an android blog.

  • gogakhan

I haven't seen the trailer for the ABSpace game before. Although it looks interesting but I think the hype and overhype has killed this game before its expiry date. Plus there are far more games with unique and crazy ideas out there.

For Samsung, what a let down. I guess with the success of SGS2 they think they are like Apple now and will hold their own events to announce their new lineups and such.

  • Zachary Jacob Zblewski

Those birds would probably love to catch a RED HERRING.

    Let's hope so.

  • http://www.buzzfeed.com/theangryluddite/penny-arcade-predicts-the-angry-birds-journey-int-5dn9 Mark

lol. Penny Arcade predicted it to.

I saw this comic like a week or so ago. Thought it was pure hype/joke but maybe they had insider information.

  • http://www.fanboycafe.com Dustin

When I lived in NYC and took the subway to work I played everyday. No more subway rides has equaled no more birds for me.

  • Awesome Sauce

WHO CARES SAMSUNG!!! I can play it on an htc phone or an iphone! First you close the samsung store in NYC and now you are jerking us around with your announcements.

  • Barton

"...supposedly it was some big surprise" - So they told the truth. They never said it will be a _good_ surprise.

    • ari-free

It's a good thing I read through all the comments before posting because I was just going to say the same thing!

  • Adrian

Love the remade theme song XD

  • Ajm Maldnodano

Not that SXSW isnt a great event but i dont think its really the place to announce such big devices

  • http://android.ryocentral.info Ryo

    Oh seriously. Angry Birds? Yawn.
Played Out is the right word. I can't stand it anymore.
It was much fun but... in 5-6 years I'm grabbing it again and thinking about how cool those Retro-games are. But for now... Samsung, come on. Show us real stuff.
