Temple Run could possibly be the most anticipated game to come to Android since... well, ever. We've seen fake after fake after fake hit the Android Market in an attempt to garner downloads from unsuspecting folks looking to grab this iOS hit, and the Temple Run team took to its Facebook page to warn users of these fakes and announce that a real version is on its way. Now, we finally have a release date for the real deal, and it's coming on March 27th.

For those unaware, Temple Run is a runner-style game where the player is faced with many obstacles that must be avoided by either jumping over them, sliding under, or moving to one side of the path to avoid them. Here's a look at the gameplay on iOS:

Only three more weeks!

WASHINGTON, D.C. - March 6, 2012 - Imangi Studios today announced that Temple Run, the Top Grossing App and Top Free App in the App Store in January 2012, will be released for Android devices on March 27. Free to download, Temple Run challenges players to test their reflexes as they race down ancient temple walls and along sheer cliffs. With endless gameplay, players collect coins as they jump, slide and run to escape the evil monkeys guarding the temple while avoiding obstacles.

“We are excited to finally share the Android release date with our fans who have been so enthusiastic and supportive of Temple Run,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios. “By expanding to more mobile devices, we hope to provide the same addictive and fast-paced gameplay to an entirely new group of players.”

The iOS version of Temple Run for iPhone and iPad boasts over 40 million downloads in the App Store since its debut in August 2011.

I watched a friend play this game on their iPhone, and I could not see why this game is so hotly anticipated. Seems like another run and jump game, but maybe I will be surprised when I play it.

    • erek

I thought this game was stupid as any ever. BUT then I played it for more than 1 minute and became addicted. Can't WAIT for Temple Run to come to Android! March 27 couldn't get here soon enough

I played it once, I got bored of it. I really don't see all teh craze about it.

    ZOMG FINALLY!!!!

And this stuff is killing console gaming? oh dear lord.

  • Ronaldo Rameiro

I don't see the charm with this game. I especially don't understand all the hype.

Me either, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

It's just Angry Birds 2012. A simple but fun game that you can pass the time with.

    Now we wait for Instagram...

While it gets less and less interesting for many because the amound ot people who switch to different sharing communites is growing, even on iOS. The brands, abuse of copyright and tag abuse on get's pretty annoying on instagram. Downside when a community gets too big.

It looks like a less fun version of Wind Up Knight :/

    • crackinthewall

Trust me. They play differently. Temple Run is controlled by swiping up, down, left and right and tilting the device while Wind-up Knight is more akin to the typical console game's controls.

Aƶso don't get the hype about this. Running Fred is way more complex

    • Alex C

Just watched the gameplay trailer...I have to agree. I love Running Fred, and it's actually a challenge to string the right combos together. This doesn't strike me as particularly notable, but if it's $0.99 or so, I may give it a go anyway.

  • James Ebby

Running Fred is awesome. Great game.

  • Lorenzo in a Benzo

This game is not that good, and graphically its subpar

  • Deltaechoe

Thank god for desktop computers and those games...my smartphone is too touchy to play games on (pun definitely intended)

The day after the previous article about this, my brother told me that iOS was better... Because it has temple run, and android doesn't.

It looks like it will prove me with sheer minutes of enertainment... But I'm going to download it just to bug him into making up a better reason... like the "battery is better" or something stupid like that.
