Update #1: According to ASUS' Twitter, the Android 4.0 update should begin rolling out in the U.S. tomorrow, February 24th. Yay!

Update #2: ASUS UK confirmed the same date.

After numerous delays and much confusion (mostly due to ASUS Singapore being more out of touch with reality than other regional divisions), ASUS finally started the Ice Cream Sandwich over-the-air update process for the original Transformer TF101 today.

The official ASUS Facebook account stated that the OTA with version number is going to be available in Taiwan first, followed by other regions "soon after." Hopefully, that means the rest of the world will be able to enjoy ICS within the next few days, barring any unexpected issues.

Dear valued ASUS fans,

ASUS prides itself on delivering the best products to end-users, which means that we not only aim to deliver innovative products but also to continue improving the out of box experience throughout their life cycle with regular firmware updates.

Many of our Eee Pad Transformer TF101 users have waited patiently for the promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and we are delighted to announce that the first wave of FOTA updates for TF101 firmware v. started today in Taiwan. The update will FOTA in other regions soon after.

Although we will announce several new innovations at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week, we take great pride in delivering on-going enhancements and support for products that are well into their life cycle.

Thank you once again for your valued support!

    That's the way!!! X)

  • Kevin Luong

Just got my update here in New Zealand (WWE SKU), so rollout might be fairly quick!

  • hassan

Hi Kevin, do you have a link to the update file, or maybe the file name? thanks

  • Ivan Grozni

Anyone rooted... can you pull the update from /cache? :D

  • Jake

Hurray! Just what I have been waiting for! I hope the US roll out starts soon. I have no issue with HC on my og TF, but would like to run ICS for the speed and so I can have CHROME! Been running Chrome on Gnex and I love it!

Kind of sad to read that THEY consider our transformers "well into their life cycle." Jeesh, they have been available here in the states for like, what, 10 or 11 months now? Well into their life cycle? Really? Yeah, I know technology moves fast... but do they have to remind us that the thing we JUST BOUGHT is already obsolete?

    • Ben

Action speaks louder than words. They are releasing ICS for our Transformers so who cares about the words?
From a sales point of view TF101 is well into its life cycle but from a user point of view it's a very good tablet - now being updated to the newest Android version.
Just be happy with what you've got. I know I am :)

  • http://www.academia-nutcrackers.com Sven Enterlein

Hooray! Maybe now all these whine and cheese threads about ASUS not updating the TF101 all across the internet will stop. But I bet the next flood of "ICS doesn't work"-complaints is just around the corner. I for one am very excited (as long as I can keep root). Way to go ASUS!

  • Dr. C

WOW, what I have found is, that things I buy or can buy are already, "well into their life cycle" if not over the hill. I rest assured that that only means they are very stable. The knife's edge is a dangerous playground. My prayer is that when "it" gets here it is usable and sable.

  • Awesome Sauce

YAY!!! The last update we will EVER see for our TF101!! Will the Taiwan update even work on our US of A models??

    • http://gadgetstip.com/iwatch-2-concept-design-looks-amazing/ aatif

I think it is better wait for official US update :)

  • http://www.talltechtales.com Mattias

Sweet! That's about time, looking forward to seeing it over here in the U.S.

  • Darkseider

Just updated my kids Acer A500 to ICS yesterday with the official leak and it FLIES. I can only imagine how nice the OG Transformer will run when Gnufabio does his magic and drops an ICS Revolver build. Life is good.

  • d

Any word for Canada's roll out?

  • Jay

Time to tell the kids i need to see the tablet for a second. Man the thing runs like a dream now. Ics get to work

  • http://portablepirates.com marc

    freaking awesome
i cant wait for custom rom.

  • Jordan

Hopefully "tomorrow" means tomorrow in Taiwan time, which is only in a few hours.

  • James

Im in New Zealand but no sign of the OTA for me. i'm rooted so if someone could tell me where to look for this in the cache once it downloads i'll gladly share it via dropbox or something.

  • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

UK confirmed the same date too!

  • Zc456

Moral of the story: take Asus Singapore's words with a grain of salt.

  • Dude

  • Bert

  • Ben

  • Ben

    • http://techlifeve.tk josu

i'm having the same problem, IDK if it's caused because the rooting process

    • Glen

I also have it. Looking for answer on forums.

  • Jordan

DAM! its smooth like butter. Going to try chrome now.

  • Stephen

    Downloading now in the UK!

  • Stephen

First impressions after upgrade aren't great for me at the moment, my TF101 seems to be on a go slow... had quite a few crash messages for Google+ upon start up. Going to leave it for 30 mins and then reboot, perhaps it is doing some background housekeeping tasks..

  • Stephen

Performance issue seems to have resolved itself, faster booting speeds too, ICS running well.

However have found a few games that seems to crash now on loading eek!

  • EmmaP

Great customer service from Asus here. Really glad I bough the Transformer as I have found Asus to be excellent at troubleshooting and putting customers first.

  • fuzzylogic

Looks nicer, some slick subtle changes <> It has caused my tf101 to freeze/crash 5 times already today. It randomly goes to the asus startup screen, and never resets. I have to hold the power button for a while to shut it down and restart, and then it happens again after a random amount of time (30 min-2 hours). Also, page loading and scrolling in the stock browser, dolphin HD, and chrome are all much slower and glitchy. Lastly, about half of my games and apps won't open; they force close error instantly. I REALLLLY hope this is addressed quickly, given how long we had to wait for the update in the first place. Overall, it seems like it COULD be great, but it currently has the stability and performance of an alpha release; is there any way to go back to gingerbread without rooting?

    • http://www.lindison.com Can8dnSix

Try resetting it to Factory default, seems to have ironed out all the bugs that I was seeing (same as what you posted). L

  • Peter Griffin

Just got it in the DC area

  • Milos

It seems that this update still not cover 3G models so we will have to wait some more time :((

  • marina mia

updated yesterday 25th Feb in Malaysia. Smooth update and it all looks great except for the same random reboots. Left it last night on full batt, woke up to it dead until holding the on button for a bit brought it to life. Batt still full. Hope these are just teething issues cos the rest is just sweet.

  • BigDog12

Update just happened for my TF101 this am and it Rocks!!! now thank you ASUS. Wow we should be running around proud and smiling and laughing at our buddies who have the Samsung tabs with older operating systems. It works as nice now as my Verizon Nexus!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.lindison.com Can8dnSix

I just reset the system; going to see if it makes it more stable and re-install my apps.

  • http://www.lindison.com Can8dnSix

The Google backup is syncing and re-installing my apps, seems to be running a lot quicker.

  • http://www.lindison.com Can8dnSix

Last update, unless status changes, but it seems to be very stable now. Re-sync'd all the apps and just flipping between stuff (like I was doing earlier when it seemed very unstable). TF101 Ice Cream Sandwich update instability seems to be gone (after doing a reset to factory). Would crash when I would try to use email, camera, or various apps, seems to be very stable and performance issues also appear gone.

Settings -> Backup & Reset -> Factory Data Reset

Takes about 20 minutes to complete.

  • Adam

I still do not have the update. Is the firmware check the correct way to check availability?

    • http://www.lindison.com Can8dnSix

Maybe they are updating by batch builds? I have a B7 (at least I think that's what the first 2 of the S/N indicates)?

The update came to me automatically, I postponed it a couple times and installed at Barnes&Noble (took 20 min or so).

  • briansturridge

    excellent/////great news...
