Big Red has been having a difficult time taming the "world's largest 4G network" over the last several weeks, as we've seem more than enough outages occur. Today marks the next installation of Verizon's 'sorry, LTE is down' saga, with users across the nation left without any mobile data connection whatsoever (myself included).

Update: According to Verizon, service has been fully restored.

It's worth noting that these types of outages don't generally affect 3G-only devices, as they handle 3G network connections differently than LTE device do.

There's no word from Verizon as to when we can expect the network to come alive again, but we'll keep you posted as more information arises.

Another reason why I am choosing to wait two upgrade my Droidx to a 4g phone. The droidx has been an awesome phone so I am happy to wait for Verizon to get all the kinks out before putting down anymore money towards their services.

Verizon is attempting to cover its entire 3G footprint plus more in LTE by the end of next year. Their coverage maps show impressive growth in LTE, so it might not take that long. Verizon also wants to phase out 3G and reuse that spectrum, so there is incentive to actually meet their goals of wide 4G coverage
