Welcome to the weekly roundup of the best new Android applications, games, and live wallpapers that went live in the Market or were spotted by us in the previous 2 months or so.

This edition focuses only on new tablet apps or ones that added Honeycomb support. Regular apps and games are coming soon.

The amount of tablet-centric apps in the last few weeks has been abysmal, so I decided to skip the tablet roundup a few times.

Please wait for this page to load in full in order to see the AppBrain widgets, which include ratings and pricing info.

For Tablets

Minor Lords: Archibald & Remus

Archibald and Remus have been kicked out of their castle and now they need to find a home... although they're not the only ones looking for somewhere to live! The two friends tour the medieval countryside, squatting in any empty castles they find along the way but as darkness falls, enemy lords, evil knights and even wild animals are trying to find somewhere to spend the night too. Help Archibald and Remus defend their new stronghold by building a range of crazy contraptions to take out the enemies, including catapults, towers that shoot rabid badgers and swarms of angry bees. Plus, collect gold to upgrade the defences so you're ready to stop the bosses bashing your gates down. It's the perfect slice of medieval mayhem.

Save your creation on your tablet or share it with your friends on your social networks, by email, or via Bluetooth. Rumpus

The first Music Discovery application designed for the Android Tablet. Find info on every album your favorite band has ever made. Discover who their influences are and who they've influenced. Who's in the band? Watch all your favorite videos. Delve much deeper than you've ever imagined.

Why we built this app:

This app was born from a desire to have a place where one could go to discover new music. For a long time now, we felt the process of finding new music was limited to the cr@ptastic recommendation engines of online music stores or the narrow minded playlist of commercial radio. If I heard something I liked, sure I could Shazam it or go to Soundhound, but If a friend recommended something new, we had to do a deep dive into Google, Wikipedia, and YouTube to get a decent feel. If I wanted to Discovr something new but similar to our tastes, all we had to rely on was the autobot of Pandora. No longer do you have to be the passive listener.. This app gives you the control to find and enjoy the music you like.

Art, I'm surprised you missed out on Splashtop Remote Desktop HD - released on November 20, 2011. It's unlike any other remote-desktop app - for starters, you can actually watch remote videos in full color, and play remote games without any lag!

Here's a video of someone playing Skyrim on a tablet and a phone, using Splashtop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leyx3pFzrHY

Now if that isn't cool, I don't know what is.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Splashtop Remote HD is not that new - here's a video of it being used back last summer, and you can find more if you look around: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpEo7pyX8XQ.

The version that was used to play Skyrim (I was sitting in the audience at CES watching it) is Tegra 3 optimized Splashtop THD, and it's yet to be released.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/dextersgenius Shiv

Yes, I know it's not new, but it's in the time-frame this article covers (12/7/11 - 1/29/12). Also, yes I know of Splashtop THD but the video I linked to is not the CES video, it's Splashtop HD.

        • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

OK, but I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to cover if the HD version came out months ago, during or before summer '11 and THD isn't out yet.

        • Adam

          "Released November 20, 2011..."

          "...but it's in the time-frame this article covers (12/7/11 - 1/29/12)"

          ...

        • Michael

Interesting fact: November (11) comes before December (12).

      • Ian Stephenson

How the hell do you optimize an RDP Viewer like that? O.o

  • Noodles

I've been saying for months I needed something to control my tablet from my phone with - now i can lie in bed with my Transformer hooked up to the TV and watch netflix etc :)

Facedroid looks interesting too - friendcaster tablet hasn't been updated in ages

    • asdsada

instead of friendcaster tablet use the regular friendcaster app. the tablet view is integrated into it!

    • http://www.platinumapps.com.au Dave @ Platinum Apps

      Hi Noodles,
We're currently updating facedroid at least twice a week and have some very exciting additions coming over the next few weeks so if you decide to take the plunge and download facedroid, I assure you that you won't be disappointed, and it's only getting better!

      • Ian Stephenson

Twice a week? Isn't that a bit excessive?

        • http://www.platinumapps.com.au Dave @ Platinum Apps

          Hi Ian,
We're working very hard to make facedroid faster, easier to use, include more functionality and we're focused on making it the best Android tablet app available. That requires us to work hard and fast, and doing 2 releases a week means we can get updates out into the hands of users and get feedback on what they like and don't like, and make tweaks quickly so facedroid gets better, faster.

      • Joel

I can't download Facedroid on my Notion Ink Adam tablet running an alpha version of ICS. Android market claims that my device isn't compatible. What can the problem be?

        • http://www.platinumapps.com.au Dave @ Platinum Apps

          Hi Joel,
I'd say it's most likely to do with the ROM you are running, however if you send an e-mail to support at platinumapps . com . au we'll look into this for you.

  • Stennan

Love these kind of articles, though they are a bit hard to find on your site. On the right side of the site you have sections for:

    Apps/Games
    Applications
    Games

Maybe you could add a worthy/best section as well? These posts tend to get buried under all the specific games and applications.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

      Hey,
Check out the Features section in the sidebar, it even has a link for the feed just for the roundups.

  • Nicholas

Can you guys make a video review of Facedroid? I've tried Friendcaster and Friend Me already on my Transformer but both are very buggy. The 15 minutes return window is very small to evaluate this kind of app so a review would be very welcome.

    • Randy Magruder

I just got my refund. I love a lot of things about it, but it ultimately fails in the single most important category: an up-to-date newsfeed. I see my girlfriend's last status on her wall as being Jan 18th, but she updated two hours ago and both facebook.com and the official app show it. So why doesn't this app? Friendcaster had similar problems which is why I do not use that, either. :(

      • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

I've gotten in touch with Platinum Apps about this, they should be responding shortly.

      • http://www.platinumapps.com.au Dave @ Platinum Apps

        Hi Randy,
I replied to your e-mail a few minutes after receiving it to let you know about the issue you are experiencing and what causes it (spoiler: It's most likely due to the security settings on your girlfriend's account). I provided a detailed explanation and links to Facebook API bug reports related to this.
Please get back to me so I can assist with getting this resolved, which I am confident we will be able to do.

        • Randy Magruder

After receiving a very prompt and detailed reply and showing a willingness to work with me on solving this issue, I gladly re-purchased the app. This kind of customer support needs to be rewarded, and it is very promising that the developer is willing to work with customers to iron out these kinds of issues.

        • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

          Platinum Apps is awesome :)

    • http://www.platinumapps.com.au Dave @ Platinum Apps

      Hi Nicholas,
We'd love AP to do a review so hopefully they'll be up for it, but in the meantime, drop me a line on support@platinumapps.com.au when you have a chance & I'm sure we'll be able to work something out.

  • http://rmathur.co.cc rohan

Awesome roundup :D My favorite part of AP!

Me to. Also I like Photoshop app, because I am designer.

  • Sharon Jackson

Went to look at Facedroid on my new Archos 80 G9 only to find it's not compatible despite running Honeycomb and being a tablet. It is compatible with my Nexus apparently

    • http://www.platinumapps.com.au Dave @ Platinum Apps

      Hi Sharon,
Yes for some reason the Archos G9 is treated slightly differently so we need to change some of the app settings to enable facedroid to be downloaded onto your device, however I hope to have this resolved within the next 48 hours so please check back in the Market again soon and hopefully you'll be able to download it all ok.

    • http://www.platinumapps.com.au Dave @ Platinum Apps

Hi Sharon, just letting you know we've just released facedroid v0.9.5 into the Market and you should now be able to install it on your Archos tablet. If you have any issues please e-mail support@platinumapps.com.au and we'll get it sorted out ASAP.
      Thanks for your patience.

      • Sharon

Hey thanks Dave I will go check that out :-)

  • Sharon Jackson

Hi Dave, thanks for that :-) will keep checking.

    • http://www.platinumapps.com.au Dave @ Platinum Apps

You're welcome - I'm actually talking with one of my developers right now and will make sure we get to the bottom of this. Do you mind dropping me an e-mail on support@platinumapps.com.au when you have a sec so I can get back in touch once we've resolved this issue & check that you're able to download it all ok? If not, I'll try to remember to reply here as well anyhow.
