Last week, Sprint rolled out OTA updates that removed Carrier IQ, as well as providing various other bug fixes and enhancements to a few different devices. The Samsung Epic 4G Touch is on the receiving end of a similar update beginning today, with the full rollout finishing its run within 10 days.

Here are the details:

  • Security update (read: Carrier IQ removal)
  • Dismissing multiple calendar alerts
  • Commercial Alert System (CMAS) activated

To see if the update is available on your device, head into the Settings menu > About phone > System updates > Update Android.

Enjoy your Carrier IQ-free handset!

They need an update to fix the physical keyboard on this phone! It drops/skips keys when you're typing! I'm using the garbage right now and it took me about 5 minutes just to write these few lines of words because I'm constantly going back to fix typos! Ugh! So frustrating...

Perhaps you are using the epic 4g? The epic 4g touch does not have a physical keyboard.

    • Levi

If you have an Epic 4G Touch, you shouldn't have a keyboard...

    • Ray

If you're talking about the Epic 4G, pretty much every custom ROM has fixed the keyboard issues.

mine does the same thing i hate it!

Sorry guys, wrong forum. The Epic 4g got an update as well so I must've over looked the touch part after 4g before posting.

I wish they would fix the camera lag issue and the auto light focusing with this camera it's awful I love my EVO 4G the camera was great. Also I wish they would fix the WiFi issue too, I get very low signals at home even when I am close to the router. Any ideas!!!

So poof it is gone? i have a feeling once the lawsuits are over it will be poof there it is! The metrics data is way to valuable. Also I know for the HTC and will assume Samsung they pushed smith micro's product. Have a look at it, dose a lot of what Carrier IQ does. Just saying...

My update took away movable background.

  • DaRkBlo0d08

wow they took nexus and microbes off the live wallpaper >.<

  • Scott

did anyone else notice that the new update provides the ability to carousel between the extreme left and right homescreens similar to the HTC Sense overlay?

  • alvin

I hope they can add an off switch to the camera shutter sound. If you know how to turn off guys let me know please. It is really annoying.

  • Chris

Oh I'm pissed they took away microbes and even the scrolling background.

  • ginaa

wat do you mean by your able to carousel ?? && wat do you mean by they took away the scrolling backround? wat exactly is this update goin to do to my phone ?

Home screen scrolling is contineous from screen to screen, before you had to scroll back from screen seven to screen one.

My personal pet peeve & biggest complaint about the SGS2 is the absurd inability to DISABLE the SHUTTER SOUND ON THE CAMERA!! I noticed that I'm clearly not the only one who is extremely frustrated by this, so I thought Id share a way to fix it permanently!
** Please do not attempt to make any changes to you're device unless you have more than a moderate knowledge level about programming and feel comfortable with implementing changes on your own.**
Go to the XDA-DEVELOPERS FORUMS website (there is also a very useful APP available for free in the Android Market) and locate the topics for Samsung Galaxy S II *making sure you find the posts specific to your device model* (they are not all the same- there are significant differencs between them and using the incorrect information could damage your device). Browse for the topic(s): " Disable Camera Shutter Sound " Choose which method to use based on what you feel is the most understandable or based on other users success- and follow the instructions.
Hope this is helpful and Good Luck!
