Update: For those who don't have access to the Amazon Appstore (or even those who do and prefer not to use it), this game just landed in the Android Market. Go blow some stuff up.

Tower defense. Tower defense. Tower defense. There's definitely no shortage of TD-style games for Android. Don't' get me wrong - TD games are great. There are just a ton of them. Game development firm 11 Bit Studios must've realized that, too, so they went to the lab and carved away at their popular tower offense title Anomaly Warzone Earth and brought it to Android.

The game, once exclusive to iOS, is a twist on modern tower defense games, because instead of protecting your base from slews of rival armies trying destroy it, you are the one trying to destroy the opposing base. Choose the right squad, weapons, and route to blast your way to victory.

The game offers several modes of play and rich graphical content in a post-apocalyptic alien-infested world. It's up to you to ensure our survival by blasting away at the other-worldly beasts.

Gameplay (it's on a iPad, please forgive):

Anomaly will set you back $3.99, but there is a catch, though - for the time being, it's exclusive to the Amazon Appstore. There's no word on whether or not the title will make its way to the Android Market, so we'll just have to wait and see. See the update at the top.

Pretty sweet looking game. I might buy it on the Google Market, but I don't really like buying apps through Amazon. The update process seems a bit hokey and I'd rather have all my paid apps in just one market.

  • edd

Not a fan of the Amazon app-store, and not a fan with how it splits the market (although I know it goes hand-in-hand with choice). But maybe if it comes to the Market I'll grab it. Looks nice!

Between the way that Amazon treats developers and (as others have said here and elsewhere) the app management and update process on the Amazon Appstore is just awful...I won't touch it until it goes to the market. I'm slowly looking through the couple of apps I still use from Amazon and considering buying them on the Google Market just so I can uninstall Amazon...then only install Amazon so I can test an app-of-the-day to consider if it's worth buying.

Come on 11 Bit Studios, we know you want to join the slightly less dark side ;)

I don't agree with anyone else. I love the game and I love the Amazon app store. The best purchase I've made so far this week, which is surprising so close to Christmas

    • http://codytoombs.wordpress.com Cody

Nobody had anything bad to say about the game...Increasingly people are getting tired of the constant news of Amazon abusing another developer, slow updates (at least there's a good reason for that), and the increasingly annoying problems with the appstore application (attempting to hijack installed apps in the updater, constant 'new app' notifications, etc).

  • Leo

Its sad, but I will only buy it when it arrives at the Market.

    • Jake

      It's here now.

  • Daniel

How to close the game? I found no exit game option ....

  • Lewis

So is this basically reverse tower defense?

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

      Yes, with excellent graphics.

  • rugarth-android-man

I don't get it.. the comparisons are Android vs iOS... so I understand when one game is exclusive to iOS and then comes to Android. But then you add this new hurdle of Amazon App Store? What the hell is wrong with Android Market that Amazon needed its own Appstore? Why so much fragmentation in Android people?

    • cosmic

Oh please don't start with the fragmentation garbage, especially in an area where it doesn't matter.

As for why Amazon started their own appstore, because they can. Same reason they have their own ebook store, mp3 store, etc etc. Its all a system they can generate money from (even more so now with the kindle fire going on).

    • Brad

Personally I don't get lovers of Apple's proprietary approach. "Do it our way at out site only...or don't do it at all".

I swear 90% of all iGadget owners are mindless hipster-sheep that can't see beyond what their outdated devices tells them.

This game looks amazing. Hopefully this will encourage other developers to make quality games.

  • Bas

This guy on the icon looks like those guys with Nanosuits from Crysis.

  • Jamalsid

Seems the downloader or the developers servers have issues as no-one can donwload the game data?

I don't suppose anyone knows if you can manually download the game data?

  • tunix

The download issue has been fixed. Please update to the latest version.
