Samsung is chugging right along with their "Next Big Thing" campaign, and has released yet another spot. For those of you who don't know about Sammy's latest ad campaign, it's centered around the Samsung Galaxy S II, and pokes fun at iPhone fanatics standing in line to get their hands on the newest model. Basically, they're letting the consumer know that the next big thing is already here.

The Galaxy S II is one of the best phones on the market right now, and is the winner of our very first Android Police Andy Award for the Best Non-Nexus Phone Of 2011.

The new commercial is centered around the phone's voice-to-text feature (which works pretty well) and the awkward encounter between sales rep and customer, ending in awkward, yet humorous flirtation. Take a look for yourself below.

In addition, below is another (less funny and clever) new commercial centered around the same campaign.

Brandon Lancaster
Brandon says he likes to live life on the edge. By that he means eating ice cream for breakfast and wearing house slippers to class. Aside from all of the ballsy action he partakes in, he's a mass communications student that spends much of his time studying or tinkering with his phone.

Nice idea and all, but can't Siri do the same thing?

    • http://www.androidpolice.com David Ruddock

Agreed. Samsung's commercial is a bit misleading.

      • fep

they are waiting line for iphone 4s with siri, i believe in the commercial they still use iphone 4 without siri..

        • Kevin

iPhones have had voice to text for awhile using apps. Siri is just a digital assistant that includes text. This commercial is misleading

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Ouch, Samsung seems to have stepped into a puddle with this one. The video is pretty funny though, I chuckled a few times (half expecting that she wasn't talking about him and would break that news somewhere towards the end of the clip).

      • Drew Nusser

That's what I was thinking too. Oh well.

    • Jon Garrett

Steve Wozniack said that Siri is a gimmick, does not work well and that Android works better.

Id like to see Samsung put that in a commercial.

  • Ravi Shah

    siri does this too...

    • Ashish

Like the end of the commercial states....."The next big thing is already here"

    • Drew Nusser

The iPhone 4 didn't/doesn't have Siri. What phone do you think they were waiting in line for?

  • Ruben

You know maybe Siri does do this, but I remember a commercial for an iDevice that showed off a nifty notification pull down. And another touting how when you buy a song on iTunes it is available on all iDevices, and on and on. It simply highlights a feature on the phone. Who cares if Siri does it. This commercial is not made for geeks, but hipsters, that can care less about hardware. What does it do, and how cool is it? Thats all they want to know.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Except its main point is a direct comparison to the iPhone which implies that the iPhone doesn't or can't do this.

      • thatguy

They never said it was an iPhone.. It could've been one of those cheap Chinese knock-offs that look the same.

      • http://sites.google.com/site/droidbean behelit

By saying 'already here' aren't they just implying that siri like functionality was avialble 5 years ago?
I didn't get the impression that they were saying iphones can't do it.

        • Brandon Lancaster

By saying that the next big thing is already here, they're actually referring to the Galaxy S II itself.

This is a great commercial. My Droid X (2 years old) has done this since the first day. Apple wants to make things magical, when the truth is they are playing catch up to Android. We call it Voice Actions, they call it Siri... Yawn Apple Fanbois, I am bored.

  • AEF

While I agree with Artem and the likes saying that it was silly to make this ad, I think the overall theme is that the "HUGE FEATURES" that Apple comes out with on the iPhone chances are they are already on a droid.

  • http://portablepirates.com marc

sigh again this is part of android not sammy.
sammy keeps making those commercials like they own that speed to text feature.

and why is sammy attacking apple now ?

  • Manas Kumar

Samsung should never try dirty marketing, they will loose respect from some of existing customers(including me) and not to mention iPhone fans. They should put some more creativity and zero abuse to other platforms in their advertising.

  • droid geek

and it was ok when you FANBOYS mocked the PC in those commercials?!
but now that the shoe is on the other foot, your complaining....GROW THE HELL UP and stick with your overpriced USELESS brick of a phone!

  • P.p

kinda stupid, counting siri, but still really funny.

  • Matthew

Siri only does this 1000 times better. And samsung is pretending that you need a samsung phone, with a physical keyboard, to talk to text? This commercial is a lie in so many ways.

  • quatermass

So why are these two Youtube videos private?
