ASUS isn't the only one upgrading their tablets to Ice Cream Sandwich in the beginning of February - we were running around the South Hall at CES 2012 and ran into Archos, which, among other things, manufactures a whole series of G9 tablets (various combinations of 101 and 80).

Guess what - all of the G9 tablets are scheduled to receive ICS starting the first week of February (they did let everyone know it would happen "in the near future" a few days ago, but we were able to get the most up-to-date timeline today). If you happen to buy a unit before the end of February, chances are it'll still have Honeycomb on it (which you can then update immediately), but pre-updated G9s should trickle into the retail channels within a few weeks after the ICS release goes live.

We did grab a photo of a G9 running ICS 4.0.1, but the version that should be arriving in about 3 weeks will be 4.0.3, which is exactly what we'd expect at this point. Not bad, Archos, not bad at all.

Could you add the specs of the G9 into this article?
I often dont pay much attention to archos tablets, but I can make an exception for ICS.

Same processor/gpu as the Galaxy Nexus. I believe most of them have 512 mb ram except with a model or two having 1 gb ram. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong? I know there's also a model with an actual hard drive.

    • Rob

1GHz and 1.2GHz models have OMAP4430. 1.5GHz models have OMAP4460 (same as galaxy nexus).
8GB & 16GB models have onboard flash memory. 250GB models have a customized 1.8" Momentus hard drive.
All models have 512MB RAM (which I believe is triple channel).

      I can't wait for ICS on my 1.5GHz 16GB 101!

... and they're leaving Acer eating their dust.

Now not nearly as enthused about the new Acer Iconia A700 and A200, given that even ARCHOS is apparently able to deploy Ice Cream, much less ASUS. If Acer's as slow running out ICS updates to their new tablets the way they have been with the A500 and A100 (which did not receive any official mentions of ICS beyond a single supposed release from Acer Poland)... it looks like I'll be buying ASUS.

    • Tutu

But with only 512MB of RAM, there is NO WAY IN H#LL I would buy this! This is like putting lipstick on a pig. Get with the program, Archos!!!

      • http://donthaveone.com John

He said he was buying an "Asus" if thats what your reply was about.

I own a G9 80, and I think the 512 MB of Ram is the thing that effects performance..and the below average wifi reception

No ICS love for their G8 Tablets? Bummer :(

  • cosmic

Well this is a change of events. Typically Archos releases on one version and sticks to that version for the generation (sending tweaks and bug fixes).

Guess even they are excited about ICS.

  • Ivan

    Does that include G9 80 with 8gb?

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

"All G9 tablets" is what we were told, so since G9 80 is a G9 tablet, I'm going to say yes.

  • Charlie

So when is this going to happen? Its not happened in the UK yet!

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Good question. I've pinged ARCHOS about this.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Just got a reply. It said simply:

      We are late.

      :-/

      • Charlie

Cheeers for the info! Fingers crossed it might be soon,

  • Clay

  • Ron B.

It's the 23-2-12 now and I guess the answer from Archos would have to be, "--we are way behind!" or?

  • Har

It's 23-2-12 and in the Dutch (Netherlands) is the update still not produced. Im not angry but on the Dutch website read i Promised sorry for my bad english.

    • Ron B.

Geuen Avoond! (Can't really speak Nederlaans - but if it helps I would understand German too.) I did not quite understand what you were saysing in your message from 23. - 3:26h?

Are you implying the update was promised by Archos for yesterday or what?

I just checked my device for an update right now and there is not one.

      • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

I asked ARCHOS again yesterday, and our PR rep still didn't know the exact date, other than it's delayed further. Says hopefully by end of February, but judging by the history, who knows.

  • Har

I hope it sorry Ron B. for my bad English but Google Translate is bad too... :D

i HOPE that its End of February.
    I have A Archos 101 G9 with 8 GB.
