Last Updated: March 6th, 2012

We know, we told you our holiday giveaway series would feature some of our largest contests to date. And it did - we gave away over a dozen tablets and nearly as many phones to our readers. But we thought we'd start the new year off with our biggest giveaway yet (an international one, to boot) - 10 Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphones, courtesy of our amazingly generous friends at AVAST Software.

This contest is now over. There were over 13,500 entries, making it our largest contest ever by a huge margin (unsurprisingly). Apologies for the long wait - it takes a long time to finalize these giveaways, and with CES I had a whole lot of stuff going on at once. Here are our winners, selected at random:
  1. William Ralls
  2. Vishal Sheth
  3. William Jones
  4. Branden Willetts
  5. Grant Phillips-Sewell
  6. Neil Lund
  7. Nithin Anand
  8. Steve Donaghy
  9. Melina Meissner
  10. Adrian Willings

Congratulations, guys (and gal) - all of you will be contacted for your information in the near future and shipped 10 brand new Galaxy Nexuses!

Everyone else - keep participating and stay tuned to Android Police so that you don't miss our upcoming giveaway announcements. You can follow AP on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and RSS.

avast! Mobile Security

You may know AVAST as the company that bought the rights to the best Android anti-theft app around, Theft Aware. AVAST has integrated all the awesome functionality of Theft Aware (including root-level installation and features) into its brand-new Android mobile security suite (along with a ton of other stuff), avast! Mobile Security. It's one of the best Android security apps available - and it's 100% free. Check out our review of the app here, and hit up the Market to download it. While we're extremely grateful for AVAST's contribution to this contest, we wouldn't need a promotion in order to recommend their software - it really is top-notch.

Coming from someone who's usually skeptical of the need for such applications, I have to say, avast! Mobile Security is an exceptionally useful security suite that contains so many features and tools that it seems almost silly not to use it. Even if you don't want virus or malware protection, the anti-theft features are so robust that the rest of the app is really just gravy - heck, you don't even have to use the rest of the app. You can even uninstall it and the anti-theft protection features will still work just fine.

The Prize

The Galaxy Nexus is a phone that needs no introduction - it's the hottest Android device on the market right now. If you win, you can choose between either the Verizon (LTE) or international unlocked (GSM) version, regardless of where you reside. 10 winners will be selected, each receiving a Galaxy Nexus.

Gaze upon the Ice Cream Sandwich goodness.

Also, here are some specs:

  • 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor
  • PowerVR SGX540 GPU
  • 1GB RAM / 32GB internal storage (16GB for GSM unlocked version)
  • 4.65" 720p Super AMOLED PenTile display
  • 5MP rear camera (with 1080p video), 1.3MP front
  • 1,850mAh (LTE), 1,750mAh (GSM) battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (no UI overlay)

How To Win

There are three methods, and each method counts as an entry, increasing your chances to win for each method used. You must complete at least one of the methods as part of step one (remember, completing all three will triple your chances), and you must complete step two.

Step 1

Crazy! @avast_antivirus and @AndroidPolice are giving away ten (10!) Galaxy Nexuses http://bit.ly/AP-AVAST-GN. <Your own custom message here>

  • Like the Android Police and avast! antivirus fan pages on Facebook. No need to leave a comment on either fan page, simply liking will do the trick. If you're already following both, simply proceed to Step 2 below.

Step 2

Fill out this simple form so that we can get in touch with you if you're the lucky winner. (note: you must link to your entries from Step 1 as instructed in the form in order to be eligible. We will not count persons who simply submit a name and email address with no links.)

The Terms

The giveaway starts immediately and runs until 11:59PM PST, Saturday, January 7 after which the winners will be chosen randomly and notified via Twitter, Facebook, Google+, or email.

This is an international contest - check the eligibility list in the full contest rules below to see if your country is listed. One entry per person for each method is allowed; entering multiple times through the same method will not increase your chances of winning.

    It looks smarter than me...

  • Marcin K

I do have to say, love the Google Docs form. Nice clean way of keeping track of all the entries. Plus, for a contest like this, its a nice way to see who really wants to work for it.

  • Cvitan Grguricin

I have a HTC Hero that has a faulty touch screen. A new Nexus would be a perfect Christmas present :)

  • Tiago Bento

Even if you can´t support all countries, I applaud the effort in making the contest international, good job, Android Police! :D

  • MicroNix

It would be so sweet to win this. Not only have I been totally jealous of all the Nexus talk and wishing my old device didn't break early forcing me to get something else before the Nexus came out, I have been a HUGE supporter of Avast for years.

Great story (one of many) of my brother-in-law who bought a brand new PC. He called me up and said while overall he was pleased with the PC, it was slow out of the box. I went through some cpu and memory stats with him and traced a good amount of resources used by the AV that came with it. I walked him through removing all of it and then had him get Avast and install. After we were done, he said he couldn't believe how fast the machine was now.

Another thing I like about Avast is that it stops malicious website traffic BEFORE it gets to your hard drive. Unlike the "well known" AV solutions that tell you that you are infected and then because the virus exe is running that it can't remove it, Avast stops it before it infects. There really is no better AV solution I could think of to pick. Light weight, doesn't get in the way and does its job well (and no, I don't work for Avast, its just THAT good)

  • MicroNix

BTW, my tweet that can be traced to my application :)

A very similar contest from Avast is running independently from there facebook page. That contest was open from December 22, 2011 and would run till January 22, 2012, winners will announced by February 29, 2012.....
It never mentioned androidpolice anywhere on there page.

Strange... How come this androidpolice contest is also sponsored by avast?

    • sgtguthrie

Maybe avast bought (get this) 11? 12? 13? And maybe they have followers at places (get this) other than Android Police?

      LMFAO!!! ;-)

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Our contest is independent of the one Avast is running on their Facebook page. All those calling it fake don't know AP too well. I'll finalize the contest later on today - CES and my job took priority, but now it's time to announce the winners.

      • Razor

        I believe in you lol

      • Anon

The contest here mentions one line ", courtesy of our amazingly generous friends at AVAST Software." So how is this contest independent from the one by Avast on Facebook.
And if Avast is sponsoring this, why cant we find anything about this on Avast site?

        • sgtguthrie

So you're saying Avast is incapable of sponsoring a giveaway on Android Police (providing devices), and running one of their own on Facebook? Seriously? Stop trolling the nice people who are giving away free devices! Look at all the past contest articles, and you'll see updates with winners listed! Just give it up already! STOP TROLLING!!!!!

If you want to see something about it from avast, check their Twitter account. They tweeted the contest...

        • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

I'm not sure what isn't clear - this contest is separate from the one AVAST is running on their own FB page. They've dedicated 10 phones to the contest you see here, and it's separate from all other contests.

Anyway, hope this calms you down already: https://blog.avast.com/2012/01/03/win-a-galaxy-nexus-from-avast-and-android-police/

  • Razor

I don't know but they better hurry up. Their updates are clogging my twitter timeline and I shall like to unfollow if I don't in lol!

  • MicroNix

    The suspense is killing me!

    • nocturnhabeo

wow that is some intense suspense

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

The winners will be drawn within 24 hours. I finally have a day off work today.

      • Razor

I always believed...with all my heart & soul!
Please give me the phone :( I beg of you!!!

  • KK

You don't have to respond to the fake allegations AP...regular readers will definetly know it is true....we beleive in you and your news...!

  • Padmapriya

Cant take it anymore! :-( suspense is killing.....

  • Mr. Dr. Boss Sr.

Hope the eventual winners enjoy their new Galaxy Nexus :)

  • halninekay

    Patience is the key :D

    @KK is right!

  • Rohit Prasad

I really wish to win this phone.

  • Luli

Cmon guys, i really need this phone

  • John Kow

    :D Patience is a good virtue :D

  • Uditvanu Das

Patiently watching from the sidelines. Daily updates from AP! Cant believe people randomly started accusing the contest of being a sham. Talk about sour grapes :P

  • Daniel

Oh yeahh Im finally going to find out that I won. .good luck to me and the rest

  • Sean

Woot. Seriously excited now! We're getting closer to announcement time!

  • Skriger

If you complain, your entry should be removed :D

    • sgtguthrie

Agreed! I can't believe people can complain and call it fake when it's a free contest open to anyone (from included countries of course). We live in a society where too many people have a sense of entitlement. Why do so many people think they're owed something?

Thanks Android Police, most of us appreciate you!

  • Razor

There are so many kiss-asses on this board.
    It's hilarious.
None of us will win it. Most likely go to people not on this board lol!

    • wirbly

      You are adorable.

      • Razor

I love Android Police, I would give my right testicle for them...for a phone bwhahaha

  • Appu

stop pipa and sopa!! who won by the way?

  • WTF

Um, plenty of time tweeting but not enough time spent sorting the winners...HURRY UP

  • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Here we go - the winners are up. Congratulations to 10 lucky owners of brand new Galaxy Nexuses!

As usual, we'll ask every winner to post a photo holding the Nexus and update the post when we get them.

P.S. Not everyone can win, unfortunately - I know many of you had high hopes, but such is life (there were over 13,500 entries).

    • Mike L

The Google+ link goes to an Art Russ. That is not the correct G+ account we were supposed to add to circles during the contest.

Unless this was a link error in your post of the winners...

      • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Oh, I have to update the link in my winners message - the right one is linked everywhere else in the post and the site. Thanks for pointing this out.

      • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

        [SQL] UPDATE `wp_posts` SET post_content = replace(post_content, "111991876596496628445", "103876278794381402383") WHERE `post_content` LIKE '%111991876596496628445%' AND `post_type` = 'post'

        Affected rows: 66
        Time: 1.250ms

        Ahh, much better.

    • Edmund

Im so so sad right now that I did not win the Nexus.. but.. your comment somehow made me feel a little less miserable. TQ? :)

  • Daniel

Congratulations to all the winners!! Unfortunately I wasn't one of them, but it still doesn't mean I'm not gonna keep focusing on getting my hands on a galaxy nexus :)

  • KK

    Congratulations to the winners!!!

  • Topgun

Dammit, thought I had a real shot...ah well phone sucks compared to the razr anyway.

  • Mr. Dr. Boss Sr.

    I'm such a loser..

  • halninekay

  • jeremy

I won an LG spectrum on twitter and as soon as I got it I got a guy to trade his 1 week old gnexus with extended battery straight up! I got lucky because he was an apple fan and didn't like gnexus!

    Congratulations to the winners!

  • Graham

*The sound of me biting my own ankle in frustration

Ah well. Congrats to the winners. I'm happy for you, really. SO HAPPYARGARSHSARTFFFF

  • Lorenzo F

Thanks for the lottery, you're doing a good job on this site.

I'm wondering if all the free advertisings that web companies gain from common users publicly sharing stuff for the hope to win some nice gadget, is really worth the game.

The internet is heavy polluted by ads everywhere, the're becoming a real hassle during information retrieval.

If I'd won I do not know if I would have shared this opinion publicly here, btw I think I'm not contributing again to all this rumour.

  • http://www.arzbhatia.com Arz Bhatia

Aw man! I lost! Anyway, congratulations to all the winners .. :)

  • Noct

    BALLZ i didn't win

  • http://www.thefoodspot.com William Jones

    I can't believe it, I won!

I really dig Android Police. Thanks for hosting the contest!

I've been wanting to upgrade my Nexus One for a while but wouldn't settle for anything less than another Nexus phone. This is the best one yet!

I'll report back here when I get it! Thanks again and congrats to the other winners :)

  • John Walsh

Well if you guys still want to win, http://wantwantwant.it/ is giving away one
