We know, we told you our holiday giveaway series would feature some of our largest contests to date. And it did - we gave away over a dozen tablets and nearly as many phones to our readers. But we thought we'd start the new year off with our biggest giveaway yet (an international one, to boot) - 10 Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphones, courtesy of our amazingly generous friends at AVAST Software.

This contest is now over. There were over 13,500 entries, making it our largest contest ever by a huge margin (unsurprisingly). Apologies for the long wait - it takes a long time to finalize these giveaways, and with CES I had a whole lot of stuff going on at once. Here are our winners, selected at random:
  1. William Ralls
  2. Vishal Sheth
  3. William Jones
  4. Branden Willetts
  5. Grant Phillips-Sewell
  6. Neil Lund
  7. Nithin Anand
  8. Steve Donaghy
  9. Melina Meissner
  10. Adrian Willings

Congratulations, guys (and gal) - all of you will be contacted for your information in the near future and shipped 10 brand new Galaxy Nexuses!

Everyone else - keep participating and stay tuned to Android Police so that you don't miss our upcoming giveaway announcements. You can follow AP on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and RSS.

Update #1: And here are Adrian and Nithin with their prizes:

avast! Mobile Security

TAavast

You may know AVAST as the company that bought the rights to the best Android anti-theft app around, Theft Aware. AVAST has integrated all the awesome functionality of Theft Aware (including root-level installation and features) into its brand-new Android mobile security suite (along with a ton of other stuff), avast! Mobile Security. It's one of the best Android security apps available - and it's 100% free. Check out our review of the app here, and hit up the Market to download it. While we're extremely grateful for AVAST's contribution to this contest, we wouldn't need a promotion in order to recommend their software - it really is top-notch.

Coming from someone who's usually skeptical of the need for such applications, I have to say, avast! Mobile Security is an exceptionally useful security suite that contains so many features and tools that it seems almost silly not to use it. Even if you don't want virus or malware protection, the anti-theft features are so robust that the rest of the app is really just gravy - heck, you don't even have to use the rest of the app. You can even uninstall it and the anti-theft protection features will still work just fine.

The Prize

The Galaxy Nexus is a phone that needs no introduction - it's the hottest Android device on the market right now. If you win, you can choose between either the Verizon (LTE) or international unlocked (GSM) version, regardless of where you reside. 10 winners will be selected, each receiving a Galaxy Nexus.

2011-10-21-17h07_013

Gaze upon the Ice Cream Sandwich goodness.

Also, here are some specs:

  • 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor
  • PowerVR SGX540 GPU
  • 1GB RAM / 32GB internal storage (16GB for GSM unlocked version)
  • 4.65" 720p Super AMOLED PenTile display
  • 5MP rear camera (with 1080p video), 1.3MP front
  • 1,850mAh (LTE), 1,750mAh (GSM) battery
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (no UI overlay)

How To Win

There are three methods, and each method counts as an entry, increasing your chances to win for each method used. You must complete at least one of the methods as part of step one (remember, completing all three will triple your chances), and you must complete step two.

Step 1

And/Or

Crazy! @avast_antivirus and @AndroidPolice are giving away ten (10!) Galaxy Nexuses http://bit.ly/AP-AVAST-GN. <Your own custom message here>

And/Or

  • Like the Android Police and avast! antivirus fan pages on Facebook. No need to leave a comment on either fan page, simply liking will do the trick. If you're already following both, simply proceed to Step 2 below.

Step 2

Fill out this simple form so that we can get in touch with you if you're the lucky winner. (note: you must link to your entries from Step 1 as instructed in the form in order to be eligible. We will not count persons who simply submit a name and email address with no links.)

The Terms

The giveaway starts immediately and runs until 11:59PM PST, Saturday, January 7 after which the winners will be chosen randomly and notified via Twitter, Facebook, Google+, or email.

This is an international contest - check the eligibility list in the full contest rules below to see if your country is listed. One entry per person for each method is allowed; entering multiple times through the same method will not increase your chances of winning.

Great another contest only winable by joining some stupid social network or tweeting something asine. Leave me out.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Some of our giveaways are social, some aren't - feel free to not enter the ones you don't feel comfortable entering.

      • Imran

If India then why not Pakistan? Both are neighbouring countries. This makes me sad that I can't participate.

        • Alla Ho Fuckber

becoz Terrorists are not allowed. its what you get for being a Fuckistani

        • Gaurav Kishore

Maybe its got to do something with the laws in Pakistan, they probably didn't get the permits to spread it to Pakistan as of yet

        • Steve

@Alla Ho Fuckber Wow, what an ignorant response. I'm glad my children aren't American.

        • Steve Webster

@Steve (not me) - I would think your response is almost as Ignorant as his. Your judging a whole country on some idiot online. Congratulations.

        • http://neepasharma.wordpress.com/ Neepa

Yea you right. Though I'm an Indian, but I wouldn't like it if such discrimination happened here. Quite sick of this guy All Ho ****ber! Seriously! Not every Pakistani must be a terrorist, just as not every Indian is poor and malnourished, and not every American think about sex all day!
But Imran the reason why the contest is not running in Pak maybe due to some technical reasons, or probably it might not be possible to deliver the gifts there!!

    • Jimmy Chen

Good, thanks for increasing my chances of winning.

      • Jon Garrett

        +1 mine too. :-)

    • Johny

Exactly! I don't care what the Giveaway is. No way, I'm joining any social network!

      • http://pitris.net PiTRiS

i dont get this fear of SN... you know, that you already got a profile there even thou you did not sign up, right? :) they get data on you on every site which uses some of their api ;) its same with google and getting search results which best fits "you" :)

        • http://stephenbelanger.com Stephen Belanger

It's not a fear of social networks, it's a disdain of companies expecting us to do their marketing for them. It's annoying and spammy.

        • Wam31

"they get data on you on every site which uses some of their api"

Or not... That's what Ghostery is for ! Disables every f... API ;-) (well, A LOT !)
(Direct side effect : saves loading time and bandwidth)
Plugin's available for Opera, FF & Chrome !

Anyway, thank you AP for opening this give away to France ! At last, one I can try to win. I said try !

  • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

We've been slowly opening up the contests to more countries and territories - this contest is the most open one yet.

    • Matt

Although you still don't have Indonesia the 4th most populous country in the world! That said, if by chance my name does pop up I also have mail boxes in the US and Singapore so don't count me out...

      • http://cahya.legawa.com Cahya

I would agree, I've been promoting and wrote about avast! for many years in Indonesian native language, and for all I know - avast! products are very welcomed in my country - including when I wrote about the new avast mobile security - some of my blog readers having interest in trying avast mobile security on their android phone, or even wrote about it later in their blogs.

I think, avast! has a lot of (enthusiast) users in Indonesia, and don't forget Indonesia has a lot of Android user too.

I don't know the reason, but truly I bit disappointed if Indonesia is a forgotten country as huge potential market for Android application products.

  • Jason Galvan

I'm entering just to say I tried.

This is the only way I can obtain a Galaxy Nexus. AT&T is too lame to sell it subsidized and I am NOT forking over $800. I have been trying to win this beautiful Android masterpiece since it launched in October. Thank you Avast and Android Police.
I must say that you have an excellent contest entry system going for you.

    • David Ruddock

      Nope, sorry. :\

  • ralph

here's hoping I win this time!

  • sadArgie

    Why not Argentina?

    • David Ruddock

We try to include as many nations as possible, but some countries provide inadequate English-language legal information regarding the holding of promotional contests, or have prohibitive shipping costs.

In the case of the latter, we've found shipping to some countries in South America can be as much as $400 for a medium-sized package, a cost we don't feel is fair to make our sponsors liable for. Additionally, many South American countries have extremely high taxes for imported electronics, something the winner could be liable for. Would you want to pay $370 for winning a "free" Galaxy Nexus? We doubt many people would accept that package if that were the case. It's unfortunate, but the laws of many countries prevent us from making them eligible, as you can see.

      • Roberto

I think most people in Argentina who wanted a Galaxy Nexus would be more than happy to pay 370 for it (specially because its NOT sold here, and there is one SUPOSED guy who says will eventually sell it for 1400 :P)
Too bad i followed step1 on its 3 options and step2 before reading further :P

If we are from Argentina, but have Family or friends in, say, USA, are we still out ?

  • Shinrow

    YAY ! That's simply awesome !

  • http://artisancave.com Luis Gonzalez

i want to win! gsm unlocked don't care for verizon.

  • Nicholas

I always get so excited with these contests just to find out that Brazil is not part of the worldwide definition by you guys.

    • http://pharaohtechblog.blogspot.com Conan Kudo (ニール・ゴンパ)

Brazil has laws that make it difficult to send devices that weren't produced in Brazilian factories to Brazil. Unfortunately, that means few contests will offer devices to Brazilian people.

what is good use of keeping worldwide most of the winners are from UK or US...please give others a chance...

    • Pawnty

It just shows that the majority of the people who enter are located in the UK or US. seeing as this is an English blog it does make sense. The contest is open to a lot of countries where a lot of people there don't speak English so they likely don't come to this site, but rather to another android blog in their own language.

I live in Canada and would LOVE one of these by the way :D I'm halfway through my 3 year contract and my phones age is starting to show =\ would love one of these to pull me through until the end :D

    I WANT THIS SO BAD.

  • RF

Dear Android Police, I'm sorry for asking the same question again, but is it still acceptable if one is using packet forwarding service like Shipito.com?
The prize, if won, could be sent to a valid US address at Tualatin, Oregon (which is uniquely linked to the winner's Shipito account), then Shipito would notify him/her of incoming packet and then ship the prize to the original address at his/her OWN cost.

Now don't count me in on the giveaway, I'm just saying that there's a workaround for those who really are dying to get this phone but whose country isn't listed.

    • David Ruddock

The package must be shipped to a residence or a private PO box in the name of the winner (or the name of a family member) in one of the eligible countries. We will not ship to forwarding services, sorry.

      • Edward

can it be shipped to the business address? where the person works at?

        • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

          Sure.

  • Clint Haynes

    Yet another chance, Thank You!

  • Daniel silva

Great contest. One of the best phones on the market.

  • Joseph

...Did I win yet? Oh... not yet Jan 8th .... :(

  • sgtguthrie

I don't understand how so many people can get upset that their country isn't included. If your country is so heavily populated with Android users, do you not have your own contests? If so, do they include the USA? I doubt it! Many countries are simply not included because it wouldn't be worth it even if you did win because of import taxes!

Thank you Android Police and the rest of the sponsors for putting on these contests. I certainly appreciate it! (Even though I'll likely never win...lol)

  • http://www.kevinbarrier.com Kevin
