Everyone knows and loves Dropbox, and with build 1.3.0.6, its Android version is about to get even better. For now it's but a preview -- a "forum build," by official Dropbox terminology -- though we'd expect that to change soon, as in my experience it seems quite stable.

The main addition here is "optimization" for Android 4.0, presumably consisting mainly of performance tweaks. Additionally, the update features:

  • support for foreign languages
  • quick offline access to files ("favorites")
  • the ability to bulk upload photos and videos
  • the option to rename files and folders
  • single-tap access to all file and folder actions
  • an improved gallery
  • uploading from and exporting to local storage
  • the obligatory bug fixes

Interested? While the update isn't yet available on the Market -- it is, again, just a preview -- it is downloadable from Dropbox's forums; if you're interested, just hit up the source link to get started.

here's a hint for anybody updating their DropBox app.. backup or save your device's DropBox folder first. i lost all my data in that folder.. again. just need to resync.

  • Adam

love the latest dropbox. pretty nice.

3 Dropbox referral links..HA! Did they server you any good Jaroslav? :)

The word Dropbox is auto-linked and benefits the Dropbox profile that the whole AP team uses. Jaroslav didn't add his links into the post.

"quick offline access to files ("favorites")" I have to wonder if this allows for offline edits to say, text files. Last time I tried to edit a text file offline and dropbox couldn't upload the changes it just threw an error stating it couldn't upload then dropped the changes I made without prompting me to upload later.

    • Tony G

Yeah, now it will remember the need to save the changes, whether or not the file is a favorite, and it will send the changes to your Dropbox the next time you have a connection.
If it doesn't do that, let us know in the Dropbox forums. Thanks!

It says bulk upload photos and videos, what about other files? PDF specifically?

    • d3vkit

Ah I never came back to write that yes, it does upload anything, including pdfs.

I'm having an issue with this version, I'm not seeing the new UI, I'm seeing the old one, altough the version number is correct.
I'm on Froyo, could that be it?

    • http://twitter.com/djrits Ritesh

Maybe. But why are you still on Froyo? o_O

      • LeoB

Because I have a Motorola Defy. and I'm not going to get CM7 now, I'm waiting for CM9

  • LeoB

really? you'r spamming your dropbox account here????

Dropbox blames poor Android tablet support on... you guessed it.. Android... https://plus.google.com/u/0/109118911280249779106/posts/YZoeHRo6B9K
I'm so sick of this reasoning.. I want to hear what "Features" and why others who make quality android tablet apps seem to get around them.. or how we can get them included in android, etc.
