PR-ASUS-Eee-Pad-Transformer-Prime-front-Amethyst-Gray_thumb1

Update 12/18/11: It's back again - all other variants are still showing the "sign up for availability alerts" message.

Looks like Amazon may be gearing up to start (re)taking pre-orders for the Transformer Prime, with the 64GB version in champagne being the first one to make its way back to the site. As you may already know, Amazon started taking pre-orders several weeks ago, but abruptly stopped (no reason has really been made clear as to why) and ultimately ended up cancelling many users' orders.

Much like the original Transformer, the amount of demand for the Prime has been overwhelming, and ASUS has been struggling to keep up with production. There are rumors floating around that the Prime has been delayed due to a Wi-Fi bug, but we can assure you that this is just not true - the Prime is still set to release on the announced date of December 19th.

As usual all this is US only and and of little interest to 95% of the world's population.

We're a U.S.-centric blog when it comes to certain things, if you haven't figured it out yet. 75% of the visitors and 95% of the writers are from the U.S.

It would be kind of hard to find things interesting to 95% of the world's population seeing that only 70% of the the world's population doesn't use internet...

But back to the topic, I don't see where to pre-order, it just says notify when available.

    1. Persuade amazon.com to ship to UK.
    2. Persuade HMRC to forego duty and tax.
    3. Profit!

    • 40cal

The UK?? They don't even ship the 64 Gb model to Canada.

    • Jon

I'm in the UK. I pre-ordered 64 Gig gray model and have it the shipping address to my dad's house in America and then he is sending it here. Total price so far ... 380 pounds. :)

  • Nick

So lame.. after they cancel my preorder (From within a couple hours of listing) they put it back up again before release..
    lame..

  • Ryan

Thanks for the heads-up, just pre-ordered from Amazon. I had the grey version ordered, but looking at some videos, it looks more purple than grey.

Looks like your message was received by the rest of the 5% of the world...haha

Hate when people bash on Americans, just jealous.

Everything for USA :) LOL i am not jealous. don't worry :)

IF it makes you all feel better I sent my Xoom back because other countries were getting the sd card fix before US customers. Motorola would not even commit to when it would happen (it has by now i think).

Went with Transformer and never looked back.

  • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

The pre-order is gone now again. Congrats to all who got in.

    • Que

I KNOW!!! Im JUST seeing this and I went to Amazon and noticed theyre already gone

  • jbona3

Is the "Champagne" a gold color or more a silver color? From the pictures on the website it looks much closer to silver than gold.

Now that Amazon started taking orders again, it appears that Asus did recognize the WiFi range issue for early Prime units, and quickly took action to fix it. It would have caused a delay for about 10 days to two weeks in production, thus, with fewer units available for pre-orders as expected.

That's why Amazon canceled some pre-orders a week or so ago. Apparently, the production of fixed Prime is running normal again, and Amazon and other sellers are starting filling their warehouses for the 12/19 official sale date.

I placed my Amazon pre-order early so I believe I am in the early queue (didn't get canceled by Amazon, which is a good sign) and will get my unit soon after 12/19.

    Yeah!

Mine Shipped on 12/17/2011 with delivery scheduled for 12/22/2011! Merry Xmas to me!

I feel like, it's still priced a little overboard byitself and with the keyboard. Also, there has to be an option to connect an alternate keyboard dock. Customization is sometimes gud.

    • http://www.mdknight.net Ish

I disagree with the over-price comment, but to each his/her own. As for the keyboard, there are 3rd party bluetooth keyboards you can use instead. Some are even made specifically for tablets with a shelf-like spot to hold the tablet while you type. I think Logitech makes one of the better ones.

PC World in the UK have a grey and gold 32GB for pre-order, but I'm not so sure if I'll preorder or even get it
£499 is a lot of money, and I want a tablet which will do me for years and years, with it being quad core it will, but price wise...

At times I look at the iPad 2 and think what a fantastic produce for the price.

  • mike

Amazon wouldn't even ship it to Alaska on first opening of preorders I was mad. I missed my spot in the queue because of it.

  • http://www.mdknight.net Ish

I just hope the 64GB Gray one makes it out soon. It still reads "after December 25" on my account. You would think that they'd at least update the order with an estimated shipping date by now.

    PS
Feel free to let me win a keyboard dock for mine. (Gray) Ha. I just can't afford it right now.

  • fonseca898

Those complaining about US only can always use a reshipping service and have it sent anywhere in the world.

    • Paul

Are there any good reshipping services you can suggest?

    • PapaWhisky

I pre-ordered the 64GB grey from Amazon and was lucky (?) enough not to be cancelled. My order still says to expect delivery on or around January 6th.

I keep checking my email though. A watched pot never boils....

  • Di C.

Just ordered my Asus Prime yesterday. Anticipated delivery is March-Amazon. I hope it will be earlier but I'll wait. It is worth it! SD card slot+USB+HDMI too - Just W O W!!! I want this to last me a long time with it's quad core so waiting a month is no big deal.
