SamsungEpic4GTouchFront-550x550

Update: If your device received the update but didn't successfully install it, a fix is on the way. There's no official word as to when it will be available, but they're shooting for sometime next week.

Looks like Sprint started pushing a small OTA update to the Samsung Epic 4G Touch that fixes a couple of quirky issues:

  • 4G Sprint Hotspot disconnects when in a phone call
  • Radio loses signal and may require power cycle

The update is rolling out in stages and will hit all devices within the next 10 days. To see if the update is available on your device, head into Settings > About phone > Software Update.

Thanks Mike and Anthony!

It's about time! I can't tell you how many times I would just want to chunk my phone out the damn window because of how many times I had to reboot because of the radio. I tried 2 different roms and they hardly worked. Hopefully this will work.

I completely agree with you. The epic is the best device I've ever owned, but the radio on this bad boy pisses me. I'm always getting error messages when I send a text... Wth.

I don't have the navigation you listed on my Epic 4G Touch: "Settings > About phone > Software Update"

Instead, I have: "Settings > About phone > System Updates" then am presented with the choices "Update Firmware, Update Profile, Update PRL, Update Android". Which should I be trying to update?

update android but not everyone has it yet

    • John

Thanks drksilenc, I ended up finding it on another site and you're correct. Not available for me yet...

Not sure bro. Can't say I've experienced that problem. Good luck though.

It was pushed to my GS2 this morning, I didn't have to go menu-hopping to look for it. Took a few minutes to complete and there were no bad side-effects.

There is one known (major) negative side effect to this update: while it fixes the LOS issue, it also has the neat little unintended consequence of completely disabling all Android encryption options. They don't just get greyed out, they disappear completely. If you're already encrypted, watch out because your phone and SDcard will automatically decrypt without warning, which will almost certainly (as it did for me) result in data loss. I lost everything on my SDcard.

I was promised an update from Sprint service yesterday regarding how they intend to move forward with this, but I still have not heard back from them this morning.
