Verizon only announced the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and 8.2 a few days ago, and now both devices are available on VZW.com. If you're not the online-orderin' type and can wait through the weekend to pick up this ridiculously-named device, then a quick trip to the closest VZW store on Monday (12/12) will land one in your hands.

Just bought mine in a store! :) Awesome!

Can I ask why? I'm being sincere and don't mean to be rude. Is it about Motorola? 4G? If you can get the Transformer Prime soon at $130 less for the 32GB model, and there are lots of tablets out there for a good deal cheaper, this doesn't seem like a good deal for a tablet UNLESS you will be buying a 4G subscription. Even then, though, it seems quite expensive to me.

Does it have an OMAP processor instead of Tegra?

      • James

I am torn between the Prime and Xyboard myself actually, while the Prime is definitely cheaper, it has no 3g/4g capability, it certainly has some better hardware and the battery life on the thing looks better, but the "convertible laptop" idea doesn't really interest me in the slightest as I want my laptop when I want a laptop the tablet is for when I don't want that.

So I am waiting until next week to figure this out. It will really boil down to whether I want to be able to use my tablet anywhere (for a lot of reasons I do), or if I am okay with it working only on wi-fi (which defeats a lot of the purpose of the tablet for me).

If you don't like the hybrid nature of the Prime, then you don't have to buy the lapdock. That way it's just a tablet.

Also, I used to feel the same way about Wi-Fi only tablets - I just didn't see the point if I couldn't use it everywhere. Now that I have a couple of tablets, though, I feel differently. I can activate tethering on my phone with a single tap, my tablet(s) automatically connect, and I'm surfing. No extra bills, no contracts. Definitely the way to go.

The Prime is superior to the Xyboard in every way, and I honestly believe that you'll be much happier with it in the long run.

What a horrible name for, well, ANYTHING! LMFAO

    • Icefreez

I totally agree. Board just makes it sound so primitive, and XY sounds like they ran out of naming ideas.

  • igolfchip

    ugly, undistinguished POS

  • Pawnty

First thing I thought when I saw the thing was it's not a rectangle! So at least that part of it's design isn't infringing on Apple XD but yeah... that thing is fugly

I'm not seeing what so different about this then the original XOOM other then a slight design difference. Still only has a Dual Core Processor and is overpriced. Id definitely go for the Transformer Prime and just Tether from my EVO for free.
