android happy

If you've been checking out what the Android Market has to offer during it's "10 Billion" promotion, then you've probably had some difficulty in getting the apps you desire. Today, many users experienced error messages and cancelled orders as the market groaned trying to support the insane amount of traffic pouring in to snatch up some tasty 10 cent treats. Be grateful if you managed to grab the ones you wanted, because many were not so lucky. However, if you happened to receive a cancelled order, you should be seeing an email soon from good ole Google letting you know how to get the apps you wanted.

It reads:

We're writing to apologize for any accidental cancellation of your Android Market orders during our 10 Billion Downloads promotion. We'd like to inform you that as a one-time courtesy, we're giving you free access to all the apps you attempted to purchase. To download these apps, please follow these steps:

  1. Open Android Market on your device
  2. Press "Menu" and then touch "My Apps"
  3. Scroll down and select the apps in question. They should be labeled as "Purchased" or "Not installed."
  4. Touch "Install" to download and install the app

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us through our Help Center at https://support.google.com/androidmarket/bin/request.py?hl=en&policy=apps&contact_type=contact_policy

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

The Android Market Team

If you received the email, go get your apps! If you haven't, and had your order(s) canceled, you should be getting it soon.

I HATE when companies use that condescending line, "as a one-time courtesy". NO!!! YOU WILL EXTEND THAT COURTESY EACH AND EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU ARE AT FAULT. And that is exactly what I tell companies that are at fault then want to use that "one-time courtesy" card with me. I simply let them know, I will extend my one-time courtesy to call and ask before I take their asses to small claims for the legal maximum in California of $7,500 EACH TIME THEY ARE AT FAULT.

This however, isnt one of those cases, but Im just saying that "one-time courtesy" line is almost as patronizing to me as hanging up on me.

    • John

Wow! With an attitude like that I'd extend you a "have a good day. I hope you never call my customer service department. If they canceled the order and you werent charged they technically aren't obligation to do anything

    • http://www.twitter.com/ScottColbert Scott

I'd be extending my middle finger to you with that attitude, and probably screw with your account for being a douche.

    • Smileyguy

Wow... it's people like you that doesn't deserve courtesy.

    • Douglas

Totally agree with you, William D. "One-time courtesy" is condescending, especially when the other side is at fault.

  • Mike R.

This actually was a courtesy though!

  • Brian P.

Does this mean that I will receive one free download of the app, or will I own that app for download on future devices?

    • Brandon Lancaster

Pretty sure you'll own it and be able to download it on future devices under the same account.

      • Terry S.

I sure hope so! I've already purchased more than what my current phone can hold with the hope that I'll be able to install them on my next device.

    Somebody has been drinking...

  • Protato

8 of the apps I bought don't install. They show up as 'Not installed' in my apps list. Some of them ask me to buy the app again (not at the discounted price) and some have the install button. I click install but they either don't start downloading or download for ever. Wtf do I do? Guess I'll use the help centre:

Is anyone else having similar problems to me?

    • Stella

I had this similar problem. I use the web Android Market and the app said "purchased" and I installed it. It installed on my phone. I hope this helps.

  • http://jjsa.eu jjsan

Protato: i hve the same problems

    • Stella

Try using the online Android Market to install the app. It worked for me.

  • david

Great that everything here is smooth as always...

I bought Flick Golf! with the 10 billion promo, but as I tray to play it, I get a message that says that my game is not licenced so I can't use it, that I need to buy it...
Has anyone got the same problem??

    • talktech

have the same problem. but it goes away when you restart your device.

      • Juan Reyes

        It worked! Thanx

  • talktech

I bought the swiftkey apps from the 1st day, but i overlooked that it's for phones not for tablets. Rather than uninstalling it (throwing away 10cents), I decided to keep it for... ahem...future android phone I might buy. Wondering if I can transfer apps from my Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 to a micro-sd. I already got the adaptor but have not gotten around to try it.

    • nope

apps that you purchase on the android market can be installed on any device hooked into your google account. i have several tablets and phones, works great!

  • Kobra

Only 2 of the apps I tried buying went through. The rest gave me an error for declined payment (even though i'm wayyyyy under my cc limit) and none of those apps are appearing under my purchased apps. No recent emails from Google either other than the usual declined payment emails at the time I tried buying the apps. Wonder if I'll be able to claim those apps now that they're no longer being offered for 10c. I feel a bit screwed out of the deals offered... Not interested in anyof todays deals, so hopefully I can try again tomorrow.

    • Anthony E.

A declined payment is different than a system error. Call your credit card company. They probably thought multiple 10 cent purchases were odd and blocked the transfers.

Brought SwiftKey X for my GNex on first day, then after two days got a email saying it had been cancelled, got another email off google saying it should be in my apps but it isn't there.

    • Brandon Lancaster

Try using the Web Market. If it still isn't there, contact the Help Center listed in the email.

Same issue. I did get the email and one of the two google side cancelled transactions showed up. The second I called Android market support and they said yes issue was on their end but that the app may show up may not. They could do nothing, offered nothing, just it might or might not show up. I would never get this response from their iOS competition.

    Until now I can't buy and I haven't got the email !!!

I bough the Minecraft Pocket edition via the browser on my PC, and never got around to turn on my Asus Transformer.

around 24 hours after purchase I got an e-mail with the cancellation.

Ever since I've been in contact with google, and I've got three different answers "order cancelled, we can't tell you more because of privacy issues", "I'm looking into your case, you'll hear from me" and one more I can't recall right now.

So no, not everyone has gotten their cancelled apps. Can't find it in my apps due to the fact that I never got around to download it.
