Samsung-Retina-tablet

Word from a "trusted source" at BGR is that Samsung is set to unveil a new tablet at MWC packing an 11.6" screen at 2560x1600. That's nearly twice as many pixels as 1080p in a dinky 11.6" package; thanks to a thinner bezel, said package is only slightly larger than the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Unsurprisingly, other specs are bumped up a notch as well, with the tablet reportedly equipped with a 2GHz dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU. Other details are light, although the source says the tablet will pack Android Beam, has a wireless docking mode to interface with HDTVs,  and most importantly, it will be running Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).

It looks just like an iPad! And iOS! And... hey, wait a minute!

As always, anything from the rumor mill should be taken with a grain of salt, though this one lies within the realm of actually feasible.

If its only slightly larger than the 10.1 then it sounds like a winner. I wonder how a 2Ghz dual core stacks up against the Asus Transformer Prime's dual core.

    • Paul Trinh

The Transformer Prime has a quad core.

sorry, thats what I meant. missed the "edit" window., lol.

      • Jim

        It actually has 5 cores.

        • Honu

They can't work together, only 4 of them can .. so performance wise it's more like a 4 cores than a 5

I think it might stack up pretty neatly. The primes quad core is 1.5ghz iirc but 2.0ghz is higher and me thinks that the problem has been on the software side with Google's os upgrades just get smoother and smoother. That screen also makes me jizz.

      -I got in ; Flynn

Quad core 1.3GHz, 1.4 if it's only one core. The thing is, the tegra3 is an A9 cpu while the 5250 is an A15 meaning it's substantially faster due to better reworking of the cores. If anything, a dual core 5250 will stack up extremely favorably against the tegra3.

WHy would someone post that picture. SOunds like they are trying to give Samsung some issues. No need to add fuel to an already unnecessary fire.

Sean: It was the same picture used by BGR. It's all in good fun, no need to be testy ;)

It will also cost 800 million dollars probably.

    • Tyler C

No, you're thinking of the iPad 3 ;]

      • Alex Williams

Screen this big with this many pixels is going to cost a lot of money. I'm guessing between 750-800. REALLY expensive. Galaxy 7.7 is supposedly 700 in the US. This will cost more than that.

        • tommy

Why would the Galaxy 7.7 cost more than the 8.9 and 10.1?

  • JMC907

WOW, talk about photoshop fail! IS it supposed to run ICS, or IOS? XD

  • Ken

Ah, I'll skip this. I already have the 10.1 and My upgrade will be a future Windows Tablet/Slate. Hopefully, in a year or so when I replace my laptop and tab, the WinTabs will be thinner and lighter and still be badassed machines. Samsung currently makes the best one I've seen reviewed so here's hoping they keep it going.

Looks pretty sweet though waiting for the official word and while waiting, gotta wonder what display Samsung is using for the tablet

    JUST ONE QUESTION
Why is it that ONLY NOW industry is starting to produce high resolution panels, and for TABLETS?!

Because I've NEVER seen a LCD monitor at this resolution, even my 24" screen is only at 1080p...

I demand a QuadHD 24" monitor at the same ppi/dpi this tablet screen is going to have!

    • The-Fox

BlackOmega, there was actually a screen which is 22" and offers QuadHD resolution (3840x2400 which is 16:10 ratio), that is more than 200PPI, but it is too old to be remembered.
      It's called IBM T220/T221:

Why it never got into mass production is beyond me...

  • Shane

BlackOmega go buy a Samsung Monitor dude....lol stop being cheap, monitors with that res exist, i'm looking at one right now, lol
