In case you were wondering or had any doubt at all, the CyanogenMod 9 wheels are now in motion (as promised), and in a few months (likely weeks for nightlies) delicious ICS will drip onto 68+ supported Android devices, some completely forgotten by carriers and manufacturers. If you ask me, that's the best thing that could happen to them anyway - what do carriers know about keeping their devices up-to-date with Android, right?

There's only one thing we can do now: wait [anxiously]. And don't forget the first rule of CM - do not ask for ETAs.

Ok, no eta requests to CM, but you people? :)

I 'd say we ll have the first ICS roms in no more than 2-3 days...

    • RockinEvo

Lol 2-3 days high hopes for the super team huh

    • Asphyx

      LOL Not even that long!
There are already releases out that have some aspects of ICS built into it.

Plenty of Devs are starting to sync ICS into their repos and we are already seeing some ICS goodness in some CM releases!

  • delboy

like a gazillion other ppl: "ooh! can't wait!" :)

  • gurningchimp

    How much longer in time...

  • Alice

Now I am worried whether Nexus One has enough space for CM9.

  • Angelo

Nice. Cant wait for it :-)

  • Letroy

I say we will have an RC version by summer.

  • RCK

by summer? IMHO nightlys will hit rom manager withing weeks :) RCs will be out this year for sure :) :) cant w8

    • Letroy

2.3 -> 4.0 is a much bigger change than 2.2 -> 2.3 was. I really don't think they will release an RC version in 1 month..

      • Lou

This is indeed true. Coding for 4.0 needed some spectacular hardware to make happen. I would only imagine out of all the rom makers Cyan would be the only one to have the hardware ready to code this. That said still we will not see this until awhile.

I am simply just glad that the source was released so quickly! I was dreading that it would be pushed back until sometime in December.

        Looking Forward to CM9

        • http://www.romrepo.info TechJeeper

So no other developers have super fast computer systems? That doesn't make sense... The CM group are normal people like us just with unbelievable skills of development, they are not not getting paid (maybe donations) and they are not doing their compiling on massive server farms or anything. Please explain your thinking behind your statement. Thanks!

2 months... I think I'd own a galaxy nexus by then.

My N1 would still be happy though :)

    • Hooman

      yeah ... Same here

  • Zaeem

My Galaxy S (which still has a very buggy CM7) will probably get CM9 next year. :/

    • Álmos

In what way CM7 for the SGS is very buggy?

  • Bloodflame

Great news! I'm betting most devices from the last year or so will have pure AOSP builds in the next 2-3 days. CM9 nightlies in 2-3 weeks. It's gonna be a fun road ahead! This is the most excited I've been for any Android version to date :D

  • Rob

Very excited by this. CM7 is on my EVO 4G and running quite smoothly. Bring on ICS! ;)

    • RockinEvo

      I second that rob

  • Kevin

Dear Cyanogenmod - what is the eta for CM9?

    • Jason Matsoukas

It will be available in approximately 247 minutes.

    • Martin

Re read the first rule of CM!!!

    • William Brasky

Walking the plank, you'll be, if ye keeps violating the rules of cyanogenmod!

  • duder

for single-core phones - I wouldn't be surprised if they rip out the flashier things in ICS so they can run properly on something like the DInc or EVO 4G

  • ben dover

68+ devices. there will be a lot of tablets added to CM now that they have code that works on tablets! I can't wait for my transformer to get CM9!

  • Gopal

Please develop for Epic 4G Touch.

    • please et4g

      Yes!!!! Please ET4G!

  • Nook Man

Nook Color I, please. Oh please....

  • Toly

    HP Touchpad please

  • Adryan

OHHHHHHH MAN!!!!! ETA!!!! ETA!!! Just kidding. But hoping to give my OG Droid some ics love and my Droid x and my bionic and my galaxy tab.

  • Joshp406

Hate to break it to you tards, but saying *insert device here* Please is hopeless. CYANOGEN AND CO. DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS.

    • Simon Belmont

Perhaps they're just excited and wishing their device to get CM9? You mad?

Personally, I hope to see CM9 on my B&N Nook Color, TouchPad, and EVO 3D. Having an official CM9 on my Hero is probably wishful thinking though, but we will see.

  • xahl

Any idea if team CM will add galaxy note to their list.

  • http://www.thepixelpuse.com aj

Do you think it'd be too much to ask for them to include the stock launcher this time around?

  • Disgruntled Evo 3D User

A few of us are still waiting for a stable release of 7.1, and yet the cm team is taking on a ICS port. It seems like they are testing the loyalty of their users.

    • Huh

Loyalty? Did you BUY CM port? They owe you nothing. And most people would jump ship if there was anything better...and free out there. So there is no such thing as loyalty. May make you feel better and noble but CM developers knows better. They do it because they enjoy it...not for you or me.

      • Disgruntled Evo 3D User

I didn't say that they "owe" me anything. I was simply pointing out that it is prudent to complete a task prior to starting another. I am being purely objective. You're the one making it personal.

    • Thinks this guy is an idiot^^

Let me guess... you're one of the self entitled idiots that spammed the thread on xda for the evo 3d thinking you deserve an update? Yeah, you are not owed anything and if you can't wait, flash something else.

      • Disgruntled Evo 3D User

I was making an observation, no need for petty insults.

    • Simon Belmont

Funny. I've been using CM7 on my EVO 3D and it's been fine.

CM does this stuff free of charge. They really don't owe anyone anything.

      • Disgruntled Evo 3D User

Once again I never said they "owe" me or any other user anything. Oh by the way they accept donations, so lets not pretend that they are doing this purely to amuse themselves.

  • LG Optimus V

CM7.1 has been stable on LG Optimus line for a while now (except very minor bugs), and it's not even on the officially supported list. for certain devices it has more to do with the devs that work on them than the CM team.

  • maro

Been running a port for the nesus s 4g and its my daily!!!

  • http://GrantGarrison.com OMGrant

    Wait just a second... One.. Two.. 3 4 5 6 Seven....... Nine?

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

8 - Honeycomb, skipped due to lack of source.

  • http://GrantGarrison.com OMGrant

Oh just because Honeycomb never came out is a silly reason to jump version numbers... SILLY

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

In case HC sources ever come out, there needs to be no confusion.

      • Royvin

They did release the Honeycomb Source code as well.

    • Huh

The version number matches the Android API release. (A=1, B=2...G=7, H=8...and I=9). So its not 'SILLY'. Just because you have no clue.

  • akoli

Well first RC version thats avaialable for Galaxy 2 will be installed... official or CM9 , I was hopeful of ICS and Ipad 2 jailbreak by end of the year.... countdown starts !!

  • al

Im looking forward to it but cant see it coming for a long while. Was hoping theyd release another update for CM7 before they went to CM9.. oh well.

    • RockinEvo

They said they will up Cm7 to 7.2

  • Marcus

Are they going to have write or modify drivers for some devices to make them work properly with ICS?

  • ArunaSena

CM9 is what we have been waiting
All those days no ICS kept us dreading
Taking turns going into forums trolling
But hey the nightlies will turn us smilling

  • jatin

good that they made stable release for SGS
