If you're looking to pick up a new phone from Amazon Wireless, an interesting deal just popped up: activate mobile hotspot during your purchase, get a $100 Amazon Gift card. Doesn't matter if you're a new customer or you've been with your carrier for 10 years and are getting an upgrade -- this deal applies to everyone; any hotspot-ready phone, any carrier.

Alternatively, If you're not eligible for upgrade or don't want to get a new phone just yet, you can get a similar deal on standalone hotspots. If you pick up a mobile hotspot device instead of a new phone, you can still score a $50 Amazon gift card. Pretty rad.

For full details on this deal, check out Amazon Wireless.

Or you could just root your phone and save that $100 and more.

Wonder what keeps people from just cancelling the hotspot plan after? Generally plan add-ons can be removed without contract issues.

I was wondering the same thing. I took a quick look at the terms and conditions and couldn't find any T or C prohibiting termination of the hotspot feature. I can only assume that since most refunds take 8 to 10 weeks to process that customers would be on the hook for basically 2 months of hotspot service which is at least $60 plus taxes, fees and surcharges on most carriers. The only limitation I found was that the Amazon gift card could only be used on Amazon.com or its affiliates, but that's sort of a no-brainer. :)
