Amazon pushed an update to its Appstore today that brings a few new features, as well as a much sleeker interface. The theme is much easier on the eyes now, as the formerly-white app is now wearing a suit of gray with hints of orange, which matches the color scheme of the upcoming Kindle Fire perfectly.

Aside from the change in appearance, the Appstore also has support for in-app purchases and parental controls now, as well as a page where you can check permissions before you purchase an app. Download and load times have also been improved, so you'll spend less time waiting and more time... doing whatever else.

If you don't have the Amazon Appstore installed, you can find out more info and download it right here.

Seems to also fix the scroll and Download click issues that were present even on the fastest phones. I think they finally got the ListView Adapter implemented correctly.

Edit: never mind. The infuriating bug of trying to click Install when you already have a download going, which ends up selecting completely random cells instead or not selecting anything at all is still present. Seriously, this is ridiculous.

It also seems to be handling notifications better. Now if they could just get concurrent downloads working...

Update all button. If they're gonna compete with the Android market, get some of the more powerful features.

    • Johnny

I'm really surprised they haven't included an "update all" option. This is very frustrating to those of us with lots of Amazon apps!

  • Matt

how about an option to turn off notifications or at least clear them from the notification bar? i've had the new version installed for only an hour or two and i'm already contemplating uninstalling the whole thing. first, the free app of the day sits in the notification bar if you're not on wifi as per your settings, and then another notification sits up there telling me i have updates. they don't clear unless you force stop the application. and those "updates" are programs i have from the android market. jesus.

    • mpciii

Never had either of these problems. I usually just hit clear in my notification bar and everything goes bye-bye

      • Matt

this notification crap was introduced with this new version. they can't be cleared. and the one notification to download the app when connected to wifi comes back and sits on the notification bar once the app restarts itself. this is incredibly frustrating and intrusive.

        • mpciii

I had notifications for apps this morning after my market updated. I updated the apps and the notifications cleared when I pressed clear.

  • mpciii

It also got rid of the wifi only downloads, at least for Angry Birds Seasons. I was able to download the update over the cell connection no problem.

    • Steve

Not for Plants vs. Zombies, its still required there.

      • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

There is a setting for Wi-Fi only downloads, and it's still maxed out at 20MB, which is idiotic, especially for those of us with unlimited data and 4G.

  • Steve

Still no way to override the WiFi required for large downloads if on 4G? What a bunch of crap! Come on Amazon!

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Nope, I check for that every time they update.

I can still assume : US only.... canada still missing...?

    • http://www.chipwreck.de m. fischer

"..is only available to customers located in the United States."

Annoying, and to me not quite understandable: Amazon is global and delivers physical goods to nearly every country - but downloads are restricted to US..

  • John

A changelog or what's new in this version section on app pages would be nice too.

Can I still assume apps loaded from the amazon app store require that I log in before I use the app?

  • Darren

Does anyone else have a problem with the old swiftkey being listed under apps needing an update? I uninstalled the app, and I have swiftkey x properly installed, but I can't figure out how to get rid of the old one.

    • Mike D

I have exactly the same problem. There appears to be no way to get it to stop asking if I want to update the old Swiftkey, even though it was already removed and replaced with the newer Swiftkey X.

Also, when I tried to report this from within the app ("Leave Feedback") it told me "Feedback could not be submitted. Please, try again later. (HTTP error 500: Internal Server Error)"

      • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Same here. I have about 5 apps I bought in the Market that are showing up as updates, even though the Market has more up-to-date versions. I just ignore them, but it's annoying.

why people use amazon appstore, if they have already Android market

    • Mike D

Because, every once in a while, they offer a paid app that I desire for free.

    • Pachi

Why do you use an Android phone, when there is a iPhone phone already? Doesn't make sense either right..

will it affect those people who spoof american identities to download free apps?
