SwiftKey X is arguably one of the best keyboard alternatives for Android, and it's only getting better. The newest alphas (VIP login required) for both phones and tablets include a much-needed feature for any keyboard: multitouch. This will allow for even faster typing, fixing one of SwiftKey's biggest issues - missed and repeated letters.

Over the next few days, we would greatly appreciate your participation in Alpha testing our latest update to multi-touch functionality. This version is an Alpha, so we would advise against using it as your primary SwiftKey keyboard. However, your feedback will assist us in refining the SwiftKey experience for the betterment of all of our users. We'd appreciate if you could take some time to give this Alpha a thorough test.

We have made improvements for rapid typists. We now properly support multi-touch so you shouldn’t get accidentally repeated letters or accidentally missed letters when typing at speed with more than one finger. If you could try this out and in particular look out for issues with long-press keys, alternative character selection or keys where the highlighting gets stuck. We are particularly interested in results from tablet users touch typing as well as phone users with two thumbs. When reporting if you could be as descriptive as possible about exactly what you do to create the problem otherwise it will be very hard for us to fix it.

Unfortunately, it will be a a couple of weeks before the masses see multitouch action incorporated into the release version of the keyboard, as the alpha version is currently being tested by VIP members.  Once it has passed inspection, expect to see it in the Market -- as always, we'll let you know.

So the apk will leak...when? I wish, as a premium member, that I could check a box to join the alpha!

Using the link from this article, I have just signed up for free to the VIP forum and downloaded the APK. No reason why anyone else can't do this, though obviously if the admins here want me to send it I can?

I did the same, just signed up for a free VIP forum account and downloaded the Alpha, trying it out right now and I have to say, I do notice an increase in typing speed, multitouch seems to be working fine! We'll see how it holds up over the next few days, I'm a heavy texter and type a lot on my phone, so will be giving it a heavy workout.

I'm stoked for this - inability to type fast has been my #1 complaint, and pretty much the only one left. SK will be close to perfect once that's out.
