In what seems to be its biggest update since the initial release, the Winamp team just pushed some pretty major changes to Winamp for Android. For starters, this update now allows Mac users to sync with Winamp -- something that has previously been missing. Aside from that, there is now a pro version available, offering enough new features to easily justify the $5 pricetag:

  • 10-band graphic equalizer
  • A customizable home screen
  • The ability to navigate or browse your music by Folders
  • Crossfade between tracks
  • Gapless playback
  • Support for FLAC playback in Browse by Folders nav (lossless audio playback)
  • Replay Gain Support (configurable in Settings menu)
  • Personalized SHOUTcast station recommendations (based on music in your Android device)
  • The ability to play any streaming audio URL in SHOUTcast (supported formats only)
  • Ad Free

Still doesn't seem to beat the stock player. Preset music profiles are hard to get...

I just grabbed Winamp for Android again today. I had it previously but because it didn't play nice with Mac it was of little use to me. (I wasn't about to go back to Windows!). So I'm excited to see what the new version offers. I'll be downloading the Winamp for Mac OS X Beta when I get home tonight. And I'll probably check out the "Pro" version for the added features. :)

Last time I used Winamp, it was causing severe battery drain - 10% in 30 minutes. Hopefully, that's been fixed.

This update basically made me decide to uninstall WinAmp. It's basically a downgrade if you're using the free app, since they're adding advertisements. If you want to get rid of the ads, you have to spend $4.99 to "upgrade" to the Pro version. What a scam. I'll go back to the stock Music app or pick another better music app like PowerAmp or UberMusic. =(

Google Music, PowerAMP and Player Pro are the real choices.

Winamp lacks many features still, and forced payment to get rid of adds is a WTF.

VLC really needs to get their act together and release a version already. I didn't like winamp on android. I used it on the pc until I got VLC

How dare they want to make money with their product??

Ridiculous how entitled some android users are, as seen here in the comments.

Gapless playback, crossfade and flac are things you don't find in every musicplayer (in fact this might be the first one?) I don't use winamp but that's a great set of features.

All good, but I need to sync my Winamp for Windows with Winamp for Android (similar to what Opera does).

How is one supposed to sync podcast feeds and bookmarks for radio stations.
