GALAXY Nexus features software navigation buttons, a first for Android smartphones. The lock screen, home screen, phone app, and everything in between has been rethought and redesigned to make Android simple, beautiful, and useful.

Ice Cream Sandwich also features a new People app, which lets you, browse friends, family, and coworkers, see their photos in high-resolution, and check their latest status updates from Google+ and other social networks. GALAXY Nexus features a redesigned camera which introduces panorama mode, 1080p video capture, zero-shutter lag, and effects like silly faces and background replacement.

In the U.S., you can also upload your music to the cloud with Music Beta by Google and listen anywhere, even when offline.

Ice Cream Sandwich introduces innovations such as Face Unlock which uses facial recognition to unlock your phone. Using NFC technology, Android Beam allows you to quickly share web pages, apps, and YouTube™ videos with your friends by simply tapping your phones together. You can even use fun effects while shooting video or video chatting with Google Talk™.

Ron Amadeo
Ron loves everything related to technology, design, and Google. He always wants to talk about "the big picture" and what's next for Android, and he's not afraid to get knee-deep in an APK for some details. Expect a good eye for detail, lots of research, and some lamenting about how something isn't designed well enough.
  • Mark

HSPA Means its coming to AT&T and Tmobile! Hopefully that means sprint as well, and SOON DAMMIT!

    • deesugar

How do you figure it will come to Sprint when Sprint won't have an LTE network ready till next year?!?

  • Zac

A little bummed about the camera. But it better be the best 5mp camera ever released to consumers.

    • ebinrock

I hope you don't still buy into that whole myth about more MP = better picture. And plus, let's face it, cameras built in to phones are really a convenience. We're lucky to get as good a picture as we get these days with them. If you really want pristine imaging for those special occasions, nothing beats a good DSLR with interchangeable lens.

  • gbenj

    Leaked? It was handed out...No?

    • Ron Amadeo

Usually press releases are emailed to us (and everyone else). "Leaked" was meant to convey that it was transcribed and might not be super accurate. It clearly wasn't meant to hit the internet yet.

  • http://yggdrasil.net Joe Ewbank

Disappointed with the news on the camera and processor speed.

I'll wait to see the hands-on camera comparisons . . . but right now, I'm feeling VERY let down by Verizon. They skipped the SGS II . . . for this?

C'mon HTC Vigor/Rezound, with an inevitable ICS update.

  • Russell Neal

woo hoooo for NFC capabilities. I'm really hoping that technology takes off.

  • andrew

low specs...can't even beat the iphone 4S hardware specs! Unappealling... 8MP camera and faster GPU please!

  • IamBeast

Does anyone know if the Verizon version will come with the quadbands for world wide use?

  • http://xxx.com Sharp

    Don't like the specs either.

  • azumihk

u guys complain about specs lol
ics is dual core os and gingerbread was single, u will see with this os your phone runs like a train, u guys always check spec, the graphic card from ios is better butt he proc from galaxy is better.

  • zulu208

it said specs differ for lte version. so maybe the higher hardware spec will be for verizon ... the 1.5; 8mp, 2000mah battery, etc

  • L boogie

Is there gonna be a SD card slot or no? Btw, if the camera is of high quality standards ( zero shutter lag, for instance), i won't mind at all though I'm surprised this nexus is not running Omap 4470 processor or exynos 4212, oh well, everything else is pretty much what's been speculated over the last few weeks.

  • Rob

@Wam31: that looks like a volume rocker to me.

    • Wam31

it is ! I'm just very picky and some things really bother me, like the power button... not on top ;-)
