The road to CyanogenMod 7.1, undoubtedly the largest Android custom ROM, now covering a mind-boggling number of devices (68), has been long and rough. We've been hearing rumblings that the final release was almost here for a number of days (just watch the video of the CM sessions from the Big Android BBQ below), but a couple of hours ago it really did seep through and end up at CM download mirrors across the web.

What's New

CM 7.1 adds support for the following (note that not all of these have stable releases out):

  • HTC Desire S, Incredible S, Incredible 2
  • LG Optimus 2X and T-Mobile G2x
  • Motorola Backflip (Motus), Cliq / Cliq XT, Defy, Droid 2, Droid X
  • Samsung Captivate, Fascinate, Mesmerize, Showcase, Vibrant, Galaxy S, Galaxy S2 (multiple carriers)
  • Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Neo, Xperia Play, Xperia Ray, Xperia Arc
  • ZTE V9

More devices are on the horizon as well - EVO 3D, HP Touchpad, Optimus 3D, and others.

In addition to all the new devices, CM 7.1 includes a number of new features and bug fixes, which those of you flashing nightly releases have already been enjoying. Some of these features are:

  • Bluetooth mouse support
  • revoking app permissions
  • camera touch-to-focus
  • native screenshots in the power menu
  • upgraded kernel and Android v2.3.7

And then there's this change, which promptly caused me to laugh and scratch my noggin while searching for a deeper meaning (which I haven't found yet looks like it's related to this - thanks, Samuel):

  • Common: "eat" pushes fresh brunch/breakfast to device - Ricardo Cerqueira

For the rest of the changes, head over to the CHANGELOG.

CyanogenMod 9

As the Honeycomb source will remain unpublished, the upcoming open source release of Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be merged into CM and assigned version 9 (as soon as Google releases the source that is). So don't be surprised when you see CM9 without ever seeing CM8.

As usual, you can download CyanogenMod 7.1 for your device via ROM Manager or directly over here.

Don't forget to grab new Google Apps (gapps 20110828) while you're flashing 7.1 - you can also find it in ROM Manager or here.

If you'd like to try Google Talk with Video/Voice Chat (Experimental! Doesn't work 100% on all devices!), flash this after CM 7.1.0 and the above GApps.

Does anybody see the "nicer timepicker/datepicker"

    • Kopfgeldjaeger

I also wondered about that when I tried 7.1.0-rc1. I asked in IRC and they told me it was not a cosmetic change but rather a behavioral one. It should be a bit more "intelligent" now.

      • Pedro

        Oh ok. I hoped for a HTC/Honeycomb-like one :(

  • Andy

I got rid of my desire and got the nexus S as I read alot of the developers from cyanogen had the nexus S and would release regular ROMS for it, bit disappointed that they haven't released 7.1 for the nexus yet. especially with it being the flagship google phone. ah well

    • http://denh.am DrMacinyasha

Uh... They did. Nexus One, Nexus S, and Nexus S 4G all got updated tonight.

    • Leonid

‎Of course, they have released 7.1 for Nexus S. Unfortunately, in my experience, there is (and have been since at least 7.0) a bug with Nexus S (http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=3850), which makes the phone almost unusable with CM7.
I rolled back to stock because of that.

  • Pegger

Finally a new Stable CM7 release for the HTC Hero GSM :)
And in also for the Wildfire (Buzz)

Time to do some Flashing :)

  • lukeap69

I had problems downloading apps from Android Market with he release candidate version, I hope that is solved now...

  • itai

    i think the phone briked
    i had CM7.1 rc

i got into rom meneger it said i didnt hed a cwm recovery but i did (i had older one) so i instaled the new one 5

then downloaded the new cm7.1 stable withe gaps and marked V on wipe devlik and the phone rebooted to hboot

now since my power batten doesn't work i pulled the battery and since then the phone wont turn up withe the usual power plug

and doing 7 vibrates and nothing else not even showing its charging or nothing (no orange or green light)

i have no idea what to do please help me

    • http://www.futurinnovations.blogspot.com X

CWM recovery has always been finicky when it comes to flashing the newest recovery for me. What I always did was flash every single version ( and up) until you get to the most recent. It may take a while, but it works 95% of the time for me. I had to do that to my gf's phone when she wanted her recovery updated. We both have droid incredibles, so it may or may not be the same problem that you are having. The symptoms you are describing are similar to what I've experienced.

how to install on xperia arc? any download link? plz help :)

Any time frame for the Droid Bionic?

Actually the first rule of CM is that you don't ask for ETA.

    • http://denh.am DrMacinyasha

Sometime between tomorrow and April 5, 2063.

  • Wam31

Hummmm... What is new again ?
Because my CM7 Desire (running GingerVillain) already have those so-called new features.
    I mean :
    - revoking app permissions => check (this is from CyanogenMod 6)
    - camera touch-to-focus => check
    - native screenshots in the power menu => check
    - Bluetooth mouse support => never tested but I'm pretty sure its on the xda post
And for quite some time now !
So, those were not Cyanogen feature but brought with GingerVillain ?

    • Peter

These are new features since the last stable release. You could have had them with the CM nightlies. GingerVillain just takes the CM nightlies, adds one or two minor tweaks, and calls it a new ROM. Pretty stupid, actually.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

      Failed troll is failed.

    • http://denh.am DrMacinyasha

GingerVillain copied them from CyanogenMod Nightlies. There's been quite a few UI and feature improvements, as well as back-end improvements to beef up battery life and performance.

  • Somemone

I'd love HD2 support. If they go with the TouchPad, there's not "non-native android device" excuse...

    • http://denh.am DrMacinyasha

Nobody's stopping a developer from porting CM to the HD2 and pushing their commits to Gerrit as long as they don't break every other device.

  • Kenshin

Flashed on my wildfire, the notification bar fails to work :( , back to my 7.0.3

  • kcooley

What is everybody's impression for differences from RC1 on the EVO?

  • Simon Belmont

This works great on my old Sprint HTC Hero! I will try it on my B&N Nook Color and Sprint HTC EVO 3D soon.

    Thanks, CyanogenMod team. Great work!

  • riki

hey CM7 Please add LG P500h aka Optimus One on the device list :)

  • carlos

Please double check before post what phones are supported because the Droid x isn't. It only has nightlies

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

You're right - it seems these phones are supported since 7.0 release, but not all have stable releases.

  • android fan

how come they don't add a feature to do calls recording, even as an optional feature?

    • http://richard.borcsik.com randomchars

I'm pretty sure that because it's a Grey area: to record a conversation you need to tell the other party that you are doing so. And even than it's reality complicated what you can and cannot do with the recording.

      • http://sketaful.se Sketaful

Yes, but since it's different rules in different countries. Why not just let the user choose him/herself?

I own a knife legaly but it's still illegal for me to stab someone with it :P
(This was a jokingly compare and I fully understand that this isn't the same thing at all :P)

        • http://richard.borcsik.com randomchars

Well the project is hosted in the US some they need to respect those laws no matter what the rulings are in other countries.

  • toxron

Works ob S2, but i couldn't find a focus effect when pinching with the camera on.

Most important would be a working Bluetooth Audio. Does this work?

  • toxron

Works on S2, but no focus when pinching in cam mode.

Does Bluetooth Audio work @ your device?

  • http://sketaful.se Sketaful

I'm curious about trying CM7 but I can't find any guide to rooting my Galaxy S2 with Kies released 2.3.5 (XXKI4)

  • Sam

Does anyone know if this fixes the front camera issues that 7.0 had when using Tango for the Evo 4g?

  • Евгений

Updated on CM 7.1.0 I found a poser in the settings. Not selected Standard ringtones for calls and notification, rather, only one is chosen, the first and it gets all the calls, SMS notification at all, even at blok. / unlock / .ekrana - a melody. You can put a song from the player but it will play anywhere (oh .... was in e-blok. unlock.) In selecting ringtones, they are shown, but is can be browsed through one and the same, at all. Check out who made whether you have such trouble and how to correct it. Scheele zip from rekaveri, did wipe the cache.

cm7 was never worth the hassle for me... I mean,in the end I get a phone with 4h of battery and a crappy camera app - pass! Believe it or not,my stock 2.3.4 (/w root and tweaks ) works perfectly...very fast too

  • iofractal

:( not for the droid x, even though its in the list its still only nightlies, no stable

  • grandpaclay54

Hi there! I just would like to give you a huge thumbs up for your excellent info you have got right here on this post. I will be coming back to your blog for more soon.
