If you're the type of person who likes Madden, yet somehow managed to not purchase it four weeks into the season, I've got good news! From October 1st-3rd, Verizon customers can download Madden NFL 12 for the low, low price of "free." How you download it is a little bizarre, so listen up: You call -- that's right, call -- **MADDEN. That's "[Star] [Star] 623336", and somehow that will start the download. The instructions aren't very specific. Whoever wrote the press release decided obvious football puns were more important than clarity. The press release mentions something about "VCast Apps," so don't be surprised if you are asked to download yet another app store. It's worth it for the $6.99 saving, though, isn't it?

Ron Amadeo
Ron loves everything related to technology, design, and Google. He always wants to talk about "the big picture" and what's next for Android, and he's not afraid to get knee-deep in an APK for some details. Expect a good eye for detail, lots of research, and some lamenting about how something isn't designed well enough.

    infinite sadness...I have T-mobile...

  • Thierry

No way to circumvent this with Marketenabler?

    • Ron Amadeo

I think the **MADDEN number was specifically designed to prevent that. Verizon will listen for it and do...something. Other carriers won't. Market Enabler would give you access to it if it were on the Android Market, but the free version isn't.

  • Thierry

Would there be a way to circumvent this with Marketenabler?

Hey download this spyware market . Now we want to give you free stuff because we know we have really sucked this year. Well not just this year but yea, sorry for sucking. It

Dont bother if you are a Droid Incredible 2 owner who received the updated verizon software to ver 2.34 on 9/27 . You must be on version 2.2. What a crock of sh*t....thanks for nothing

  • johnq

Same with the Thunderbolt if you were unlucky enough to have been stuck with the broken OTA to 2.3.4

  • Adam

Epic fail Verizon. Half the phones that are supported are on 2.3+.. Jokes on Us.

  • Matt

damn, says my phone is not supported, is it because im rooted and running a totally diff rom? droid x

  • Wrru

Sucks, got the INC 2.3.3 RUU installed then it was updated by Verizon to 2.3.4 OTA. This phone is not supported, FAIL

  • Jim Baird

Not working on the Bionic either

I have already tried to get this. You actually have to be subscribed to the vCast service in order to even download the app. So of course, there is a subscription fee you must pay verizon monthly before you download the game.

  • Mark

I wouldn't download an app from that filthy store if my life depended on it.

  • Adam

Not trying to be an a$$hole or anything, but I was able to download, install, and play this on a phone that violates the prohibitive criteria you guys are asserting: I'm on a custom ROM running 2.3.5 (latest MIUI) on my Droid Incredible, and I'm not subscribed to any extra VCast service, so I paid nothing at all for it. I'm not sure why some of you are having issues. Works great for me.

  • GM

    No go on Droid 3.

  • Zalyia38

for the TB, clear cache then download vcast then the game. Works now with 2.3

  • Steve

Got the email yesterday or the day before. Tried to download, got the text message and it said NO. SO, I completely reset my Driod Bionic back to STOCK, and again, NO.

Apparently any NEW phones aren't supported so I can't get it. I may break down and just buy it..... From the Android Market!!! :)

Verizon giveth and they taketh away. I had the free download of this game. Went to go play it yesterday and it took me straight to the vcast app market. What Verizon didn't mention in this offer is that it was free for however long they wanted it to be free and it automatically uninstalled from my phone and sent me to the market to purchase the game, 3 months after I got it for free. Shame on Verizon for this.
