The Motorola Backflip may be a slightly aged device, and not much news has come its way of late, but it seems that the time is finally here for Backflip users who have been patiently awaiting some CyanogenMod goodness. It's worth noting that CM has not yet released a stable build of CM7 for the Backflip, but the nightly updates should be able to hold ambitious users over until a stable release is available.

CyanogenMod just released the Backflip's first nightly yesterday evening, so if you've been wanting to install one of the most popular ROMs for Android on your beloved device, head over to CM's download page, grab the zip file, and enjoy.

I didn't even know it was rooted. How do you unlock the bootloader? Wait, is the bootloader even locked? Cyanogenmod comes as a shock to me. I couldn't find how to root it before unless it's just super one click or gingerbreak.

its been rooted for a year, first it was a terminal root, now there are various one click solutions. we have CM for almost a year, too. first CM 6, and then CM7 since beginning of summer i think. the bootloader was never locked

That's good news. I would never EVER get a Backflip, but I know someone that has one that could use a refresh.

i made the mistake of getting one. but the fluidity of CM7 on this is amazing. close to no lag at all, obv unless you play a game. my friend has CM7 on his OG droid and its miles faster than that, which i find amazing. but i am getting the SGSII on october second!

nice. Any updates for Desire S??

DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER'S RECOVERY! You MUST be using j_r0dd's recovery or THINGS WILL BREAK. You have been warned.

will Backflip get nightlies of CyanogenMod 9??
