Remember that sleek 4.5-inch Motorola looker we encountered last month? It's back, but no longer will it be known as the DROID HD or the DROID Spyder; according to the latest rumor (courtesy of This is my Next), the device is none other than the DROID RAZR. Yes, that's the name of the phone that in 2004 saved Motorola from bankruptcy (before it plunged into the profitless dregs of mobile society a second time, that is).

The name change is accompanied by a full list of specs, but first let's take a look at the handset itself and see what the hype is all about:

spyder-1 spyder-2lead1 spyder-3

And now for the spec sheet - in a word, it's drool-worthy:

  • 4.3-inch 960x540 Super AMOLED display (no PenTile!!!)
  • LTE radio
  • 1.2GHz dual-core CPU
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8MP camera with 1080p video recording and image stabilization
  • "HD" front-facing camera
  • Compatibility with Motorola's Webtop software and lapdock
  • Gorilla Glass and Kevlar casing

This is my Next was also told that the phone "could" be released before the holidays, and outside of enhancing the device with Ice Cream Sandwich and/or a quad-core processor, I can't think of many ways to improve the RAZR. There's no two ways about it: this is one Motorola handset to look forward to.

will it use the standard piece of crap Motorola cameras, or will it actually have cameras that can produce a decent image?

  • Elvis

    Kevlar casing? Awesome!

  • PacoBell

Uh, why is "HD" in quotes? Is it or isn't it?

    • http://androidpolice.com Jaroslav Stekl

Because that's how This is my Next describes it, but they don't quantify the claim with a megapixel count or any other specs.

I'm sold on the " no pentile display instead super AMOLED" then Kevlar casing, OMAP 4 etc.... now as long as there's no blur whatsoever or at least make it a option plus ICS- compatible, decent camera/ video, good battery management & a 1900+ battery and i might be sold though prime, vigor/ incredible HD & galaxy s 3 are tough to beat

Doesn't "Super Amoled +" imply no Pentile?

-And pretty much every other Super Amoled screen.

Technically, yes, but I felt the need to emphasize the DROID RAZR's lack of PenTile since it is so hated by the Android community and this will be the first Moto device in recent memory to ship without it.

      • TOMMMMMM

No, what I mean is, doesn't the fact that the device is stated as having a "Super AMOLED" display and NOT a "Super AMOLED +" display mean that it will indeed be Pentile?

        • JBO

Those were my thoughts EXACTLY Tommmmm. I would really like to know about that. I haven't been a big Moto fan lately but I would seriously consider this phone if the specs are true to what was stated.

Hrm, I see. It's possible that This is my Next meant Super AMOLED Plus, but failed to type the last word (it is an undeniably long title for a display technology). Whatever the case may be, let's just hope the RAZR doesn't have PenTile - I think that's this device's main appeal.

Yeah, this device will definitely have PenTile.

@Jaroslav The reason why I think it will be Pentile (other than the leak confirming it) is because there aren't any devices out there yet that have higher than WVGA that aren't Pentile. The galaxy note is HD Super AMOLED and that has Pentile. I think Samsung would want to be the first manufacturer to bring out a HD Super AMOLED + device. Just my thoughts.
