Update 9/2/11: Aaand now with the latest update, Honeycomb support is official.

A short while ago, the Google Voice app received an update that brought about a few bug fixes. Almost immediately we began hearing rumors that a Honeycomb interface may have been incorporated into this build. A quick search of the Market revealed that it's not officially supported just yet, so I pulled the apk from my phone and sideloaded it onto my Tab 10.1. Here is the result:

As you can see, the settings menu moved from its previous location in the navbar to the upper right-hand corner -- the typical place for the settings menu of Honeycomb-optimized apps. While the interface is still very much phone-esque, this is a good sign that Voice will soon be officially supported on tablets.

If you don't want to wait for that day, though, go ahead and grab the apk from our mirror right here. Enjoy.

I wonder if this is actually ICS scaling up to the honeycomb tablet, makes more sense

    • Steven

Nah, all it takes to move the menu bar on a phone app to the tablet area is literally one line of code in the manifest. It's nice that they did it though, so we didn't have to do it ourselves.

Makes it quite easy for simple apps to be "tablet-ized" :D

Hi Steven, is that the case of the back to inbox button too?

        • Steven

Sorry, I don't have my tablet with me. Do you mean the button on the top-left? If so, yes.

  • K

Has a Honeycomb resizable widget too!

  • Fred

Yeah this feels really nice. The wdiget, not just the settings bar but the tablet specific settings like an inbox back button. It fits great!

It also doesn't have that "not designed for this version of android" scaling button on the lower right.

    Thanks Ive been wanting this

That download doesn't install for me :( "cannot open file".
I've been a huge android fan from the very beginning, but for the life of me can't figure out why android/Google can't put their products together w/ a least a little "polish". I've been using the Voice app on my iPad for a while (all apps install, some are just designed for iPhones) and can't figure out why it's not available for the android tabs yet. I would have assumed that any phone app could be installed, but that is not the case!

You're some joker. You side-load an app unofficially and complain about lack of polish.

Haha screen was taken at 4:04 :D

Really glad that Google is seeing the need for tablet support. Hope this happens to all apps.
