The elusive Droid Bionic is finally within weeks of release (it should drop September 8th for $299.99), but if you want to pretend you already have one for a moment or if your current boot animation is not a gorgeous fiery bionic eye (is such a thing even possible?), then download this official Droid Bionic boot animation and sound. It won't grow you an extra arm, but it will make you the coolest chap in town (not really).

Update: I've dropped the frames into GIMP and created an animated gif version. It's too big to embed on this page but if you want to see it, click here.

Download (from our direct download mirrors - no popups, no ads):

On some phones, root access isn't required for installing custom boot animations if you copy to /data/local, but I can't guarantee it will work on every phone, so on those you may need to root first. Since there are many ways of installing bootanimation.zip, we've listed some of them here.

As for Bionic.ogg, if you want the boot sound enabled, you'll have to figure out the place where it goes on your phone - most likely some directory under /system/media or /data/local.

Sweetness I'm gonna check it out now, thanks

  • Mark

I'm confused. You say here that root access shouldn't be necessary but, on your link page, you say that it is? So, if you're not rooted (had a bad experience with my last rooted phone and have decided not to root this one), how do you install a new boot animation.
    Thanks dude. You rock.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Look for the /data/local part - putting files there doesn't require root but it may not work on all devices.

  • Mark

Thanks. Sorry, my reading comprehension this morning is terrible. I'll report back if this works on my DX. If not, it'll just add to the pain of not rooting...

  • mastermind26

I want the app to do speed test!

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Huh? What are you talking about?

      • mike

Hes talking bout the video, an its speedtest.net

  • joe

Where can I get the wallpaper in the video? Its like a 3D-ish cube with classic red droid styling.

  • drkHD

The skin actually reminds me of Honeycomb quite a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if Ice Cream Sandwich looks more like this.

  • Jilaman

I got the animation working on HTC Thunderbolt, but the audio does not work. I am thinking either I do not have the right location to put the Bionic.ogg file, or the Thunderbolt cannot use ogg for it....

    • silver

How do I get this to work on my thunderbolt , do I need to root it? I'm not to knowledgeable on this

  • george

that wasnt a very fast lte speedtest
second, doesnt seem to open apps any faster than any other 4g phone.
again i still stay too little too late moto

  • Saul

Has anyone figured out where to put the sound file? I tried /system/media, /system/media/audio, and data/local

  • Saul

I got it to work, but I don't know how. I put the ogg file in /system/media/, /system/media/audio/, /system/media/audio/ui/, /system/media/audio/ringtones/, and /system/media/audio/alarms/. I think the ui folder is the right one though.

  • Jared

The file should go in /system/media/notifications

I'm on EVO 4G Supersonic running CM7.1, I get the bootanimation but no audio. How can I fix/do this?

  • tamim

    When you download bootanimation.zip
You have to move it from
sdcard/ download, then paste it into
Then reboot it and it will come.

  • DaBiGoReO

FYI > bootanimation download link either got hijacked or wrong file is loaded - contents ARE NOT the Bionic boot animation.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Wow, that seems to be a horrible bug in Crate's system (our download host). I've reported it to them, hopefully it's recoverable. Thank you for telling us.

  • http://google Mangtas666

What an idiotic boot animation..waste of time you shithead..dont be fooled by this asshole..look at the zip file befor making it as your boot animation..its a fuck flying dumb android..just like the creator of this..grrhh..

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

Please see above - the download site corrupted some of the uploads with the same name (bootanimation.zip), and they're in the process of fixing it now.

  • Soupgoblin

Well, hopefully it won't take too many weeks for them to fix it, I would like to try out this boot animation. I guess I shouldn't bother checking out any more of the boot animations on your site if they are messed up. That sux, since I just recently rooted and have been looking for more ways to personalize my Android.

    • http://www.AndroidPolice.com Artem Russakovskii

I pinged them 3 times so far, and their reply as of 5 min ago is still: "We're working on this. Dan will get back to you ASAP. We don't take this lightly."

  • ChrisS

    Any updates... ?

  • user013

Very interested in this animation.. I'll see what I can do with the .gif

  • superuser013
  • Zaqw

    ummm... this is nyan droid....

    • http://www.androidpolice.com/ Artem Russakovskii

The mirror host fucked up the files and mixed them together with other ones, like Nyan. They never ended up fixing it, after numerous emails.

  • MysteryFCM

Just an FYI, the download link is showing a bandwidth exceeded message.
