Although the Gingerbread update for the Droid 2 Global was supposed to begin in mid-June, we've yet to see an official release hit the air. Every time another device gets Gingerbread, I can hear the D2G owners across the nation asking when it will be their turn, and it looks like we can finally answer that question: now.

While it may not be the official build, there is a definitely a leaked version floating around RootzWiki courtesy of aceoyame, that's looks to be a somewhat final build. The entire first part of the thread is dedicated to figuring out whether the bootloader is locked, but unfortunately, it was determined that it is, so you can skip past all of that.

The build number of this version is 4.5.606, and you will need to be running stock 2.4.330 before you attempt to flash this. If you flash this and experience bugs (or just don't like it), then you will be able to SBF back to 2.4.330.

Download and Installation:

  • Download the file from here [mirror]
  • Rename it to update.zip
  • Place it on the root of the SD card
  • Boot into recovery by holding power+X
  • Choose update
