So, here's a new one: Samsung has apparently halted the TouchWiz UX update for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in order to "assess progress and ensure it's a positive experience for customers." We're not entirely sure what that means on a realistic level, but I'll go out on a limb and assume they found some sort of bug -- possibly one that is making some Tabs unusable by scrambling the graphics.

Naturally, since no real reason was given, we pinged once again to see if we could get more info -- like before, no details.

At this point, we can only speculate what the issue could be -- but if you're a Tab 10.1 owner that has yet to get the TouchWiz UX update, now you know why.

As always, we'll keep you posted as more information arises.

    Correction: *assess

      hahaha, oops! Fixed.

      Thanks. ;)

Wow, that was quick! It's funny, I always read assess as asses anyway so this was like a mind-trick to see if I was reading correctly.

I updated mine the minute the update was live. It didn't brick it, but it was so laggy I couldn't type on it. I got sick of it and did a factory reset. Still laggier than stock 3.1. I ended up rooting and flashing a custom ROM with TouchWiz. TouchWiz is AMAZING, but stock KMB OTA was laggy. The custom ROM is perfectly fast!

Any idea how to unroot the tab after tw ota?

      • Haloruler64

But it isn't rooted after the OTA.... I personally rooted mine to flash custom ROMs. I'm really not sure how to unroot, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089 for info on the Tab.

        • Cameron Summerson

Not sure what you mean but "isn't rooted after the OTA," because I installed the OTA and retained root/CWM.

        • Haloruler64

Cameron, I meant OTA doesn't root it, since the person above seems to be saying that OTA roots it. I may be perceiving his message very wrong. But yes, Samsung was generous enough to let the OTA keep root!

        • Droidrev71

Not saying the ota rooted my tab.. I rooted after update and wanted to unroot.

        • Haloruler64

          it's in the link I provided :-)

        • Droidrev71

Not trying to be rude I have been to that page a long time ago. I was not able to unroot using those instructions. That's why I asked here.

"laggy" you must have done something wrong. while I don't like the ugly changes to the UI, touch wiz has made my 10.1 nearly twice as fast.

      • Haloruler64

There isn't much you can do wrong :P I just applied the update. Something definitely did go wrong though, everyone said it made their Tabs faster. Which is why I flashed a custom ROM, fresh start. Super fast

Hehe little slip-ups like that make my day!

So any update on the Verizon Tab 10.1 getting the UX update?

  • nerdshowandtell

Updated 2 galaxy tab 10.1's here, one was the white best buy version with an already unlocked bootloader, the other was the retail version from amazon. Both updated without an issue, and they run better than the stock 3.1 that came with it. Bugs are fixed with the Samsung Keyboard docks, and everything seems to be running smooth. I do have to say once downloaded and rebooted/installing the sandard gray retail version one took about 3 hrs to update... However the bbuy version was done in minutes.. Not sure if the update has to do with what you have installed or what, but i reset the retail version to factory defaults after the update just to be safe and see what the default install looks like now.. Loving these tablets, and the TouchWiz update..

good day. so far, my tab is running fine. i updated ota a day after it was released and i have had no problems whatsoever, so far. does this mean that i will not encounter this problem?

    • Haloruler64

Yep, to me it seems like it only happens right after the update, during first boot. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Perelmanco

Updated right away, but now the (gMail-link) Contacts function doesn't work at all and some of my notes on Calendar listings are truncated. Moreover, even after the update, the tablet shows Honeycomb 3.1 . . . not 3.2! Samsung Support says they are working on it, but have no date for getting the rest of the update to bring my unit to 2.2

  • Jeff

Worked fine for me, but when will I get an update for my 4G LTE?

  • Fox

Looks like the TouchWiz UX update is available again - anybody tried it yet?

  • Tracy

I just downloaded and on reboot got a horizontally (streaked) pixilated screen. Then.... nada. Same thing after several reboots. Finally, tried a reboot while pushing volume button, and simply got a "download protocol V2" and the last command says "waiting for USB cable." The PC is boxed up for a cross country move and all we have is a iMac.... Getting ready to travel and will miss my tablet if I have to return it to get it fixed.
