A little less than a week ago, Artem shared his thoughts on the keyboard dock for the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Since this was before the official TouchWiz UX (our review) came out, I figured it deserved another go, as the update fixed several issues.

I'm only going to take on the things that were software related issues this go around, as other aspects (like design) have already been covered. However, I would like to say that, despite its likeness to Apple products, I really like the overall design and feel of this keyboard. It's clean, sleek, and looks great with the white version of the Tab 10.1.

With that out of the way, let's have a look at the things that TouchWiz UX didn't fix.

  • Switches the software keyboard to stock - yep, this still happens. Every time you undock the Tab, you'll find that they software keyboard is back to stock. A minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.
  • On-Screen keyboard still pops up when I physically tap the screen on an input area, otherwise I never see the software keyboard. Still, there needs to be a way to turn it off completely as sometimes you can't avoid clicking into edit boxes and bringing it up.

Out of all the negative things experienced with this keyboard the first go around, those above are the only two that are still somewhat intact.

So, lets move on to the things that have been fixed:

  • CAPS LOCK works perfectly now.
  • Mouse - If you have the USB adapter, go ahead a plug a mouse in. It works like a champ now.
  • Del Key - Okay, this one is more of a half-fix. In GMail, you still can't delete emails by hitting the Del key, but you can in the Samsung Email app. So, as long as you're using Samsung's apps, you can Del till you're purple.  Hopefully, Gmail catches up at some point.
  • Audio Jack - Seems to work just fine now; no buzzing sound when the Tab isn't generating sounds.
  • As soon as I plugged my Tab into the keyboard dock, it worked perfectly. The issue where it is originally detected as a media dock seems to be a thing of the past.

As you can see, most of the annoyances with this keyboard have been fixed with the TouchWiz UX update. However, I have one gripe of my own: lack of spellcheck. This is a pretty big deal to a lot of people, especially people who may be using their Tab on a professional level.

All-in-all, though, I really like this keyboard and think it's a great accessory to have -- as long as you're running TouchWiz UX, that is.

Thanks for the update. I was wanting to get one but not with all the issues from your other review.

I have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Keyboard dock and I have had ZERO issues with it, before or after touch wiz.

Yup - Confirmed, Capslock light now works right, and that media dock issue may have been if the tablet wasn't inserted all the way on the dock.. Not 100% sure if it was a fix or just that, but I found re-inserting the tablet usually fixed the issue.. I find response of the UI with the keyboard much better then it was before. I'm looking at using tasker to resolve the keyboard switch when docking and switching back to swype when undocking..

They should let Logitech do the Keyboard for them as the expert

    Can anyone help me?
My Samsung Galaxy Tab is GREAT, the Keyboard is GREAT, but,
My @ ie on the " key, and my " is on the @ key.

    • Abhijit

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab and I faced the same issue; my @ ie on the " key, and my " is on the @ key.

Solution to this was changing the settings. By default it was English UK. Changed it to English US and it worked just fine.

  • Sandi

I had that happen on my laptop. Turned out I was using British keyboard.

  • Annette

Thanks - I needed to know that :-) driving me a little crazy on my Tab.

Does anyone know whether on Samsung Tablet 10.1 (non-WiFi) when placed into Dock how they touchscreen keyboard can be disabled yet? The might be an update coming, has it arrived?

  • steve

The review mentioned using a mouse. How does that work? Is there a cursor? Also, there's only one connection slot. So probably can't charge the device and use a mouse simultaneously?

What was the problem with the capslock?

I have the keyboard dock for p1000 and capslock indicator lights up and only capitalizes first word, after that, it goes back to low caps.

Do you know a fix to the problem i am experiencing?
