The official YouTube app just received an update that brings a few new features to the app, as well as the obligatory bug fixes and performance improvements:

  • Edit the title, description and privacy of your uploaded videos
  • New uploading UI integrated into the app
  • Create/Edit/Delete playlists on the go

The update is live in the device Market now, and should be hitting the Web Market shortly.

Great update IMO. Just updated today, I will certainly use the features described above. Nice article Cameron. I didn't know what the update actually did until just now.

  • Adam

The update ruined the app. I've never had a single problem with the app until now. It just buffers endlessly on my Evo 4G.

  • RockingmyEvo3D

Love this update it works well on my EVO 3D...

  • josemaexposito

This update ruined my you tube app too, after 20 seconds played, the sounds dissapears in Galaxy S, this happens in each video that I played.

  • Robert

It's seems a lot of galaxy s users have issues with the update, but it works fine on my desire.

  • prodygee

It still does not FRICKIN remember the scroll position after selecting a video. This is the biggest and most annoying feature there.

It doesn't remember it when you open a video from your subscribtions and press back. It neither does at the home screen of the YouTube app..

  • Vomiting Tenderloin Crackhead

DON'T UPDATE! Wont auto play your play lists anymore! Must go back and play each individual video! Terms agreement to protect royalties? Also, why no long press on each video? Could have reinforced Android advantages and provided infinite options. Delete button too easy to press. App seems written by bitter, iphone fanboy developer resentful that he has to work on android. Evo 4g.

The app is indeed broken now on Galaxy S. Long buffering, audio dropping out, I would expect better from Google, but I guess everyone can make mistakes.

Works fine on the Desire HD

Does this fix that damn 1GB uploader limit? (That was really 100MB!?) I don't have any videos longer than 10 seconds that aren't 100MB <_<

  • robochrist

The update ruined my Youtube app too. I'm on a Galaxy S as well.

  • moe’

I have a galaxy S and the sound has disappeared also

  • SamDroidC

I have Samsung Droid Charge and after applying 2.2.14 update, the sound cuts out after 5 seconds, leaving just the video playing.

    • Keegan

Me too. Is there a fix yet?

  • Nizam Rahman

I'm on LG O2X on CM7 nightly. Never had problems before playing Youtube videos after the update, now, it only plays a few seconds of the video, buffers, while I'll still be able to move the slider, it won't go to that point of time. After a few tries, my phone freezes totally. The screen just turns black. I've tried this three times, in quick succession.

I have to agree with a previous comment. The update ruined the app. You Tube now runs terribly on my HTC Inspire 4G. I can't do anything. No downloading viewing I just get waited to death. Kind of defeats the purpose of You Tube doesn't it? Worst and most useless app ever. I get more use out of coin pirates

  • fins1771

Doesn't anyone read the review section before updating an app? it was 90% one star comments saying not to update. I didn't update, and my YouTube app still runs smooth.

  • Krystal

I failed to read the reviews before updating and then I too rendered my app useless (no sound, etc)... not only that, but until I uninstalled it all together, it was causing my phone to randomly reboot itself when I was in the middle of phone calls and drained my battery! Wtf?
    Galaxy S

  • DCH

Update ruined YouTube on my Incredible. Kept getting the message that the app. was no longer connected, so I uninstalled the update, and it reverted to the very oldest version. I tried to install the new version, but now it won't replace the existing old version or even update that version. This is why I'm always wary of updates, and they shouldn't send them until they are 100% safe to install!

  • DCH

And one more thing...why the heck would the newer version of the app (which is presumably designed to be better) no longer run playlists? It's ridiculous to have to play each video individually! Not happy here at all.

  • Montelcogshell

This update never plays a video on my motorola xprt. I read the comments at the pkay store and is seem like many others with my phone are having th.e same problem
