Ah, the Droid Bionic. We've kicked back and watched this outrageously anticipated device go on one heck of a rollercoaster ride over the past six months or so, and yesterday we finally got word that the LTE beast would be hitting the street sometime in September. This new information brought on a slew of mixed feelings from our readers: some happy, some enraged, and some just downright disappointed.

With superphones like the Samsung Galaxy S II and the next Nexus phone coming out before the end of year, would you put your money on the table for this phone, or is Motorola late to the game again? Hit the poll below, and feel free to drop a line in the comments to let us know why you feelthe way you do.

Will you buy the Motorola Droid Bionic, or wait for something better?

yay first, that never happens... I want a cookie!

last month I woulda killed for the Bionic~ but with all the newer phones coming I'm going to wait and see now~ my original droid will be fine until then, it was my first Motorola . So disappointed with all the hype and no physical phone. It's kind of boring now ~ I don't even type the Bionic release date in search anymore ~ I did it for months~ Oh well, life goes on ~~

by the time the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes to the US the S3 will probably be available in Asia.

I would never consider holding out for a Nexus on VZW. They haven't had one, and honestly, I don't expect it any time in the near future.

With Ice Cream Sandwich expected on a 4th quarter schedule, I would bet on not seeing one introduced for VZW until CES, and then, the cycle begins all over again.

I am already stuck now with my work phone having to give up the wait and select from the Thunderbolt or the Charge... but my personal phone will be the Bionic... I am not going to chase the elusive "coming next" since there is always something "coming soon"

By the time VZW has an Ice Cream Sandwich phone, I will be well into my contract and on the way to getting ready for the next device. I fully expect to hear whining for at least 6 months of "why is this phone coming with Gingerbread when Ice Cream Sandwich is "already out" (despite it not being on more than one phone for some time).

Waiting to see what comes and if a nexus comes to verizon like is being said it will.

    • JayMonster

Where have you seen it being said that the Nexus would be coming to VZW? I know I have seen arguments that since it is rumored to be LTE, that the rumor that it is going to at&t is not likely... but history is not on the side of the Nexus device on VZW.

It has been almost 4 years since McAdams announced that VZW was going to be a "more open" network, and more recently in fact seems to not have only been slow to move in that direction, they actually seem to be going further away from it.

So if you are waiting for a totally open device to hit VZW... I wish you luck.

      • Milton Swingline

Agreed. VZW loooooves their bloatware. The probability that they would allow an unadulterated Nexus phone on their network is quite slim. Even current devices that once had great potential (Fascinate) were crippled & sidelined by VZW updates.

Well I have to be honest I have been a motorola fan since the motorola startac way back in the day but the wait and hype have kind of burned me out. I'm not saying that I won't buy it but I'm a little miffed about it and by the time it comes out we probably will already have the choice of I-phone 5, GSII, possibly the next nexus!!!

How can a phone that only had an assumed release of August be delayed till September? Either way I will most likely wait for something else, as far as I'm concerned the ship has sailed on the bionic unless they announced some last minute surprise like a 720p 4.5 inch screen. Blah.

  • Zebov

Wait to be stuck with a locked phone and motoblur? Wouldn't buy a bionic if it were free and $20/month off my contract.

    • JayMonster

So, then the delay didn't really matter to you at all.

  • John

I have been anxiously awaiting the Bionic's release, but now I have lost interest. I don't want to deal with a phone that has had this many issues. Moto dropped the ball here. If they got this phone right earlier they could have enjoyed being the only dual core LTE phone on VZW for a while. I was planning on using my early upgrade on this phone but with this announcement I will be close to my full upgrade so I'll look at the GS2 or maybe HTC will drop a dual core 4G. Plus with Moto's history I highly doubt the Bionic will have an unlocked bootloader. I'm going to laugh when it drops with 512 RAM after saying that they listened to people and made upgrades.

Been w Motorola since the first DROID i was considering the bionic but to much drama now i holding out for the galaxy $2

    • JayMonster

What "drama"? It sucked, they knew it... didn't release it (to me a smart move), redesigned it and it is coming out in September.

Everything else is nothing but speculation and conjecture... it is not like Motorola moved back the release date again... it was just incorrect guesses.

      • JackRussel

No, Moto said Summer release in Q2 which ends Aug 31, so if in fact they release on September 1st, they are liars by 1-day, but liars all the same.

Or you just admit that a September release is in fact the second OFFICIAL delay.

        • chris

No they said summer they never said q2 except at ces which that one got scrapped. So technically sept goes until sept 22.

  • Vinny

    HTC + GOOGLE = NEXUS 3 ?????

  • MicroNix

The poll speaks. Looks like Moto really blew it bad. The Bionic would have been stellar had it been released in May. But in the time Moto has been screwing around with this phone, the Galaxy S2 has become famous around the globe. Like the majority in this poll, I'll take a known great phone over one plagued by delays from a company that just can't seem to get it right.

Another poll would be everyone hedging if Motorola Mobility will still be around this time next year...

  • tim

I WAS waiting on the bionic but I have had enough with the push backs on dates. Going for Samsung now.

  • tim

I have been a moto fan since the brick phone moto 8000. But with the late release is irritating.
