Last month we had the chance to play around with LauncherPro developer Fredrico Carnales' latest app, UberMusic. I, personally, had a great amount of fun with it, as it evokes a certain "Zune" feel while remaining largely functional.

The app's left its open beta phase and is now available on the Android market for a price of $3.49; for a music player that pulls in album art and artist data, I'd say that isn't too bad of a price.

It also looks like there's been some UI changes to the Artist and Album sorting, as well. Albums show up with their art individually, and everything looks a whole lot cleaner. The screenshots on the marketplace actually show multiple configurations to the same screen, so there should be something here for everyone.

Numerous skins have already been made for the player, which are searchable using "Ubermusic skin" in the Android market. Here are two we liked:

As you can see, there is a bit of tweaking with fonts and the way things are laid out. Things still look crisp, smooth and stylish, but is that something that people are looking for in music players?

What do you say, guys?

Looks slick. Trying to decide if it's worth the 3.49 though. I'd like it to have access to my Google Music Beta library before I'd leave the Google Music app.

  • Sheena

It's a good looking music player. I always liked the look of my Zune HD's UI but functionality-wise this is still pretty "meh" for the asking price.

I'll stick to PowerAMP for now. Hopefully by summer's end, the dev would make his next big release for it. :)

No love for BigDX Uber music skins?

  • John J

When the Google Music API is out, if it's integrated into Uber, I'll switch.

Why do they leave out the ability to play/organize songs as folders? Thankfully MortPlayer and PlayerPro listen to their users...

  • skitchbeatz

maybe now he'll get back to working on LauncherPro...

    • p51d007

Amen to that! I had to dump it for GoLauncher, due to the FC's and constant LAG from Launcher Pro

    • Duffin

Hear, hear! He claimed this whole time he was redesigning LaucherPro from the ground up for the past, like, year and a half, and was instead putting work into this? I had to go to ADW because LP kept draining my battery.

Hello, can anyone tell me if this app supports listing by the "album artist" tag? I'm an extreme OCD music collector and I have prim and proper tags for all of my music and nothing supports that for android. Also, I know this pulls album art, but I guarantee it won't find half the stuff I throw at it. Will it pull the album art locally by the name of "folder.jpeg"?

Thanks, I'm really considering buying this if these features are available.

I used the betas, I think I used folder.jpeg and it worked for album art. Artist art is pulled from Last.fm

I love this app, but i wish he would work on launcherpro! ADW is kicking it's ass now

  • ?

I tried out the beta and I don't think this is for me, especially not for his asking price.

  • Drayon

I would love to use this app, but I love google music more.
I hope google releases the API in the near future.

  • Fred

If it's supported as poorly as Launcher Pro has been, it's not worth it, even for free.

    • AdamW

Agreed. I've been waiting a very long time for this mythical vaporware Launcher Pro rewrite that he told everyone about last year. Since then, LP+ has only received a couple of updates, and it's still laggy (and sometimes buggy), and LP's competitors have long since surpassed it in many areas. So yes, if this app ends up with the same level of attention and support as LP, I'll pass.
      Fede, are you listening?

      • [deXter]

I thought LPP was the best launcher in the market, if not, what are you and others using? I tried ADW Launcher but I miss LPP's Twitter and Facebook widgets. That might not seem like a big deal, but if you can point me to a twitter/facebook widget that is transparent or semi-transparent (glass) and can display more than one tweet at a time and is scrollable, I'd gladly use some other launcher

        • Duffin

Try out Colorize. It's what I switched to after LP stopped getting updates. Or, if you use Go Launcher, they have a bunch of new widgets that are much like Launcher Pro's.

  • kevin

Dev has a bad track recording when it comes to updating his apps

  • ClassickWorld

This app does let you play songs by folder. If you are looking for twitter, facebook, & messaging widgets like Launcher Pro has, then I suggest you search "colorized widgets" in the market.

    • [deXter]

Thanks, but unable to install Colorize Widget. Says, "Installation error, Package file is invalid." I'm on gingerbread 2.3.4..

      • Duffin

That's weird. I've got 2.3.4 and they work just fine on my Nexus S.

  • Dan

My biggest problem is with this and some other players, no sort by Album Artist. If you sort by Album it lists the same albumn 15 times also by each artist and if you sort by artist the artist is listed seperatley for each collaboration done ie xxx feat. yyy xxx feat. zzz all I want is a way to either sort by xxx or by the whole album!

  • vernon

love it so far...cool.smooth and no probles so far

  • stateit

Does this release scan tracks on external sd card storage?

I keep all my tracks on external SD which the Beta couldn't scan

I really liked the alpha which did scan tracks from external SD.
