Wow, what a week it has been! Our 3rd giant giveaway, featuring the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, has blown the lids off all other promotions we've done in the past, with over 6,000 entries via Twitter, Facebook, and Google+. Google+ users really kicked this up a notch this time around, as the new network absolutely exploded in its first week of existence, already driving more traffic to the site than Twitter and Facebook combined.

Amusingly, we've managed to push G+ to its limits a few times, finding out the maximum number of shares displayed (1000), the maximum number of comments per post (500), and, hilariously, topping the list of users who invited the most friends to the service on the first day of its life.

Of course, a lot of the hype is due to the fact that the Tab 10.1 is one of the best tablets on the market today (or the best if you ask me). Just like before, we tried to make the giveaway accessible to as many countries all over the world as we could, so thank you to everyone who took the time to enter.

Before I jump to the part you're all here for, I'd like to mention that we have at least 5 more giant giveaways already lined up, two of them with a prize that hasn't even hit the market yet. Stay tuned to Android Police so that you don't miss the giveaway announcements and follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and RSS.

And now - the winner!

Unfortunately, since there is only 1 grand prize and over 6,000 of you, the chance of winning one is... well 1/~6000. Today, the person listed below, selected at random from the whole pool, can say that Lady Luck was on his side, as he's getting ready to unwrap a brand new Tab 10.1.

imageDarren Richards, a Training Officer from Bolton, UK who entered using Google+ on July 10th  - you are now the owner of a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Honeycomb tablet. Congratulations!

We will be contacting Darren shortly, and as for the rest of you, if you didn't win, don't lose hope - as I mentioned, at least 5 more devices are already lined up, waiting their turn to possibly land in your hands.

Update 7/31/11: Here's Darren with his new tablet:

I'd like to thank NVIDIA for sponsoring the contest and all of you for playing!

Congrats to the winner. I enter these contests so often since I can't afford to just purchase one to help with my classes. It's nice that there are sites willing to help people out in these times.

  • giselamj

how lucky! but congratulations to the winner! I would be bouncing and jumping!!

  • phildough

Just like I said. First time it was Facebook, second time was Twitter, this time had to be Google+ . Which left too many of us out of the running since G+ is still a limited access beta testing experiment not open to the general public. Thanks for nothing AP.

  • http://fc1032.blogspot.com Brian

Congrats! == I never win these... EVER.

But I guess we were correct in guessing this times winner would be from G+!

  • J-Man

Could I give some critique on the competition?

The winner (with congrats from me though) is a bit questionable in the sense that the people without access to Google+ had 1/3 less chance of being picked, as it is still an invitation-only service.

With an imbalance such as that, not all participants are on an equal standing (excluding the ones who CHOSE to merely use 1 or 2 ways to enter) with the ones lacking access to all modes of entering.

So next time could you guys revise the inclusion of a method that only a part of the community have access to, merely in the name of fairness?

  • GraveUypo

Congrats to the winner. Enjoy your prize!
You're lucky they ruled Brazil out of this contest because if they didn't it would be me winning this :(

  • James

    Congrats Darrin!
